Well as said the story is what will make or break the film.
Disney is def. putting more effort into their Sequels which is good, now if they can just get stories to match the higher quality they might stumble onto an unexplored opportunity.
I still have my reservations about making a sequel to a classic some 60 years after its release but after those shots I am at least willing to give it a chance.

I don't think that you can say that we are being 'easily won over.' I think that the screen caps show a movie that will have a nice look and animation that is well done. Those pictures are the only things we really have to base any opinion on at this time. I think that from the look of the art, its safe to say that this film will at least be worth renting. If the story sucks, fine, we don't have to buy it. But, I think we're all just trying to be open minded here and based on past efforts, this release appears to have a bit more care put into it.

As I've pointed out in another thread, the original author of Bambi (Felix Salten) wrote sequels to this story, so I don't think that making a sequel sounds too far-fetched. Of course, it looks as though it's not exactly a "real" sequel this time around, it looks to be more of an "inter-quel."
Anyway, has anyone here read the original book? I've been planning on it for years but still haven't gotten around to it. . . I'm wondering if this new film is based on a part of the book that may have been skipped over by the first film. That's just a totally blind guess on my part, though, since the only thing I really know about the book is that it's a lot different than the movie.
Well, yeah, the only thing we have so far to judge it on is that group of production stills, but I think it's more important in this case. Why? The original is one of Walt's films. We're treading on sacred ground here! The artwork is so much of what makes Bambi what it is.

Although I am not all pro too Bambi's sequal I can admitt when something looks good or intreasting. The screen caps look really nice it looks like Disney really is putting more effort forward into making their DTV sequals better quality. Althought the plot sort of reminds me of the new Tarzan sequal that will be coming out this year so I am iffy about that. (Could it be that diseny found a new formual to go off of and keep making the same movie from it???)

It can look as good as you want but if there is no story to support it... it'll just fall onto itself.

The character animation is quite stunning. The backgrounds, though, don't look to be nearly as detailed as Bambi's (one of the few aspects of the film that I remember liking). It could just be that these are action scenes that we're seeing and so we caught frames in motion, but it looks like there is a sort of blurred, stylized look to the backgrounds that can work in some places, but wouldn't be quite so fitting with Bambi.
The story does sound like it has some promise, perhaps more than the original (again, I haven't really seen it in any sort of proper presentation, but have never been a fan). I'll at least rent this. I, too, am glad that there's no 2 or II in the title, as that tends to cheapen it to a certain redundancy when it comes to more serious films. Let's hope the DVD comes with some quality extras.

I didn't even know it was a book. I'd really like to know if this story comes from the original book- that would give it more credibility with those who despise Disney-conjured sequels.

At least the animation will be nice, as far as the story... i just hope it doesn't have anything to do with a step-mother anxiety thing. That's so.... not Bambi-like. I am a huge fan of the originaly film and if this dvd isn't good i'll most likely cry, lol. but honestly when i heard that they were making a sequel i was pretty upset, and it's good to know that the animation will be good at least!

I suggest you to read it, it´s very different than the movie but you gonna like it
By the way, Felix Salten indeed done a sequel "Bambi´s sons" but it have a few sales and was like "vanished" from al human knowledge.
From the scenes than can be seen, maybe we can see a meeting between Bambi and others fawns(which actually where older than Bambi on the book, and I mean Prince Ronno and Prince Karus)than didn´t appeared on the movie--well,kind of, because Ronno is the one who figths whit Bambi--like the Faline´s younger brother Gobo.
Anyway, if someone wants to read the book on spanish, I can give you the page

Oh! Gobo! That was tragic! I remember reading something from Walt about how he decided to omit Gobo...As if the mother's death scene wasn't enough he thought to leave that poor soul in the movie too!
