How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World has been
named Best Animated Feature of 2019 by the National Board of Review. I'm surprised they picked it over Toy Story 4. They're both sequels, they both end the same way, and TS4 got better reviews.

I thought that maybe they wanted to reward the
How to Train Your Dragon franchise given that this is the final chapter of the trilogy, but I've checked
the list of previous winners and they already awarded the second movie in the series too, so I guess they just like this franchise.

And at least 9 of them are from Disney, right?

Yes, nine of them are Disney and two, Spider-Man and Terminator, have Disney ties. Terminator was co-produced by Disney and distributed by them overseas.

Thanks for confirming. Now that you mention it, I think I had heard that about
Terminator, but I forgot it.

It seems there's not a clear favorite yet. It's going to be interesting to see which films win at the next ceremonies.

When it comes to the nominees, they will most likely be four Hollywood films and one indie. The question is which of the indies will manage to get through. There are a lot of worthwhile ones this year. Of course, the fifth slot could still go to either Abominable or Spies in Disguise.
My prediction is:
Frozen II
How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World
Missing Link
Toy Story 4
I Lost My Body OR Weathering With You OR Klaus

Hope "Klaus" gets nomination.

I'm predicting Klaus to win at the Annies, as animators vote for those and I've noticed a lot of the animators I follow on Twitter have been really praising the film.
For the Oscar nominations, I think the five spots are between Toy Story 4, Klaus, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, I Lost My Body, Frozen 2, Missing Link and Weathering with You. There is the possibility of Spies in Disguise pulling a Ferdinand and getting in, despite a lack of Annies love. We'll get a better idea of the critical consensus when the review embargo drops on the 16th. Fox/Disney does seem really confident in the movie, if they're allowing reviews nine days before the film opens.

The Golden Globe
nominations are out. The Lion King got nominated!

Disney must have submitted it in the animation category because the Golden Globes don't have a visual effects category. The Lion King was also nominated for Best Original Song ("Spirit"). Frozen 2 was nominated for Best Original Song ("Into the Unknown") as well.
Best Motion Picture: Animated
Frozen 2
How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World
The Lion King
Missing Link
Toy Story 4

The Lion King "live action" remake is an animated movie and Disney won't convince me otherwise.
Of course I don't think it should have been selected for a Golden Globe nomination because animation aside the story is literally a repeat of the hand drawn film.

I agree, I didn't like it was nominated either. In my opinion the movie wasn't that bad, but it doesn't have much merit for the reason you mentioned.

Missing Link has won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Film!

This is Laika's first Golden Globe win and the first time a stop-motion animated film won in the category. I can't believe Toy Story 4 didn't win.

Not too shocking. Kubo beat Zootopia a couple years ago for the BAFTA award. Seems the awards have a soft spot for Laika

Yes, I remember that but the Golden Globes have been historically very pro-Pixar. They awarded Cars with the inaugural award in the category, for crying out loud. Toy Story 4 received better reviews than Missing Link, so this outcome was definitely unexpected. Perhaps this is an indication of sequel/remake fatigue. Missing Link was the only original among the nominees. I wonder if this upset will repeat at the Oscars.

The Hollywood Foreign Press which presents the Globes is different I believe from Academy voters. Also the Globes have already given awards to the Toy Story franchise "Best Musical/Comedy Film 1999 Toy Story 2 & Best Animated Feature 2010 Toy Story 3."
The Academy voters will pick either FII or TS4, since non have seen The Missing Link. And other than Toy Story 3, no animated sequel has won a major award.
