I totally agree, Disney RULES!!! :) :D

Disneykid wrote:Well, I've said it many times before and I'll say it again: I'd love to see Disney tackle The Wizard of Oz. I absolutely love the MGM musical, of course, but I'd like to see an Oz film that's darker and more like what L. Frank Baum wrote. Return to Oz was like that, and I'd like to see their interpretation of the original story. If they're afraid of comparisons with the musical, they can emphasize in their ad campaign how this is Baum's true vision of Oz as it's never been done before.

As for real fairy tales (as in short stories), I can't think of anything. They've already tackled the best ones (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and now Rapunzel and The Snow Queen). The only one I can think of that'd be good is The Frog Prince. That story hasn't been done to death on film, which gives Disney lots of freedom to interpret and adapt it the way they want to.
I'd like to see Disney do an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, but I think they'd have to change the name, as even the word "Oz" title would make people nit-pick the film and comparing it to the MGM version. Perhaps a title like Dorothy or City of Emeralds would be best.

As for the actual fairy tales, I think thatThe Snow Queen and Rapunzel would make good films, as they're strong ones, especially the former. I'd love to see them do The Frog Prince, but they'd have to come up with a longer and stronger storyline (which I've came up with in my Disneyfied screen plot), as there is no real villain, supporting characters and the thing is really short, being essentially the story of a Princess dropping a ball in a pond, a frog rescuing it and recieving a kiss as a thank you present and through this becoming a prince.

There are other fairy tales they could do, as well. There's Puss in Boots (which I've also come up with a Disneyfied plot as well!), The Ugly Duckling, The Princess and the Pea and The Nutcracker. Some of them would be good but in a world where PC reigns, something would have to be done to get them on the silver screen (Bluebeard, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Hansel and Grettel and Rumplestiltskin).

Some I hope they wouldn't dare touch. Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man and The Big Turnip are really lame stories which nobody would take seriously.

True, but you gotta admit they're still much darker than the (excellent) MGM musical. I mean, the movie leaves off such ferocious beasts as the Kalidahs and Hammerheads, and the book is a bit more violent than the film. Even darkness aside, the book is just plain out twisted compared to the movie.
:) I guess. The books also have a lot of killing that is passed off quite easily. There's also some disturbing elements as well: the Hungry Tiger's constant craving for fat babies, and the fact that Princess Ozma was raised as a boy, then changed back into a girl.

Rip van Winkle
There once was plans for a Mickey and Minnie Hansel and Gretel, but it was never made. They show pictures in that Disney book about projects they never completed. Which brings up a good point. Why not complete these unfinished projects? Roy Disney tried it with the Salvador Dali~Disney short and from what I've read, it had done very well. The Brizzi brothers (I remember seeing in the credits that they were heads of something in Hunchback) brought back Don Quixote (More approiately Don Quijote de la Mancha) into development but they left Disney for their own company. I think Don Quixote would be great! It is like a fairytale in that Don Quixote imagines his life as a fairytale (okay more like Knight's tale). It was also a broadway musical (Man of La Mancha) so with a little DIsney music and magic, it could make a great film.

Rip Van Winkle is also a wonderful choice! It is good ol' American folklore that American children and maybe most Americans (their minds rich in European fairytales) aren't very familiar with. Since it is a short story, it may be difficult to make it longer and add quirky sidekicks comic relief and music.

How about the Elves and the Shoemaker? It's a cute story with cute characters and has potential for a nice sweet DIsney musical, but again the plot is pretty basic and difficult to lengthen.

If they can't find a fairytale there are plenty of children's storybooks that offer great stories like "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" (funny tale!) and "Stone Soup" (I think this was also a folktale).

I COMPLETLEY agree and I hope that Disney soons see things they way we are. I am not a donwer but the CGI already seems and feels like a let down. I liek the idea of fairy tales in 2-D.

Wow thats a great idea I cant believe Disney didnt finsh that project it sounds great and I mean it so fesible. Do you know why the movie wasnt finshed ?

I'm not exactly sure. I think the book was called "The Disney that Never Was." Our local library has it. I borrowed it before when I was younger, but I just looked at the pictures so I don't know. One reason I can think of may be because of Mickey and the Beanstalk. The Hansel and Gretel Mickey and Minnie (just remembered a more closer adaptation of the story was made into a Mouse Works Silly Symphony with Mickey and Minnie :) . It's featured in Mickey's House of Villain's.) had elements where they were in a giant garden so they probably switched gears and made it into a MIckey-Donald-Goofy Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation. Though I'm really not sure. ANyone have this book and know why? :)

Your idea for a Disney movie!

