Wow this really is great news. Just when I used to say there are no shows I'd ever buy on DVD- suddenly they're ALL getting released.

YEAH!!! Eisner is good for something. Someone is finally releasing the long waited muppets on DVD. Can't wait!

Maybe this wasn't Eisner's idea at all! Maybe that's why actual FANS at Disney are handling the integrity of this release... Maybe not, but what do you think? I wonder what the guy's going to do after he parts with his big position... I bet people like him never truly consider what happens after so many people disassociate with him.

Is the first season any good? That is to say, does it contain the characters we know and love, or was it before they evolved into what we now know? I may hold off for the second season for this reason, but I am very excited that they are starting the process at least. Now if we could just get the movies re-released in wide-screen.

Hi,
As I go on to the TV Shows on DVD website daily, I uncover lots of info and I think that I have some great news for mega Muppets fans!
As the new ABC movie aired tonight, in America, Disney officially released word on the already rumoured Muppets Wizard Of Oz movie and to the delight of many people, the also rumoured Muppet Show Season 1. They released bonus features on the ABC movie, but not the Muppet Show 1st Season.
On the TV Shows on DVD website they posted the news, as did the no.1 website for Disney, Ultimate Disney. A fan on the first website mentioned wrote to Disney asking for news on the Season and the insiders responded, telling of bonus features, episodes and technical specifications(Hooray!)
TV Shows on DVD posted the info, and I'm passing on the info, so that Luke can officially release the info, on this site.
Here's the link to the TV Shows on DVD site -
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=3435
and here's the link to the fan's site (his name is Greg)-

For people wanting it fast, and not wishing to be kept in suspense here's the list and info-
The Muppet Show Season 1 Features
Disney insiders have responded to my questions regarding the upcoming "The Muppet Show - Season One Special Edition" DVD box set. They now have a tentative list of features and specifications regarding the release. This is not a full details and complete list of features; but gives you a good idea of some of the major features to expect on the first set's release. Disney also states that they plan on releasing the other four seasons of the show on equally great sets, but no further information on their disc features or release is publicly available at this time.
I'm still looking into uncovering more details; such as inclusion of the season 1 opening/closings, which pilot episode(s) to expect, what a "Muppet Morsel" really is, what is meant by "...and much more", if there will be subtitles, when will season 2 be coming, and anything else I can. I'll keep you posted as more things surface.

I already posted much of that below.
Interesting, there were actually two pilots, wonder which one is being released here. They might be saving the other for a future season.

Has all this information been posted before?

Am I a broken record?

Nope, you added the bonus features. Thats good. And now that I read it the pitch reel may be the first pilot. The second pilot Sex and Violence may be what is referred to as the pilot.

It's about time somebody decided to release The Muppets on dvd sets, instead of having to buy each disc individually. And not all of the Muppet Show episodes were available on dvd. I will definetly buy all the disc sets. My boyfriend and I both grew up watching the Muppet Show. We are big fans!

its an interesting concept. Maybe S2 will have miss Piggy, and S3 have Gonzo or someone. I like the idea.

I'm really into the idea as well!

Kind of weird though!
And I'm also wondering if they'll call it 'Disney's The Muppets' or 'Disney presents Jim Henson's The Muppets', as I've stated before. And can someone please tell me what Muppets Tonight and Muppets Babies are about, whether they are live-action or animation and whether they are as good or better than The Muppet Show?

Muppets Babies were animated and was them as babies like in the parts of The Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppet family Christmas.
Muppets Tonight was live-action and basically an updated version of the Muppet show.

Well, now it makes sense and looks a lot better!
They use Kermit's chest for the front and the other characters on the discs!
Oddly though, I think it looks nice.
