My thoughts too. I'd love to have more of the soundtrack. Three tracks is not enough. Also, no Snow White? I guess if these are going with anniversaries, the next one would be 2017? I would love love love a complete version of the Snow White soundtrack, especially since I don't have the regular version.
But this is really exciting news!!! I am interested in Pinocchio, Cinderella, Mary Poppins, and Disneyland. Maybe Lady and the Tramp too, if it's cheap enough. The cover for The Lion King soundtrack is really nice. I hope they go that route with all of them.

Walt Disney Records and Intrada released 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea on CD in 2011. The CD is
still available and as far as I know it's complete.

Y'no, I forgot about how detailed this one is. I still need to consider it.

Well, I started a Disney soundtrack collection recently.
Good thing I didn't bought almost any of them in English, only in Portuguese
I just feel betrayed because I just bought Cinderella soundtrack (with the lost chords). So recently that it came to me yesterday
The other ones will be an absolute pleasure to my ears.

They're planning on releasing more Disney soundtracks on Vinyl. They'll be exclusive to Hot Topic though. The Little Mermaid and The Lion King will be the first ones to be released on April 29th in stores and online from May 6th.
A message from a spokesperson at Hot Topic announcing the news can be found below.
"Hot Topic will be carrying Disney Soundtracks on limited edition vinyl picture discs. These are exclusive to Hot Topic and these are the only versions being made for these soundtracks. The first two are for The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. Both look absolutely amazing. I'm working on doing more of these with Disney but for now these first 2 are coming late April/early May. As of right now they should be available in all Hot Topic stores on 4/29 and online on 5/6."

The Mermaid artwork is beyond crap. Crap is being generous.
Concept art would look really good and make these feel really special. Vinyl has so much potential for amazing artwork so why put that rubbish on it?
The Lion King doesn't look anywhere near as bad. Rafiki holding baby Simba is instantly recognizable and a classic image.

I saw that in the store, and the artwork is the reason why I was asking.
What a complete turd of a release. The release comes in a see through plastic bag/folder, no paper included or anything.
The artwork is complete shit. Even the lion king ones. Why the heck use that one with all the characters?
Ursula's hand looks like a bird.
If you can use actual shots from the movie in your shirts, why not use the shots on these vinyls?
But unfortunately... If these are the only ones released, I might cave in and get them. But's hurts me to get them. T___T

This is great news from Disney, finally something for the fans & collectors! That they have never released something like this before is a bit odd, there must be thousands of people who would want to buy extended/complete soundtracks of their classic movies. I hope these releases will contain the complete scores of the movies...
I also second what many others have stated, that Disney should expand upon this collection in the upcoming years to include such movies as Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Mulan and Tarzan - and above all the rest of the Alan Menken soundtracks from the 90's: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules. It would be great to get a chance to buy the complete scores for those Menken movies. (The Princess and the Frog, Tangled and Frozen would also be nice addition to this collection, but these movies are perhaps not old enough yet.)

They're being sold at *Hot Topic*. That's enough to discount any notion that these were conceived with any consideration for *taste*.

Ok, I'm actually gonna go ahead and defend Hot Topic, because I feel like they deserve it.
When Disney decides to release merchandise (mostly clothes) for adults, they try to make things hip and cool, and never take their fans seriously. While Hot Topic uses iconic screenshots from movies and actually care about what the fans want. Granted, their image of emo and punk will forever be there, but their Disney line easily stands out and is beyond perfection. They do whatever it takes to please the fans.
Tell me, why does disney make stuff like this:
http://www.yourwdwstore.net/assets/imag ... 289901.jpg
http://www.disneystore.com/aurora-tee-f ... 3/1000228/
http://www.disneystore.com/grumpy-tee-f ... 5/1000228/
http://www.disneystore.com/grumpy-tee-f ... 4/1000228/
http://www.disneystore.com/gaston-tee-f ... 8/1000228/
While Hot Topic releases this:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... 153245.jsp
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... 153345.jsp
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... 160852.jsp
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... 164620.jsp
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... 078287.jsp
Go look at their complete collection:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/PopCul ... sp?state=1
Not only did they cater to what the older fans really want, they actually acknowledged movies like Mulan, Hercules, and Pocahontas, that are constantly ignored by the actual company.
I was appalled by the selection when I was at Disney World last year. it was horrible. I was grateful that there was a hot topic disney collection, and so are my sisters.
Do I work there? No. So why am I getting mad about this?
Because I was actually there today to buy the vinyls and I saw a little girl walk in because she saw an Ariel dress and shirt, and her parents quickly rushed her out, calling the store demonic and unsuitable for anyone civilized.
It's a sad world when Hot Topic cares more about their fans than Disney does. And I wouldn't be surprised if Disney actually forced Hot Topic to use these images.
Hot Topic didn't have stuff for those "deemed lesser" movies, but the fans said that they wanted stuff, and hot topic delivered. When at the same time, Disney won't even acknowledge their fans.
So there goes my Hot Topic rant

Sorry, if I stepped out line.

They do have more interesting merch than what can be found in Disney Stores or at the parks, generally. It's a perk of having a particular target demographic rather than trying to produce a vast array of stuff to cover the buying spectrum. I do wish the Disney locations had more things I'd personally be interested in. I have a family member who worked for the company a while in the 70s and again for all of the 80s (and to this day, depending on management cycles, still gets around 90% of his freelance work from Disney during any given year); he's been commissioned for a couple clothing designs for the parks that never got much support or took off, and they tended to be better and more interesting than most of the offerings.
Thing is, there's a limited segment of the population that are going to choose Disney apparel for anything other than Disney vacation wear. I had a collection of hidden Mickey motif ties I wore for work when I was wearing ties to work; apart from that, I've only ever really worn a straight-up classic Mickey T (and my Oswald T until it got too ratty and worn).
My issue with the picture discs is that they're *picture discs*, which have never been anything more than a novelty item. The only real reason to buy vinyl is for the warmth and superior audio quality they can provide (with a decent setup). The only reason to buy a picture disc is to hang it on the wall, in which case there's a world of more interesting choices to be made that aren't records.

The artwork for those vinyls, especially The Little Mermaid, are simply tasteless. If people buy them for their artwork/for decorative purposes, I would instead recommend to get Disney laserdiscs from the 80s and 90s. They actually have nice artwork. Search for the Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Memaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and Hercules laserdiscs on
http://www.ebay.com to see for yourself.

Wait, are you talking about the actual discs or the jackets?
Cause from what i've seen, the Laserdiscs are all silver. No images, but they're folders are amazing.
While Hot Topic's vinyls don't even have a folder, it's just in a clear plastic bag. -_-"

This is true. "Picture Discs" are absolutely garbage in the sound department. The only reason to buy these are indeed to hang them up on the wall. Frozen's vinyl is a difference situation. Colored vinyl =/= picture discs. There is the potential for sound quality benefits in that release (Notice I said "potential" as that is on the condition that it is mastered well). The price of the Frozen vinyl made me decide to not get it and I'm into the whole vinyl and audiophile game.

That's how many picture discs throughout the decades have come. Almost all picture discs today are released in a clear plastic bag instead of a folder.
This is the common look of picture discs in bags today and this one is a picture disc released in 1983:

Though I would love folders to make a comeback for that vintage look.
