I thought you meant Iger at first. This is the first time I hear about Eisner as well. It is unclear what they are referring to; did he have a similar attitude against female employees as the others, or if he simply allowed it to happen and even helped covering it up.

JeanGreyForever wrote:The Batman will certainly help boost WB's numbers. If Fantastic Beasts was still being released this year that would have helped as well.
The Batman opens next year.
But WB does have Wonder Woman 1984, Scoob, In the Heights, Christopher Nolan's Tenet, Tom & Jerry, The Witches, The Conjuring 3 and a movie based on The Sopranos opening in 2020. Godzilla vs Kong and Dune are probably their biggest wild cards this year and so far, Birds of Prey has been underperforming. But I still think Warner Bros will have an overall strong year.

I'm also expecting HBO Max to win over Disney Plus in the streaming department.

Thanks for the link. I know people on here speculated that Iger was complicit for letting Lasseter's behavior go unchecked. I suppose the same could be true for Eisner.

Oh you're right, I didn't realize that. Well it sounds like they still have two major tentpole movies for 2022. Is Scoob some CGI animated or live-action version of Scooby-Doo?

Does this mean that Disney Plus could one day cease to exist?

One good thing about Chapek is that he used to be the head of the home video division and helped pave the way for Blu-ray.
So under his leadership, I'm hoping to see a lot of DVD/Blu-ray releases of a lot of stuff we've been requesting in the very near future.

No, I don't think so. I just think there's going to be a competition in streaming, but I think Warner will have the lead because it is more appealing to adults, their TV shows are more well known (HBO alone can bring a lot of subscribers). However I still think that some families will prefer the more family friendly Disney Plus.

Given that Iger will remain with until the end of next year, “it is not clear why the company felt the urgency to undertake the transition immediately,” he added. The company did not immediately name a successor to Chapek at Parks, Experiences, and Products, “which also seems to imply that the timing of the transition wasn’t planned,” the analyst said.

It all happened so fast and suddenly that it feels like a bomb is about to go off in the nearest future. Of course, the reason doesn't have to be dramatic at all, but with very little info about the decision, there will be speculations.

Scoob is a CG animated movie.
You can watch the trailer here. This is also meant to be the start of a planned Hanna-Barbera movie universe akin to the old tv specials and cross-overs they used to make.

This is my impression as well. Something's about to drop and Disney wanted to get in front of it by saying Iger's no longer in charge.

Perhaps it has to do with the Coronavirus that some users in here were taking glee in because it meant Disney wouldn't be able to profit off their films in China, because you know, that's the main thing to take from this, not the thousands of lives being lost.

Thank you! I've seen that trailer before in the cinemas but I clearly forgot about it.

I still can’t quite wrap my head around the abruptness of Iger stepping down. At first it smelled like scandal, or maybe a personal health crisis, but I’d have expected some reports or a shoe to have dropped by now.
But the coronavirus could definitely be the culprit— Disney has closed all of its Asian parks, Shanghai Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Tokyo Disney Sea. That’s got to be a massive revenue loss for them— not to mention expected depressed box office returns for the studio division. Then if this hits the states... if Disney has to shut down the American parks.... well, I think that would be almost entirely unprecedented here but who knows how bad this could get...
Maybe Iger saw the writing on the wall and decided 2019 ought to be his legacy. Becoming CEO at this time might feel like a monkey’s paw moment for Chapek.
Speaking of Chapek, I have one other tenuous connection to him: I was cross trained at the Boardwalk for housekeeping base (basically the person you call to get extra towels or whatever) and one night the duty manager came in freaked out with a suit of Chapek’s clothes. He was staying at the Boardwalk and in town for some big expo or whatever and his suit needed ironing. She did it herself and she was so freaked out and nervous about not damaging his very expensive clothes, bless her heart!

This is quite random. It could potentially be a medical or Family issue but I'd expect that to be made clear.
I wonder if allegations against Iger are about to emerge. Shame on him if that's the case and shame on him if he's been worrying about his business legacy while the coronavirus has been killing People.
We'll know what's behind this with time...

Y'all talking about "allegations"... do you realize Disney would just take him out of the company if that was the case instead of keep Chapek basically answering to him, right? Just because it was announced at some point, it doesn't make it sudden. Given they had a press release, investor's call and both of them were perfectly media trained to talk about it in public, it most likely was being prepared for quite a while.

John Lasseter stayed on as a "consultant" for a year after the sexual harassment stories broke about him. Not saying that's what will happen here. I mean, whether something's coming out or not, we already know Iger isn't a great leader because he helped cover up everything with Lasseter over the years and then there was, I'm assuming, his role in the wage-fixing scandal as well. All I wanted to say is that him still being given loose control isn't a clear indicator to go by.

^ I saved it to my Pocket app. A few quotes:
“It was a huge surprise to everyone, even to his (Iger’s) direct reports,” one former executive told TheWrap, noting that other internal candidates for the job appeared to have been left out of the loop.
Other higher ups, Rice + Mayer, were blindsided.
One investor, who declined to be identified, complained to TheWrap that it was “kind of strange” that Chapek was identified “quite some time ago” but that no replacement for Chapek in his former job was in place. “Despite Bob Chapek’s former domain, Disney’s Parks & Resorts division, being responsible for approximately 40% of the Walt Disney Company’s revenue, no successor has been named,” the investor said. “There are some serious tells here as to the haste with which this decision was made.”
Ironically, one insider said the timing was likely done to quell any speculation about succession, noting that the board of directors wanted to get this done before Thursday’s shareholders meeting and to end the ongoing gossip and rivalry inside the company over the subject.
Others said that this was merely Iger realizing that he wanted to spend his time on the more interesting parts of the job — the creative side — and leave the number-grinding work to Chapek.

Thank you for posting that, Amy! Any mention of the Coronavirus playing a part in their decision? My hunch is with the park side of the business taking such a hit, it would have been a bad look for the guy in charge of that part of the company to have been named CEO (who presumably has long been marked for for the position), so they tried to get as far ahead of the crisis as they could by naming Chapek the CEO before the states felt the crunch.
