I like all the features... I don't hate any of them, at least. But there are some I consider a bit weak. They are:
-The Aristocats
-Robin Hood
-Oliver & Company (although it's a charming film, it's mostly mediocre)

But even the weakests Disney films can entertain a fan like me. [/b]

But for my own list of unliked Disney classics. (Subtract points from classic status):

- Fantasia: as much as I want to like it, it think it can use some serious editing to reduce it to about half its size. (-2 points) The same can be said of:

- Make Mine Music (-3 points)
- Fun and Fancy Free (-2 points)
- Melody Time (-3 points)

- Cinderella is OK but is borderline, I don't think it is bad as much as I think that GusGus and Jacques are annoying. (-1 point)

- Alice is fine but since I am a fan of the book I have to say it misses the spirit of the book 100%. (-1 point)

- Aristocats seems like a bad version of 101 Dalmatians, why make it? (-2 points)
- Robin Hood (-3 points)
- The Black Cauldron, Gurgi is too annoying, among lots of other things.(-4 points)
- The Great Mouse Detective, the bat is too annoying. The fake Mouse plot is too repetitive (from other Don Bluth movies). (-1 point)

- Oliver & Company. I can't stand whatisface. And overall is just a bad version of Oliver Twist. (-4 points)

- Rescuers Down Under. Again, is OK but lacks the heart of the original. (-2 points)

- Beauty and the Beast. Good but with a stereotypical villain, why does it even need the villain at all? If Gaston was a good guy it would make the story more interesting. (-1/2 point)

- Aladdin. Good but Aladdin is kinda annoying. The monkey is obnoxious. Overall a fluff piece (-2 points).

- The Lion King. Good potential but lost due to hypocritical messaging (the whole "circle of life" thing). (-2 points)

- Hercules. Another fluff piece, and in a brave move shows the emptiness of mass merchandising, but since this is what Disney does best I find it incredibly hypocritical (-3 points).

- Tarzan. Good, but Terk character annoyingly voiced by Rosie O'Donell. I opt to see it in Spanish where character is dubbed by a different voice actor. Villain is also too stereotypical (see Beauty and the Beast comments) (-1/2 point).

- Fantasia 2000. See Fantasia (-3 points)

- The Emperor's New Groove. I actually liked it, but I wouldn't say it is a classic. Too light maybe? I haven't decided (-2 points).

- Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Liked it, but too many plot holes (-2 points)

I haven't seen Treasure Planet or Brother Bear, as of this date, so I cannot comment.

Looking back on my ratings, I guess the ones I really hate are Black Cauldron and Oliver & Co.

- 4 points: Hated it. Will not sit thru it.
- 3 points: Indifferent. I don't care one way or another. Will find it hard to sit thru.
- 2 points: Liked, but see many annoying flaws. Will sit thru it once.
- 1 point: Good, by with one annoying flaw. Enjoyable. Will watch it twice.
- 1/2 point: Good, but with one tiny flaw. Quite enjoyable. Will watch it more than twice.
+- 0 points: A Classic. Multiple viewing a must.

Of all the 42 classic's I do like them all but I find these ones kinda dull and/or disapointting.
* The Fox and the Hound
* Fantasia 2000
* The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh
* Atlantis: The Lost Empire (what is up with their hands?!)

Everything I find I can watch over and over again and not really get bored with them. I sometimes feel I may like them all too much.

I think it's safe to say that there will definitely be some disagreement with those dislikes.

I have to add The Great Mouse Detective, as said in the other post, Disney movies you haven't seen, It was so terrible, IMO, that I could never sit through the whole thing, and when I was on the bus, for a feild trip and it was playing, I put on some head phones, and tried to go to sleep just to avoid it!

Also, Oliver and Company. This was one I just went out and bought, several months ago, and saw for the first time. While it has some nice music, it is just not the best adaptation I ever saw. I much prefered the animals to the humans in the story, except for Jenny. I like her song.

Peter Pan, while I wouldn't say I hate this movie, like TGMD, I don't really like it. Like Oliver, I just don't think it is the best adaptation. To date, Hook, is my absolute favorite Peter Pan story. Not one of my favorite classics, but will own it, if/when platinum version comes out.

Black Cauldron was another miss for me, but I would be open to seeing it again, in the future, because sometimes it takes a second veiwing to like a movie.

I've actually gone to edit my post two or three times so it doesn't reflect something I don't mean to say. At this point, B&TB is "liked, but with a flaw".

If Gaston is a good guy then both Belle & the Beast need to be better written, if Belle actually likes Gaston and must chose the better man, then the Beast must work harder at becoming human if he is to be chosen. Being human is not simply controlling one's temper (which is what is most strongly emphazised in the movie).

If you take Gaston out of the picture, then the Beast comes off as a moody, abusive, violent, tantrum-throwing jerk. The Beast is only (barely) better when compared to Gaston.

As it is right now, the writers simply decided to make Gaston as hateful (or testosterone filled, or politically incorrect) as possible so that Belle has no option but to chose the Beast.

My reaction to Gaston simply is "Oh, great. Not another Disney villain..."

Thanks! It's hard to come up with something that will indicate a subjective opinion while not appearing wishy washy.

But when I put the movies on for the kids I can tell you what I will sit and pay attention to, or what I'll simply ignore and let drone on in the background.

And if I actually sit thru a movie more than a couple of times, the flaws I perceive will bother me more and more every time I watch the movie.

The flaws can be very small, like in Snow White when the door handle fixes itself all by itself; the lanterns that dissapear; or even the soap that Dopey swallows (although now that I have seen the eliminated scene I know what happens to the soap and it doesn't bother me anymore).

