This is depressing news, indeed. He was one of the earliest people involved with Disney animation that was still with us. Just how many of the nine old men are left, anyway?

Just Ollie Johnston, and he's a nonagenarian.Disneykid wrote:Just how many of the nine old men are left, anyway?
Click here for the full articleI mean, just look at some of the highlights from Thomas' incredible career:
The Seven Dwarfs weeping over the fallen princess' body in 1937's "Snow White."
The little wooden boy capering at Stromboli's puppet theater in 1940's "Pinocchio"
Thumper teaching the young prince to ice skate in 1942's "Bambi."
The panicked school teacher trying to escape the Headless Horseman in 1949's "The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad."
The cold & scheming stepmother, Lady Tremaine, in 1950's "Cinderella."
The Queen of Heart's explosive appearance in 1951's "Alice in Wonderland."
Captain Hook's elegantly evil performance in 1953's "Peter Pan."
The dog's romantic dinner at Tony's in 1955's "Lady and the Tramp."
Flora, Fauna & Merriweather -- the fussy old fairies in 1959's "Sleeping Beauty."
Dick Van Dyke dancing with those penguins in 1964's "Mary Poppins."
Baloo struggling to tell Mowgli that he has to leave the forest in 1967's "The Jungle Book."
...and four great books (by Frank and Ollie).Maerj wrote:That's very sad, he was one of the greats that's for sure. At least they made the movie 'Frand and Olllie' so we all have something of him to remember in addition to all of the great animated films he worked on.
You may be right, but I never heard Ward Kimball was dead...Luke wrote:Just Ollie Johnston, and he's a nonagenarian.Disneykid wrote:Just how many of the nine old men are left, anyway?
Ward Kimball died in 2002, shortly after taping the stuff with David Swift on The Parent Trap DVD. Both passed within a year of taping that, I believe. They were so spirited in those bonus features.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:You may be right, but I never heard Ward Kimball was dead...
I got an e-mail from a friend of Frank and Ollie, who told me how much the messages mean to them and that Frankie and Ollie checked regularly. Now, Frank's widow and son, as well as Ollie are still checking it, and the messages of support really mean a lot.Paka wrote:That was a nice mention you posted on the front page today, Luke. Thanks for linking to A-N, by the way!
If I may ask, though - why now?
