That doesn't mean anything... Every company has it's ups and downs and this COULD be one of Pixar's downs...

Anyway, the trailer is funny, but the big cars with big eyes and a big mouth remind me of the cars in "Bob the Builder" and that isn't a good thing...

They did remind me of something but I just couldn't tell, unfortunately you are right.

By the looks of it this movie could be rated below-G, super kiddie. Guess they want to balance out the ncredibles or something.

The trailer reeks of "Bob the Builder" and Thomas the train engine or whetever his name is...This is the first time I've ever had to say this about Pixar but unfortunatly this trailer made me very disinterested in seeing the film at all..... I hope that the next trailer is much better....

I'm feeling the same way. I can't see what this film is about at all. Is it a comedy about the two cars, or more about the racing?

The stereotypical "dad-gum" didn't do anything for me either.

Okay, well now. Ummm.... the whole design of the cars is so simple you really can do much animation with them that will blow you away, but I really thought the atmosphere animation around the cars was brilliant. Like the start with the bee, it reminded me of A Bug's Life's animation but like 100 times more complex and detailed.

This teaser itself didn't really get me at all excited. I know Monsters Inc. teaser with them showing up in the wrong house was pretty funny, same with The Incredibles how he just couldn't put on his suit. Nemo's teaser was okay but not as funny as the other two movies, but the animation really blew me away. As for this one, I didn't really know what they were trying to project: this is a buddy comedy with Cars or some stupid racing thing. Actaully, the first time I saw it, I could barely make out what the Yankee Car was asying and I didn't at all get the bee joke or the "dag-nab" thing at teh end.

But, I do have faith in the project. When I first saw MI's trailer I thought it was gonna be okay but no Toy Story; but it turned out to bemuch more ejoyable then I presumed. I remember reading up about Finding Nemo on Pixar's site, before the teaser, and thought "Wow this is gonna suck", but it too turned out very good. Same with Incredibles; the more I learned about the movie and the more I saw of the film, I just got even more anticipated. Then again, just because Pixar's done perfect so far, doesn't mean their winning streak can't not stop.

Anyways, I think John Lasseter is the best director they have at Pixar and did the most balanced films between the kid and adult audience, all the while retaining the fun, and enjoyable plot.

To sum up, I have faith in Pixar and Lasseter; but I really don't find anything about the trailer that gets me hyped up about Cars.

I think it looks good and it'll probably be funny all through, I just think that every movie that they make will unfairly be compared to Finding Nemo and will therefore be seen as not being as good (by reviewers and such).

I also couldn't help but think about Chevron. I wonder if they are paying advertising for it.

Well, The Incredibles has the difficult task of living up to the remarkable track record of six critical smashes, including the latest and perhaps most favorably reviewed Finding Nemo. And it has received little but praise.

Pixar seems as safe a bet with critics as anything, probably because they put so much of an emphasis on story, and have the benefit of a several years long production period with which to fine-tune and make everything Pixar-perfect.

Disneykid wrote:Interesting trailer. This movie looks different from other Pixar films, but not as different as, say, The Incredibles (this seems like a buddy comedy again which will probably annoy certain members of these boards, but not me). Pixar's teaser trailers have never really done much for me, so I can't judge the film until a full trailer's released.
Pixar films can b enjoyable but they've been kinda boring me as of late. I think it's because that they are getting too much credit and praise for being so formulaic. I feel like the only one who notices this but it seems kinda too easy to know what to expect from a Pixar film: a certain theme (toys, bugs, fishes) with close-to-no human appearances mixed with buddy humor against a cute atmosphere with a children's style story. (at least they put focus onto story)

But now that other studios are copying off the formula, I'm getting real sick and tired of it. No more CGI buddy comedies, please!!!!

Anyway, that is why The Incredibles seems like a very appealing movie because this is the first time that Pixar has broken out of its formulaic style of films, featuring humans for the first time.

Cars seems like it's going back to the plain Pixar formula: all cars and no humans, same humor that we've seen from past Pixar films. It would be nice to see Pixar break out of its shell once in a while. They seem insecure.

Well, the problem with the teaser trailer is that it doesn't suggest a story. And well, the tow-truck (dad-gum) is just frigging annoying. I saw it over the weekend with the Incredibles and wasn't too impressed. I would've been much more impressed if the teaser would've suggested a specific story and defined one or two characters, as did early Incredibles trailers. But OK, I have this question. The trailer is set up so that Dad-Gum the Tow Truck and the red car watch a "trailer" for a movie called Cars. Are Dad-Gum and the red car actually in the movie itself? Or are they simply invented for this trailer? I think I'd have more hope for the film is it was a strictly racing movie.

I do recall the teasers for Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc teaser trailers to have been in the exact same fashion. Though I think it's kinda normal to not know the story until the premiere of an actual trailer

The red car is Lightning McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson. From what Ive read, it sounds like he is the protagonist of the film.

i am sooo not looking foward to cars...

I have to say that the teaser wasn't as good as the teasers for "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles," but it is still just a teaser and gives away no plot point and only lets you meet two characters. Now, I don't think it sounds all that spectacular, but that bug joke on the previews made me laugh and I have a LOT of faith in Pixar to deliver a great movie. I think that even if this ends up as their worst film, it will still probably be pretty darn good.

This discussion is identical to the one that went on in another thread when the teaser was first released. I know that was a while back, but we may as well continue the discussion in the original thread: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=6106

goofystitch pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly. <i>Cars</i> wasn't a particularly scintillating teaser and without that Pixar name and look, I might not be very interested. But I wasn't really blown away by <i>Finding Nemo</i>'s teaser and that turned out to be a great film.

Pixar has yet to make anything that's not great, thus far, and with the movie's release 17 months away, there's still plenty of time to retool it and make it great if it's not already. John Lasseter surely knows a good film when he sees one, as do other creative people at Pixar and if they're all involved overseeing this one's production, they're going to be able to once again fine-tune it with the lengthy collaborative process a computer animated film enjoys.

Well after seeing a Cinemascope-high resolution version of the promo still, my interest in Cars went up a notch or two. You could see all the work that went into detail like rust stains and chrome and glossy race car paint job reflections. They even had jokes inside the painted ads and stickers on the vehicles. They pay attention to such detail in a promo teaser, I'm sure the movie will have a lot to offer.

I saw the trailer that played before The Incredibles started as well and I also wasn't impressed. I'm not really into Nascar or racing or... cars, in general, let alone talking cars that race.

I'm going to watch it in theatres though because it is a Pixar film and Pixar hasn't let me down yet (although this may be the one that does). If this were a CGI movie about animated cars from any other company, I would probably not watch it in theatres unless it got rave reviews.