Or the flaws can be huge, like in Lion King, why does the King of Beasts not hunt and kill a zebra or a wildebest? No wonder he's such a wuss! Even Nala beats his butt!

Or in Lilo & Stitch, why does she think that it is an abomination that a fish eat another fish? That is just preachy, politically correct, nonsense!

My rating system esentially reflects my level of annoyance at these things. It doesn't reflect quality, since most films tend to be professionally well made and produced... Maybe badly written, but most all the other technical stuff will be accounted for.

Yes - it would be the classic Love Triangle - a staple of drama since Ancient Greece.

I understand what Herman is saying, but I don't agree it would result in a better film - not a better Disney film anyway. If you know what I mean.

I adore Hunchback more than I can say (I do - A Guy Like You included) but some of the changes I would like to see, while making it a better, more adult movie for me, would probably make it a weaker, family, Disney film.

I think that Disney was brave to make "The Emperor's New Groove"it is a new kind of humor that was more Luney Toones the Disney. A lot of people i know think it is a terrible disney movie (because it is not really Disney) But i enjoyed myself a lot. Kronk doing his own theme music But the most interesting about this movie that it was made in less then two years. Because the first story "Kingdom of the Sun"was finally thrown away, and they had to start over again.

Does any body knows where i can find the documentary "the sweat box" it was made by Sting's wife. For Kingdom of the Sun (the original title of The Empreor's New Groove". He wrote different songs. In the final movie they only used one (with the end credits). She mad a documentary while Disney was making "Kingdom of the Sun". It shows the hard side of making movies at Disney. Does anybody has seen this documentary??

I don't know that it would make it better either. Look at the more adult approaches in Pocahontas and Hunchback. But I wish Beauty and the Beast had tried to break out of the formula.

If you notice I did not list either Poke or Hunch as annoying, I give them credit and like what they tried to do, though obviously they are not perfect films nor did they do that great at the box office. I saw both at the theater and own both on DVD, so I supported both. I truly wish Lion King had also done something similarly adult. Compare the adult and responsible attitudes, the growth and the maturity shown in the characters in Bambi or in Old Yeller (both undeniable classics) to the hypocrisy, personal irresponsibility and reliance on the deus ex machina in Lion King.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire

I liked the story of Atlantis, the animation was a little too "comic-booky" for me.

Sorry to bump this thread but I didn't want to create a new one.

My choice is definitely Sleeping Beauty.

I'll tell you what I liked:
-the music
-Maleficent
-the scene with the 2 kings
-the 3 fairies making a mess of things in the cabin
-the last 20 minutes

Everything else was boring. Halfway thru my brother tapped out and said "This movie's for little girls!!" and promptly left the house. I endured the remainder of the movie until I became a "Sleeping Beauty". Yep, I fell asleep right after it was over. Mind you, it was 3 in the afternoon.

Perhaps that was the tagline of then. "Sleeping Beauty, snores galore!!"

I only dislike Treasure planet. It was horrible. But, I may be a pot calling a kettle balack because my fav. movie is the Black Cauldron.

P.S. Herman the German. you complain way to much. Get a life.

While I agree with you that it has some story prolems, you have to understand that SB is a work of art, to really apreciate it. I for one, think it's brilliant. Its a beautifully stylized film that, at the time, was very modern and yet very classical, and its my all time favourite

My least favourite has to be The Black Cauldron.. the whole package is bad.. bad voice cast, bad story and even bad animation. I do think the characters are interesting and the idea had some potential. Unfortunately it didnt work out... I wish Disney would fix it instead of screwing up their true classics with pathatic new songs...

I have a couple of Disney films I probably won't go out of my way to watch a second time (like Sword in the Stone and Pinocchio), but there's one movie I definitely do not want to watch for a second time, let alone get near or touch the DVD/tape with a 20-foot pole...

Mulan

Call me a biased b****, but I felt the non-human supporting cast (Mushu, Cri-Kee) was totally uncalled for. The singing parts really sucked, as well.

I can't stand these movies, but I got them collected anyways... I won't list anything made in the 40's since they are products of WWII and hardly can be considered classics.

Bad Animation, Bad Storyline, and to top it all off, an annoying sound track that makes you want to rip out all your hair.

2nd place
Oliver & Company
Forgetable story combined with unlikable good guys.

3rd place
The Rescuers Down Under
This movie seemed like an extremely long Green Peace commercial.

4th place
Treasure Planet
The intro, with the kid and story book, raised my hopes extremely high, the rest of the movie crushed it.

5th place
Hercules
This movie was so full of itself... it never realized how boring it was and how it never really got anywhere.

Ended up calling my sister wart for about 5 years after seeing this movie. My sister still can't watch this movie to this day. Can't say any other Disney Movie had that kind of impact on me and my family.

The only Disney movie that was really, really dark... the dead coming back to life ... creepy.

Lady and the Tramp

Most overratted animated movie to come out of the disney studios. I've never been so bored watching a movie. Only thing that was close to interesting was the siamese cat song. To this day I've not been able to watch the entire movie in one sitting (the 2 times i've tried to watch it).

Hercules Up! Meaning Hercules and all the other films that came after it, Mulan, The Emperor's New Groove...

Sorry, can't agree, The Black Cauldron had an awsome voice talent, I mean Eilonwy's voice is the best, The Horned King's frightning and deep, Creeper, great, it fits the character, and gurgi, Oh, Gurgi funny! Taran... Ok, a bit annoying...