Have you ever come up with an idea for a Disney movie? Was it an original idea? Or a modified fairy tale? Perhaps a Disneyfied novel adaptation? If so, leave a brief outline (and title) on here!

And hopefully this post won't get locked like all my posts seem to...

The Rabbit Family

David Rabbit and his girlfriend, Julia live in Manchester, England. David is a 20 year old Law student who looks after his 10 year old sister Amy who has been orphaned thanks to her parents' death in a car crash. Amy gets bullied at school and has no friends, so when David finds some purple rabbits on his doorstep one rainy evening in October, he makes sure that they become Amy's best mates (which they do). But these rabbits have a dark secret; they are part of faded celebrity fashion designer Verity Lynch's evil plan to get out of bankruptancy, which involves selling these rare creatures to a creepy maffia leader named Raspulkin for a large amount for dark causes...

Disney should do a live action adaptation of Box of Delights - the BBC have already done a Radio and TV version.

It really is a wonderful story.

The Box Of Delights
On his way home from school for the Christmas holidays, Kay Harker meets a mysterious Punch and Judy man on the train. The man gives Kay the magic Box of Delights. The box takes Kay into he past, into the days of King Arthur and even beyond that, to the ancestral city of Troy.

But wicked Abner Brown is also after the Box and he persues Kay through time to try and steal the box away from him. Kay must protect the Box of Delights at all costs - but is he any match for Abner Brown?

Even before Pocahontas I held firm to the belief that a Disney film on the expedition of Lewis and Clark would make a fantastic film. It would definitely press the boundaries of 2-D animation and the possibilities are endless with where they could go (storywise) and what animal "friends" they could make along the way.

I've always been hoping for a traditionally animated film that takes a story from African culture. It would be the perfect opportunity to work with a more artistic style and introduce some variety to the snowy "Princess" line. But seriously, I do wish that there would be a movie to showcase a strong african female, maybe set back in time. It would be nice if it didn't have to have talking animals. In addition, the movie would be appealing because it would be a story that most people haven't heard...I don't know that much traditional African stories.

I'm currently developing a 100-minute version "The Tortoise and the Hare". And also got a top-secret project and I'm also thinking of a live action film called "The Medieval Craftsman" an action/adventure/comedy film for the whole family.

What tales do you think would make a great Disney movie?

This may have been done before, but forgive this newbie...

I keep wondering what tale will be the next GREAT Disney movie?

Not the ones in production- I'm talking about stories Disney should try to make into a movie.

We have snowwhite, cinderella, peter pan, robin hood the jungle book, mermaid, beaty and the beast, hamlet, and some others that made really good disney films.

and some stories that made bad ones.
So... What do you think is the next good disney-remade tale?

Personally, I am at a loss.
More Grimm's, Anderson, and Arabian Nights fairy tales?
Historical legends?
shakesphere?
are there any modern fairy tales - eg like harry potter?

More myths! I haven't seen Hercules yet, but I really like what I've seen from the art style. As a lot of the character models are already constructed, there is a whole world of characters waiting to be explored.
And what about more of King Arthur's world? These movies don't necessarily have to be features, but they would make great dtv sequels with plots that wouldn't necessarily mirror the stories from the original!
Yeah, I've said it before.

Great topic! What about a movie based on the book, the Mouse and the Motorcycle? Maybe that's too close to Stuart Little

I think Roald Dahl's 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' would be a great one.
A whole field of animals like foxes/badgers/weasels and three really evil farmers.
A great plot about the three farmers trying to kill the fox family and they start to outsmart them.

I quite enjoyed the made-for-TV movie(s?) that were done in the '80s. It is similar ground to Stuart Little, but I think it does have the solid base for a future adaptation.

Other ideas...

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" could work out maybe as an animated film. "Moves Make the Man" as a live action movie, perhaps.

For the most part, I think Disney manages to come up with better ideas and stronger leads to good films.

I'd love to see Disney tackle The Wizard of Oz, though I'm afraid the inevitable comparisons will be made to the MGM film whether Disney makes their adaptation similar to that one or more like the book. In terms of actual fairy tales, The Frog Prince is one of the few that have yet to be touched by Disney, plus it has a simple enough story for them to make it their own like with all of their other fairy tale films.
