^ That's interesting, then, if I read that correctly: animated Lizzie is still middle school animated Lizzie? Like her conscience, ageless I guess.

I think I like this concept. Lizzie’s grown up, but she’s still a kid inside. This is one D+ projects I’m really looking forward to.

Mildly concerned that they will use this hiatus to massively retool the show to be more like “Raven’s Home” and “Girl Meets World” which would just... murder the enthusiasm I had for this reboot.

Same. Will have little to no interest then.

My guess is Minsky was taking it in a too family friendly direction. Duff even posted a family pillow fight screen cap at one point. I’m hoping they realized to satisfy fans, this is going to have to be able to capture the essence of the original but age it up.
There’s no way they’ll take it younger like those other shows. From everything I’ve read there’s no way Duff would let it go that route.

Hilary Duff
implied on Instagram that like
Love, Victor, her show
Lizzie McGuire wasn't deemed family-friendly enough for Disney+, presumably because of the openly gay character in the main cast who would have played her neighbor.

So does this mean it's cancelled?
Oh, and even though it goes without saying: Screw you, Disney. And here I thought they were afraid of controversy. Hopefully their homophobia blows up into more controversy for them.

It's currently on hiatus as it gets retooled.

I’m baffled for multiple reasons. The Mandalorian is clearly more adult oriented, yet is on Disney+. There are multiple gay characters on the High School Musical show and even some mild cursing.
The original announcement that Minsky left specifically stated they were continuing to make it. However I wonder if it’s been scrapped at this point? I’m wildly confused, and slightly upset they haven’t updated us.
On top of that, why does Disney think making the streaming service 100% family friendly is a viable option? That sounds so alienating to so much of the demographic, and I know many who are already getting bored with it because there’s nothing for adults on there.

UPDATE: Deadline confirms with sources at Disney+ it is NOT cancelled and is simply being redeveloped.

At this time, no new showrunner has been named, though meetings with potential replacements for Minsky are said to be ongoing. It is possible the show could still move forward if a new showrunner is able to balance the desires of both Duff and Disney, but that appears increasingly unlikely, sources with knowledge of the show indicate. A Disney spokesperson denied that the show is being scrapped in a statement.

Seems like they need to bring Minsky back and let her do her vision and just take a risk. I doubt it’ll happen though. It’s clear they’re banking on this as a big deal for Disney+ or else they’d have just moved it to Hulu with Minsky in place. And they’ll lose Duff if they don’t do it right. I’m really shocked they let it go so far as to filmed two whole episodes and then pause. The scripts were in written. They have to know the content.

On "Diary of a Future President", there are two recurring characters who are gay. One mentions her fear of coming out to her parents, while another brings up his husband in an episode. That show also has the young characters openly talking about menstruation and their periods.
Disney also had no problem having LGBT characters on "Good Luck Charlie" and "Andi Mack" and they even received praise for how they handled them.
So, with all that in mind, it's hard to know what Disney+ considers to be "family friendly."

When it comes to continuing Lizzie McGuire, it's never been easy. Different circumstances this time, but this could end like 2003 all over again
