i already have the little mermaid on dvd i can wait for the bonus stuff, i want cinderella!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they went into a whole lot of detail on that scene for that reason, but I may be mistaken. Some Animator pranksters have done some crazy stuff in the past.

I voted for Cinderella, as I want to get the actual DVD Debuts ASAP, so I can complete my animated classics DVD collection.

Although I know I keep barking on about how good the Cinderella laserdisc set and cant wait for all these goodies to make it too DVD. I hope its Bambi because I like the movie of that film more. Either Cinderella or Bambi is fine with me.

2099net, Even if it is Pinocchio I'll still be glad because they can only improve on the less than great Special Edition 1 Disc version being released everywhere outside the US lately.

So, will you guys in the UK have to import your march platinums from the US?

It looks that way. Of course I make a point of buying a R1 and R2 copy of all 2 disc sets so it doesn't really affect me. Others will have to make a decision though.

No upgrade to the "Platinum" (we don't call them Platinum [*]) releases has been announced for anywhere in the world apart from America as far as I know. Another reason I think it will be Peter Pan or Pinocchio - I can't see Disney wanting a "first time on DVD" movie to be released in America only, encouraging all sorts of imports for 6 months or more. And coincidently Pinocchio and Peter Pan have been released in at least one country in all continents apart from America, just like the soon to be released Sleeping Beauty. Coincidence? I think not.

This is just another reason I think the increased schedule hasn't been thought through - nobody knows the release plans for the rest of the world.

[*] Actually it's pretty pointless calling the American releases Platinum now that the Gold Releases have been stopped. Perhaps this is why Sleeping Beauty is still just a Special Edition - the title is slowly going to be phased out?

I really hope the next Platinum released is either Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians, or Jungle Book. I haven't seen Dalmatians or Jungle Book in years, and don't own the VHS, so I'd really like to see them. The Little Mermaid is one of my favourite movies, and our VHS copy is getting worn out.

I can see Prince Adam and myself are going to get on very well. Not only does he share my views on revisionist filmmaking, but he want's House of Mouse Season Sets on DVD too.

Just hurry up and buy your DVD player Adam, so the sets can get released soon!

i kinda like human again but hate the animation in it, even thought is ok i still rather watch the Theatrical Cut when i pop my dvd in

If its a movie like mermaid or bambi thats from the original platinum line up and it comes out in american in march and the UK doesn't get anything I will just buy it from the states. If its a two disc Peter Pan or Pinocchio I will buy that from R1 and decided what to do with my 1 disc R2 dvd at the time.

honestly, i think pinocchio will be the one to be released in the spring like 2099net mentioned about the whole R1 thing (by the way 2099net, what happened to your cool avatar? ). However, i picked Bambi just because it's lush art and stuff could allow for some serious design galleries. and the multi-plane camera work in it is breathtaking. i'll bet this is more likely for a 2005 spring release though to tie-in with the release of Bambi Great Prince that year.

I love the "Human Again" song, but the animation is too cartoony and some of the things the objects do during the song seem cheesy and out of place. Plus Belle and the Beast aren't animated quite the same, and Angela Lansbury sounds much older. They shouldn't have had her sing a song in between two that she already sang 10 years ago.

im glad im not the only one that noticed belle different, i dont think that plastic surgery does he any good. she kinda looks like latoya jackson

Now I realize this thread is almost a year old, and I'm sorry for bringing it back, but I just thought it seemed really interesting to look back at.

Sadly, yes, your right. Even those who sell their old dvds when a new edition comes will still have to hold on to the plain version, or have no version and keep anticipating until at least 2006!

Its all good you should defintley think of it this way the The Little Mermaid will be realsed in 2006 and will beyond perfect becasue of the years of work they have put into it and enjoy the Platiniums that come outnext year which I am sure will be great .

Again I am so so so very sorry.

We already know that Bambi will be the next Platinum after Aladdin

I really hope this could be at least a little correct.

Thinking about this, personally I would like Lady and the Tramp to get the special edition full of stuff treatment for several reasons.

Out of print here and abroad, (and of course they discontinued it before *I* could get it ) and it's one of the 2 oop dvds i don't have on Laserdisc neither.

It's BOTH a Cinemascope (2.35) movie and an Academy (1.375) movie so if only for preservation and historical reasons, a special edition should include optimum transfers of both and maybe information about the technical choices about photographing two versions simultaneously. It was Disney's first wide widescreen animated movie and the first one after Fantasia that was again shown in something other than monaural sound, so there probably should be some info or featurette about Disney's return to multichannel 4-track sound when the industry finally decided to implement something he had pioneered and invented 15 years earlier.

The old ntsc-land transfer was just letterboxed inside the 4:3, not enhanced, and the PAL-land one, from what i've read here was only pan & scan. And Cinemascope movies need all the resolution and enhancements they can get to be shown in their best light or they start to loose their "scope". Also as it was probably the first full length feature filmed in sequential RGB Technicolor in Scope (live action Cinemascope films were shot in inferior Eastmancolor) it should be getting the full Lowry digital 3-strip b/w Technicolor "Ultra-Resolution" treatment too.

Furthermore, when it finally gets the HD-DVD treatment in the next decade, since HDTV needs all the disc space you can give it, I don't think they would dedicate an exra HD-DVD disc to include the Academy version on it, so maybe the Platinum edition will be the last opportunity for this rare version.

Apart from that, as long as all the proposed Platinums gets released eventually in a timely manner (Disney seems to looove to change plans or reschedule releases just to bring up the stress level of fans ) I also want things like Bambi which in it's CAV Laserdisc looks muted and kind of pasty, Little Mermaid (as long as they don't alter it! I side with 2099net and others on this) (btw, House of Mouse on dvd would be nice too since I've never seen it ), 101, etc.

Mmm... maybe they should make Platinums quarterly. They can always fill the twice a year spot with the Treasures
