I always assumed that the original plan for 125,000 was revised late in the day for the new figures, and when the crunch came, Disney found out they couldn't manufacture the required number of tins in time.
If this is the case, then I am quite worried - these sets have been selling well on Amazon.Com for an additional six months! I do fear that even with the revised numbers, demand will still vastly outstrip supply.
Perhaps. We'll have to wait and see. My assumption is that the number 125,000 was just a "leftover" from the year before, something they inserted in place of the real numbers, before anything had really been decided.
If the original plan was to make 125,000 of each, that would mean that they have actually lowered the number of Tomorrowland tins. I find that hard to believe. If that was the case, they could easily have shipped Tomorrowland in December, and only left the others for later.
Also, the number 165,000 seems much too conservative for a bumped up production run of Mickey Mouse in Living Color vol. 2.

According to the review at this site of
On the Front Lines
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/onthefrontlines.html
there were 250,000 copies made of that tin. (165,000 originally planned)
According to another review
http://www.thedigitalreview.com/forum/s ... .php?t=758
the
Tomorrowland print run is 105,000. (Apparently no increase, unless the review is in error!)
Has anyone caught the revised numbers for the other two sets yet?

Ouch!
Donald Duck actually lowered from 250,000 to 165,000 !!!!!
Mickey Mouse in Living Color 2 only raised from 165,000 to 175,000 !!!!
Tomorrowland staying at a measly 105,000 as originally planned !!!!!
In fact, the only one significantly raised is On the Front Lines.
Looks to me like the whole business of delaying the boxes so that they could print more copies was a scam or cover-up operation... Question is, what were they trying to cover up?

Nothing. Roy's name is on the band, and Roy's interview is in ON THE FRONTLINES.
Obviously ON THE FRONTLINES got many more orders than anticipated.
Oh and Anders, coming from Europe, I would expect you to be more familiar with Disney DVD slips than most American visitors. Really, things can slip all the time without a conspiracy being required (especially in Europe, the UK in particular, sadly).

Ouch indeed!! I guess Disney thought Donald is less popular then Mickey in the United States. Why did "On the Front Lines" rise I guess due to the war in Iraq. It's good that Tomorrowland stay the same it won't be a sell out.

I could understand a little fluctuation between planned and actual # of copies....But Donald dropping that many really surprised me.

So to be sure of getting them all, what do people think would be the "correct" sequence to buy them in??

All at once.
Some stores are not reciving anymore stock then what they already has prebooked, so if you can get them then buy them quickly.

Can I just interject one little thing here?
Why the heck do they have to release all four tins on the same day? Why can't they do two now and two in the fall, for example? Or one a month? Why bombard us with all these pricey limited editions extravaganzas at once? I know a lot of people who won't be able to afford them all at once. And they are limited editions. They sell quickly especially the Mickey Mouse ones. They get hard to find in a very short while, then you have to pay $100 for them on ebay. I think the print runs are far too conservative, and that they could produce twice as many and keep some in backstock so that they'd be available for a couple years at least. I know people who would kill me for my Mickey Mouse in Color #1 tin. The demand is definitely there for a longer release period. Disney's losing out.

Hi,
As I've said elsewhere, most of the Treasures from Wave #1 and Wave #2 are available on Ebay, and for a lot less than $100 each...
maybe between $25 - $35 ... especially with the Buy It Now option that many sellers use....
I got the Wave 1 Treasures I was interested in off of Ebay myself, and was very pleased...in total, for MMLC, Davy Crockett, and Silly Symphonies I think I paid about $100 for the three, including Tins (factory sealed), not much more than Disneys RRP of around $30 each!
Also, I think that Disney especially want these treasures to be rarities and hard to find...aimed at serious Disny fans who would save up the money every year.
However, I do agree that for many it can't be easy, I have to save up for them too ...
Happy Shopping

I can't see any reasons why people can't save the money when they know it is coming.
These titles has been known for release for about 8 months, and putting $15 aside every month can not be to much to ask for.

Really they are not THAT expensive when you just look at the price of it by itself. The $23.09 price (23.09 x4 because I'm getting them all

) that I'm paying at Amazon doesn't seem to be breaking our bank, and we just bought our first house and there's a baby coming in about 2 months! Talk about a money crunch! In line at Best Buy I see so many people buying 4 or 5 DVD's at a time spending about $100 for them all. So I don't think Disney is doing anything wrong with their release strategy. Besides, most buyers of the treasures are collectors, and they know months in advance that they are coming, so they have time to save up their money and purchase all four.

I think the pre-order price tag - $23 and change - is great for the amount of material you get, compared to what you pay for some discs that have just a 2 hour movie. I saw one review on "Front Lines" where the reviewer said it took him 8 hours to see all there was to see on the set.

All right, I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes too hard by saying this, but I suspect a good number of the users of this forum are pretty much kids - which explains why some think it's a bit expensive to buy all four Treasures in one go. I can respect that.
Apart from that, I think this must be close to the best value-for-money ever from Disney.

If you look at some of the DVD collections from the "kids" on this board, I would think that they have an easier time getting ahold of a hundred bucks to buy these sets at once, that I do a 25 year old soon to be parent with a house payment, car payment, and all the other bills that there are.
