What the fruitcake?! How can you have a Star Wars movie without a title crawl?! That's like Christmas without a Christmas tree!

This was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was not disappointed at all. I wanted more backstory of the characters, though- there is a novel "Catalyst" with the background of this movie, so I'll have to check that out. And K-2SO? So funny.

So, back from the cinema...
+ Darker than Empire because none of the heroes get out alive. I thought Bodhi might make it given he was the pilot and in the ship, but sadly not. You could hear a collective sigh of sadness in the audience when K2SO died.
+ On that note, Alan Tudyk gave a terrific performance as the robot.
- Thought Forrest Whittaker as Saw was a good cast, based on the character from Clone Wars. Why the negative? I was hoping he was going to go with them in the assault on the data storage facility. He didn't get enough to do, although he was on screen more than I expected.
+ Somewhere canon on film now finally explains to people that the Death Star is indeed like a giant lightsaber.
- The starting 1/3 of the film could have been linked together better, it jumps around a bit too much. And they don't explain how they know where Jyn is in order to rescue her.
- CGI Leia just didn't do it for me.
+ On the other hand, CGI Tarkin did work for me. Maybe it's easier to make old guys look realistic with computers?
- However, I suspect there was more Tarkin (and Vader) because Krennic's character arc and development got sacrificed a bit as a result in the reshoots. You don't really get to find out much about what makes him tick during the film.
- Missing bits from the trailer, especially Jyn vs TIE Fighter, I wanted that still in!
+ Blue Squadron finally on film, pity Blue Leader bought it, but there was a bit of a homage to ANH there re Red Leader as he hit the ground.
+ Vader at the end. Nuff said.

Interesting...
I felt the exact opposite. Tarkin looked awful. Like a video game. Whereas the shot of Leia was short enough to not distract. It worked.

Same here.
I think
CGI Tarkin would have worked better had his screentime remained limited to profile and back shots, and mirror reflections. You could tell he was CGI mostly by the movement of his mouth (or lack thereof).
OTOH, I thought
CGI Leia looked great.

Today, The Walt Disney Studios will become the first studio ever to reach the $7 billion threshold at the global box office, setting a new industry record. With a powerful $290 million global debut for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney’s year-to-date grosses are $6.988 billion from Jan. 1 through Dec. 18, 2016, including $2.700 billion domestically, also an industry record, and $4.287 billion internationally, a Disney record.
These box office results are driven by films from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm, representing the first time that all five of these brands have released films in the same calendar year.

Saw this on Sunday. I thought it was really good. It definitely had a much different "feel" from the rest of the Star Wars films; it had its own style, and it's nice to see that it seems they'll really be distinguishing these "anthology" films from the mainline films.
The cast was really stellar, and I was surprised at how brutal it was in terms of killing off characters. I did not expect Saw Gerrera and Galen Erso to be killed off so early on, and I was expecting at least a couple of the characters to survive the film!
Anyway, so far Disney is two for two with this franchise. I mean, I was actually never much of a SW fan before, but I've really loved these last two entries.
