That's right ! Just as all the French DVDs !2099net wrote:And I can quickly confirm for anyone thinking of getting the French sets, they do feature fully English supplements.
Apart from the 2 disc AtlantisJordan wrote:That's right ! Just as all the French DVDs !2099net wrote:And I can quickly confirm for anyone thinking of getting the French sets, they do feature fully English supplements.
Well, here's the complete list of features from the laserdisc. From the BBC classified specs I remember you posting, there doesn't seem to be much missing, but you can be the judge of that:2099net wrote:* Runtime wise, the second disc seems a little short, but unlike the Alice In Wonderland DVD, I'm not as disappointed as there doesn't seem to be anything missing from the LD (that I know of, I'm sure I will be told differently). I wouldn't be surprised if the US release has a few extra segments. Perhaps some information on the real Pocahontas and John Smith, or a Disneypedia segment on Native Americans?
aaaah stop driving me crazy!!ichabod wrote:I have just finished watching the Lilo and Stitch special edition, and I am quite frankly knackered! What a disc. With the extras on disc 2 coming to a running time of well over 3 hours it was fantastic! I thought Atlantis and Aladdin was the zenith of fantastic Disney dvds, but wow! This blows them both out of the water! You're in for a treat when you get it!
I quite liked that because it seemed more "real". When somebody is being interviewed it all seems a bit retrospective adn kind of "here's what we did" whereas this way you actually got to see the filmmakers decisions as the film film was being made. You got to see their reactions as they were happening, and you got to see the actual footage of visting Maurice Noble's house, the actual conversation, not just hearing about it about it from someone sat in a chair, 2 years later. That is why I found this documentary so fresh and fantastic.2099net wrote:I also found the film to be a lot more "amaturish" than the Atlantis film. It's often taken by simple camcorders, just by other people in the various meetings etc. I don't think anybody was specifically assigned to document the making of the film.
I'm sure I will2099net wrote:Lilo and Stitch is more like the Atlantis CE, in that extensive film has been taken as the film was being made.
However, while the Atlantis CE seems to have more input from peripheral filmmakers, Lilo and Stitch's is mainly focused on Chris Sanders and Dean DeBois. I also found the film to be a lot more "amaturish" than the Atlantis film. It's often taken by simple camcorders, just by other people in the various meetings etc. I don't think anybody was specifically assigned to document the making of the film. So it does have a rather haphazard look and feel, and in my opinion, doesn't flow together as well as the Atlantis documentary (which is still the apex of Disney special editions in my estimation).
That said, there is a lot of good stuff in the documentary, and it is after all the information that we are interested in, not the presentation. I'm very disappointed that there aren't any still gallaries apart from the "Pitch Book" created to initially sell the story/film.
There are however wonderful conversations with animators (sort of presented as footnotes/sidesteps from the main documentary) as well as an interesting piece on watercolour painting and a conversation with Maurice Noble (best known for his stylised Looney Tunes backgrounds). I know you will love this DVD PatrickvD.
It was actually the Australian one in the end!2099net wrote:Just as a side-note Ichabod, do you think you'll be tempted to import French DVDs again in the future?
