I don't mind the fact that Disney wanted to make an African American Princess, but Tiana's position in The Princess and the Frog is extremely contrived and shoehorned in, just for the sake of making her a Princess (when in fact the mere possibility of it is weird). If they should do an African American story, why having it be so radical and turning the girl into a frog?
The frog part is probably the worst part with the first black princess only being human for 19 minutes of the film. It doesn't help that a lot of audience goers preferred Charlotte over Tiana. I read that Disney at one point planned to also make Charlotte a princess on the franchise but realized the optics of the white sidekick overshadowing the black heroine.

I hope Disney doesn't go the route they've done with Moana and Elena where they just take every African culture and mix it all together so that every culture gets some form of representation and tribute.

You know they'll do exactly that. :P And they'll make up an African country or tribe too.

They typically do that for animation so I'm curious how they'll handle this situation in live-action.

It would've been a great contradiction, wouldn't it? Yet making Charlotte a Princess would've been a perfect fit, since she somewhat wanted to be a Princess.

She would be brilliant. She's extremely warm and likable, so she would've been a splendid choice.
I agree, but judging by the synopsis I think they probably want someone younger.

Disney's Divinity wrote:There is no possibility whatsoever that will happen. The line is already overloaded; they're not going to make it worse by adding live-action characters.
I agree. The DP line is already overcrowded and I'm against them mixing live-action characters with animated ones. It would be cool though if they created a new line with live-action female characters. They could include Elizabeth Swann, Mia Thermopolis, Clara, Sade, Rose Red, etc.

I'm in minority here, since I don't mind the line-up being overcrowded, especially since it's very rare for them to appear all together. Even in the group photos, there are usually only few of them. Personally, I like how the franchise saves some of the heroines from being completely ignored. Would they not be in it, you can bet some of them wouldn't get even dolls from Disney Store, like Esmeralda or Megara. So from this angle, I would even add some heroines to it. In contrast, I would hate it if in the future some less popular character missed on this just because 'there's too many of them'. As for live-action characters, I wouldn't mind them as long as they are drawn 2D on the products. Especially that in my point of view, Clara, and perhaps Sade when we will learn more information about her, is really the first live-action Disney character that suits the line-up (with Mia being set in modern times and rest of them being live-action reboots of animated movies).

I don't mind either. If it were up to me I'd include Esmeralda, Megara, Jane, and Kida and remove Merida 'cause she's Pixar (and perhaps even Anna and Elsa since they have their own brand).

If it won't come out until 2021 or later, they wouldn't have announced it, I suppose, like how they didn't mention Zootopia 2 (that's what the consensus on this forum was as to why Z2 wasn't announced).

It's a bit surprising though that we didn't hear anything on this film since there was a lot of hype for it and Disney really propped it up.

Am I the only one who sees this thread pop up every now and then and instantly think of the Marquis de Sade? Let’s see Disney make a movie out of that lol

Lol, and people thought The Hunchback of Notre Dame wasn't a suitable Disney film for family audiences. The closest we might see Sade in Disney would be if they ever adapted Dorian Gray and even that is a longshot.
