So I just now had an opportunity to watch this, and it was amazing. It really, really makes you think about how much soul there once was at the company. It makes me wish even more that the studio will one day realize how stupid they've been and return it to its former glory. The bonus features were some of the best parts, the sections on the goodbye partys and buying back their desks really put things into perspective. I think the energy most of these people expirienced together comes through in just a few mintues of the footage on this dvd.

Does anyone know where I can watch this movie? I know there's a DVD available, but it's too expensive for me to buy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cool, I've never seen it before. I'll finally get some use out of the Documentary Channel. Setting my DVR now.

It's been airing on Ovation Channel very frequently recently, that's where I first saw it.

My DVR is built right into my receiver. There is no SD slot or USB port or anything (probably on purpose), so I can't. Sorry :(

GREAT DOC :thumb:

It hits all the right notes, addressing the issues that arrived with success but unfortunately, the whole movie just glances over everything (it could've been 1:40 instead of just 40 minutes with everything it brings ups). It talks about the new animation building built after the success of The Lion King just being a way to advertise the animation process and keep the execs closer to the animation teams. Executives made up most of the animation studio and it's a miracle that something as original as Lilo and Stitch was ever made in this kind of environment. It also mentions the DTV sequels killing the Disney brand name and it ends with Disney killing traditional animation with the success of Ice Age.

In another thread, it was brought up about the Burbank studio films costing a great deal more than the other studios (in particularly the Florida studio) and that is discussed here. They say that after The Lion King, they moved to the new building where all the animators suddenly had lawyers and agents, causing the film budgets to steadily skyrocket out of control (just look at the film budgets after The Lion King, and don't even think of telling me inflation can cause that). They go on to talk about the animators receiving $60-80 thousand dollar bonus checks (keep in mind what money was worth in the 90's), and that is many people's annual income today (they got that as a bonus). Katzenberg being let go somehow lead to all this but it's barely touched upon.

Anyways, great documentary that has too fast a pacing and glances over to may interesting things. Another grip I had was not with the doc but with the presentation, because the Documentary Channel logo covered up the first names of the people being interviewed (so I only got the last names).

I watched it on my iphone a few weeks ago. Good documentary, but it gives the viewer a sinking feeling of depression by the end.
