Like it or not, "padding" is one of those annoying forum habits that you wil run into no matter what the forum is. And there really isn't a solution for it unless you get rid of post counts altogether.
Things have been kinda crazier lately after settling down once Luke changed the locks on all the doors and failed to give a new key to our friend on Baker Street. I guess the best you can hope for in situations where you *think* padding is going on is that the novelty will wear off after awhile...and it usually does. I mean, in the grand scheme of things on this or any other forum, folks aren't judged by just their post counts. That old adage, quality over quantity certainly catches up with them after awhile.

Very well said, Indiana.
And as much as I hate for this thread to possibly die, I'm going to move it to Feedback where it sort of belonged all along. Hopefully it won't go ignored there.

Watch out Uncle Remus and CATNC i am going to blow right by you.
this is the first time i have saw this topic and this post. when reading JimmyJackJunior's post, I just had to laugh just seeing what he had to say. anyway i think that we really need to get rid of the post count since some people including me (yes Loomis, i'm badtalking myself) have been poisoned by the post count and have become jealous because of how other members have most posts than others. that is why there are so many posts with only one sentence in them. so the post count really needs to go.

I think the answer is self-control, not removing post counts. It might help the problem, at best, but wouldn't alleviate it. But then, if the problem only lies with a very select few, then the easiest solution seems to be to address the problem with those individuals and let them fix it, or leave. Realizing that one's post count won't mean anything to anyone else if it's obvious that it was achieved through absurd or meaningless posts could help as well. I mean, what's the point? Seriously?
Uncle Remus, since the Off-Topic debacle, I've seen
less frivolous posting from you, so
hopefully the problem has been fixed, or is being fixed. If it has, then that means there's no reason to keep bringing it up.
Oh, and we discussed this very idea
here, but I say put the dogs to sleep and then let them lie!

Then why don't you just make this thread a sticky? I guess you don't have to seeing how it's mentioned several times in the "Forum Posting Guidelines and Helpful Links." But I guess some folks just don't see that.
