I like Independence Day fine, but I sure LOVED your playing of that score! It was truly so beautiful! So, I guess that movie has a great score, I just never realized!
It is indeed a great score. It enhances virtually every scene in which it is used, and the orchestration is brilliant. For example, in the opening sequence (on the moon) one can percieve the string section, producing this eerie timbre punctuated my minor glissandi that is prefectly suited to the impending arrival of the aliens. When the actual alien ships show up, there is this marvellous bombast to the main alien theme. But it's not merely bombastic - it pretty much spells "doom" in musical format. (Heavy use of brass in this section.)
I think the
Independence Day score is very much in the classical vein, the likes of which is very rare in modern Hollywood fare, if not extinct. I wish I would encounter scores of this calibre more frequently.

Thanks for explaining some of why the score is so brilliant!

Glad you are on Instagram! And a very jolly, classical playing of that Tom & Jerry theme!

Thank you so much,
Duster.
I'm trying to launch myself online, so I created a proper musician Facebook page, a pro Insta profile, and also dedicated YouTube and TikTok accounts (though the last two are still devoid of content.)
Not sure how much attention I'll attract, as I'm not really social media-savvy, but I'm hoping for the best. (So far, my Facebook reel of the Tom and Jerry piece has reached over a 1000 views in less than 12 hours. Not sure how that stacks up.)
Also, I'm excited because beginning of April I will be participating in a music competition called the Malta Cross Music Competition, open to Maltese, Czech and Austrian contestants. It's right up my alley, because we need to prepare a classical piece, a film music selection, a traditional/folk music piece (depending on country of origin) as well as a rendition of a popular song.

Oooooh you are really building a name for yourself! I am unfortunately not social media-savvy either so I don't know how big that many views in that time frame is, but sounds good! I really hope you beat everybody in that competition. If not, that at least you come very close and have a lot of fun!

Hey guys! I know I'm not really a regular poster here anymore, but I have some exciting news to share.
In three weeks (9th December) I will be giving a full-length piano recital of film music, all arranged by yours truly. It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here. I will be performing in the concert hall of the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta. They have a beautiful Steinway Model B piano there.
Of course, I realise that sharing the news here may be a bit odd. After all, I can't exactly expect any of you to fly halfway around the world to attend. However, this site is very dear to me, and I couldn't not post about it here.
This will be my programme:
Over the Moon: A Piano Celebration of Film Music
All music arranged for piano by Julian Carter
Merry-Go-Round of Life – Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) – Joe Hisaishi
Raiders March – Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) – John Williams
Another Day of Sun / Mia and Sebastian’s Theme – La La Land (2016) – Justin Hurwitz
Independence Day: Suite – Independence Day (1996) – David Arnold
Overture – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) – Frank Churchill
Theme from Jurassic Park – Jurassic Park (1993) – John Williams
Theme from Wallace & Gromit – A Grand Day Out (1989) – Julian Nott
The Beautiful Briny / The Age of Not Believing / Substitutiary Locomotion – Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) – Richard & Robert Sherman
Overture – The Jungle Book (1967) – George Bruns
Tom and Jerry at MGM – Tom and Jerry Series (1940 - 1958) – Scott Bradley (based on an orchestral medley arranged by John Wilson)
Opening Theme – Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) – Joe Hisaishi
Fire Treasure – Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) – Yuji Ohno
Over the Moon / Flying Theme – E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) – John Williams

I'm particularly curious about these two! I loved your Bedknobs and Broomsticks medley

Hope you'll be sharing a recording so that we can hear you play them
Best wishes on your performance
