That’s why I’m fairly certain this ISNT a Tangled remake but a different adaptation of the original fairy tale. I don’t think they would ever remake these newer movies so quickly.
I don't see it that way. Tangled and Frozen are basically The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King of this era. Disney absolutely refused to alter those films very much in the live-action remakes ven though they could have done a non-musical, more European version of Beauty and the Beast or a more tragic version of The Little Mermaid with less calypso music.
They knew those are their big titles which audiences have certain expectations for and major changes would NOT be well-received. The same goes with Tangled and especially Frozen. Tangled will probably get alterations like Beauty and the Beast did, to fix up plotholes and stuff, but they aren't going to make it a more traditional take on the original fairy tale which wouldn't be as commercially accessible, for the exact same reason we didn't end up getting Glen Keane's original Rapunzel in the first place. The only thing they might be more confident in now is the title.
And there's no way in hell they'll miss a chance on a live-action Elsa singing Let it Go in favor of the original Snow Queen.

These live action remakes are really starting to become the nail in the coffin that is Disney Animation. I mean, what's the point in making animated movies anymore if they are going to completely re-do them in live action within 5 to 10 years?! I find it a HUGE insult to the countless artists that are working in animation. Disney should focus it's resources and energy into creating original content instead of rehashing their own catalogue which diminishes it's own artistic value in the process...
A truly horrendous development of a company that used to be at the forefront of creative, artistic and technologically advanced storytelling!

If the cheapquels and TV series couldn't kill the studio, nothing can.

I understand people's objections to Disney remaking their animated catalog but it's really not an insult to the original filmmakers and artists. If anything, it's a compliment. It means they did such a good job and the movies they made became so beloved that it created a brand-new, highly-profitable market for Disney to exploit. No one goes to see these remakes besides people who love the originals. How is that an insult? Yes, remake directors and producers will often claim they're modernizing, correcting, or improving aspects of the originals in order to justify the practice in the press, but that doesn't make it true. And it's not like they can publicly admit their movies are just cash-grabs. Other studios are constantly remaking their popular titles too; Disney's most popular movies just happen to be animated.

The only way I see this ending up being Tangled-related is if they pull a reverse Maleficent on us and make it the “true story” of what really happened but from Rapunzel’s perspective instead of Eugene’s. And really go all out on the classic fairy tale romance. I know Disney is all about doing it easy but I feel like this fairy tale always deserved something... more.

I have no hope about it since their live action films turn out to be mostly crap.

I actually think this will be closer in quality than the remakes usually are with the original films because Tangled isn't as great as B&tB, TLM, TLK, Mulan, TJB, etc., imo. It might even be better for me, overall. I don't expect them to borrow much from Tangled if they didn't for Mulan; definitely no soundtrack. Maybe they'll give us a nuanced witch character who actually feels some amount of love towards Rapunzel this time.
Then again, there's Alice in Wonderland, which still manages to be a hundred times worse than the original film, which has always been a little boring to me. And Cinderella made everything as bland as possible even when it had the lack of all the mice scenes on its side versus the original. I don't consider Maleficent a re-make, since it's an offshoot about a particular character, similar to what they're doing with Tinker Bell.

I say this regardless of remakes. IMO Disney hasn't released a good live action film since 2013. Specifically this IMO is going to be a dumbed down version of Tangled with no songs.

I liked Into the Woods for the most part even if the second act was a bit rushed and Rapunzel really should have died. But I agree, that out of original live-action films, I can't really think of a good one in the past few years. Saving Mr. Banks was definitely the highlight of the decade and it's a shame that it skimped out on the bonus features.
Those PL Travers recordings during the production of Mary Poppins would have been amazing supplementary material to feature not to mention Travers' plans for a Mary Poppins film sequel, Mary Poppins Comes Back. Also it would have been neat to get some sort of featurette on what Disneyland what have been like when PL Travers visited it.

They are available on the Legacy Collection of Mary Poppins.

Which is great and all but I wish they had been included on a Blu-Ray release for either the original film or especially Saving Mr. Banks. The same goes for a lot of song demos for the animated films that never made it onto DVD or Blu-Ray, particularly the bulk of Ashman's work for Aladdin.

I saw a Facebook post about "Who We Think Should Be Cast In Upcoming Live Action Rapunzel" and it just made me double take and feel so confused. Came to this forum and at last I see the light. And now that I see it, I facepalm.
Disney's Divinity wrote:A shame they would never consider a re-make of TP&TF outside of Disney+. :/
That's literally my thought too! But they'd probably do a CGI Winnie the Pooh before gracing PATF with... Anything really.

We already did get a CGI Winnie the Pooh. For both TV and the big screen.

Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are hinting at a live-action remake of Tangled.

I'd love a stage show. A re-make wouldn't be bad, but I wonder if it would carry over the music...

So, it seems the rumors were true. I don't trust The DisInsider too much, so I wasn't sure if it was real at first. However, I suspected it could be because there aren't many more big classics left to remake, and they already broke their promise of not remaking anything released after the year 2000 when they announced the live-action
Lilo & Stitch. I'm not too thrilled by the idea, but the good thing is that it seems Menken and Slater will be involved with it, which means that it will probably have new songs.

A stage show would be great, but unfortunately, I think a remake is more likely. Though, who knows, maybe they do both.

I’m curious to see what’s up with this project if Menken and Slater are both this excited and posting about it. Something has got to be different about it, especially because we’ve never seen Menken get excited over a remake before.

You're right, if he's excited about a possible remake, they must be planning to include the music. The one good thing is the Tangled directors won't have any involvement in the re-make and he make actually get to do the music justice this time.

I wonder if this means we may be getting some of the scrapped music they’d written they loved. I can’t remember the name of the big song, I just recall it was a song Gothel and Rapunzel both sang but it meant different things when the other sang it.

Well, he seems to have changed his attitude toward the remakes a bit after
Aladdin. At least that's the impression I got from watching the latest interviews with him. He also looks excited about
The Little Mermaid.

Oh, it would be great if we got to hear some of those unused songs! I think the one you're talking about was called "You Are My Forever". Here's some info about it:
Originally, Menken and Slater wrote a song called "You Are My Forever", which was to be sung to Rapunzel first by Mother Gothel in a motherly way, and then by Flynn in a romantic rendition. The song was eventually scrapped and replaced by two new songs, Gothel's "Mother Knows Best" and a duet between lovers Rapunzel and Flynn called "I See the Light".
