Hey, I'm not against cliffhanger endings. Some of my favorite movies have them. To me, if that spyglass subplot was supposed to be a cliffhanger, it was poorly done. The best kind of cliffhangers are the kind that are resolved just enough to allow the movie to stand on its own, but still leave the audience wanting to learn more. The spyglass mystery was far too slight - it left me, not really wanting to learn more, but rather just being puzzled and feeling like the movie seemed unfinished.
Besides, what if this is the only movie they make? The film performed moderately well at the box office, and will end up with around $120 million, but is that enough for them to make another? Will Jim Carrey even want to return?

Coming soon, a 2 Disc Collector's Edition of a film so stunning and original, it was Jim Carey's triumph of comedy and character...
Note my sarcasm.

This film had mindblowing art direction in my opinion. But then it always comes down to two groups of people: the ones that
like Jim Carrey and the ones that
don't.

Anyway, they DO know how to make great covers, even in USA... not like Disney USA...

I want to see it because it looks good but I don't think I'll end up buying it. It's nice to see a collection like that for the fans. Too bad the R1 version isn't as special and it's got crappier cover art.

Erm, that cover art is a R1 cover art; there's dual releases for collector and family.

Oh it is? You never said so.
Hmmm and I was also told that R1 wouldn't be getting something like this. Ah well, this is great for fans.

This is a great movie (and I'm not a Jim Carrey fan). But I mainly like it because I love the books it's based on.

I actually quite liked this movie and will be picking it up. The biggest flaw I find with it is that it glosses over a series a books which are rather slight to begin with, thus making the film itself slight. By the end of it all, you don't feel like a lot actually happened. Still, I'd say its parts (which are quite good) are greater than its whole. Here are the specs for both releases. Whatever's in bold is exclusive to the 2-Disc:
* Audio commentary by Director Brad Silberling
* Brad Silberling and the Real Lemony Snicket commentary
* Deleted Scenes
* Outtakes
* Building a Bad Actor
* Making the Baudelaire Children Miserable
* Interactive Olaf
* The World of the Film
* Costumes and Disguises
* Violet's Functional Designs
* Incredibly Deadly Vipers
* The Sad Score
* The Sound Design
* Special Effects Analysis
* Shadowy Stills Gallery
* A Woeful World Gallery
This sounds like one of the best DVD's Paramount's ever come out with. I wonder if trailers will be included. If not, it's not a big deal to me, for once, because my Stepford Wives and Sky Captain DVD's contain the film's trailer.

oh, wow!
it's 2-Disc! The more the better!

I haven't seen the movie...but I've heard my relatives say it was "Okay".

but still you know...I liked the trailer, but I'd rather spend the money on DVDs than buying the movie.
reviews tell me to buy or not buy the movie on DVD.
and it's 2-Disc! The more the better!

Can anyone give a quick review of the general feel of the movie. I just can't figure out what the this movie is supposed to be. Is it a comedy? Because it doesn't seem too funny. So is it a drama. No, that can't be it... So what is it?

It's a macabre sort of comedy. All these horrible things happen to the children, and the humor is in how it's all presented as well as their monotone reactions to it all. There is some drama in there, too, though, but I'd call it first and foremost a dark comedy.

I think its a movie I will pick up. Certainly not something I am looking to for tonnes of extras though.

I've been interested in seeing this. I do like Jim Carrey, but I'm not a *huge* fan of the silly slap-stick that he's best known for. I'll at least rent it.
The cover does look nice. . .
Am I the only one that's reminded of Christopher Lloyd when I see Jim Carrey with all that make-up on, though?
