The ratings issue is indeed interesting... BUT, I encourage of all of you to see both of these movies, Brother Bear and Home on the Range. They only way they are going to continue making traditional, hand drawn, 2D animated films is if they make money. No profit, no more of those movies. So, even if the trailers for one or the other don't overly appeal to you, I implore you for the sake of the art form to not only see these films in the theater but to encourage others to do so as well. Family members, friends, people you know from school, church, or work... invite them with you!

I only hope that HOTR be in the TENG way. The Emperor's New Groove is one of my Disney favorites, and Home of the Range promises to be as fun as TENG.

I hear you Chernobog... TENG just wasn't a big box office hit because Disney sort of boycotted they're own movie... If they released it properly, surely it would be a big hit just as "Tarzan" and "Lilo & Stitch". But instead, they did rather promote the "102 Dalmatians" crap (at least I thought it was baaad).
I just hope they don't do the same thing to "HOTR" (and I think they will....).

I love that poster! Great characters, looks like it going to have a lot of personality and fun!

More like the stylished way of making Disney cartoons in the 50´s according to me. Look to PIGS IS PIGS for an example!

Although I do agree that the goat looks pretty damn cool.

I do like the style of the animation though. I think both Chernobog and Luke could be right - it is a stylised animation, that could be either placed in the 50s or 70s. Let's just say the 60s then

Can't wait for this one...

I remind's me of a cross between "101 Dalmatians" and "The Emperor's New Groove" animation wise, which I like a lot.

I think those pigs look cool.

Full Review of Home on the Range: "2-D Animation Is Not Dead!"
JimHillMedia.com scored another exclusing, presenting the first truly in-depth look at Disney Feature Animation's April 2004 release. 'JC' caught a screening of the movie at ShowEast in Orlando and writes that "I really thought we were going to see a 'work in progress' film, somewhat akin to Beauty and the Beast special edition with a combination of pencil sketches rough drafts and completed animation. Boy was I wrong! This was a complete movie! Within the first two minutes of the film I knew we were in for a special treat! I won't go in to great detail about the story line but I can tell you this is going to be a great Disney classic. The animation reminded me of early 1950 Disney work and my son remarked the animals looked like they came right out of Mary Poppins! The musical score and songs from Alan Menken are topnotch. The blended computer and traditional animation were seamless. Both my children said it was one of the funniest movies they had ever seen and I have to agree with them in the context of recent Disney animated pictures. This is definitely the funniest since Aladdin. The movie received a huge round of applause at the finish with more than half of the audience waiting to leave until the final credits were through. maybe with that kind of response, disney will push up the release date. i mean, it's already finished, why wait? this and hidalgo are waiting to be released and it's like, "why, disney, why are you holding back such potentially amazing material?"......it's going to wear down its newness and then no one will want to go see it......they'll be sick and tired of hearing about it. please give it to us sooner.

Of course I am going to go and see them, as at least one of them looks very cool (and it doesn't involve Bears).

However, depsite that JillHill article, I was under the impression Disney had already sold off much of their 2D equipment and shipped the rest ot Australia for the Television division?

If that is the case, no matter how well these two do, 2D is dead.

I really hope that this is wrong, but I think it may sadly be the case...

No Loomis, I think you're right.
I seem to recall reading and/or hearing that, too.

You never know...maybe it was sold on contingency and can be "recalled"?

I don't think that they sold all of their animation tools. There's got to be some pencils laying around there somewhere, along with a few desks and things.

Perhaps our efforts in saving Disney 2D won't work, but I'd rather give it my best effort now than sit around doing nothing, then complaining about the lack of traditional animation in the future. If Brother Bear and Home on the Range pull in a lot of money, it may change their minds.

HOTR promises to be something cool and fun. The style has reiminiscences of the 50's (UPA and more) and the story seems to be good, bizarre and with insane sense of humor. I like it!!

Personally from what I've seen, which is just thew poster in the above thread way up there, I HATE the style of this film, I think it looks soooo bad, but I still look forward to the movie and desprately hope the story is a vast improvement over the animation style... just my opinion though...
