I read this earlier and had to chuckle. Just because they make it, does not mean myself or other fans will see it. There is a valuable lesson for all of us fans, just because a studio makes a sequel or a reboot does not mean we have to see it or even accept it. It's ok to avoid it.

I might give it a chance that said, but it has a mighty high hill to climb to convince me.

I'm doubtfull of it's succes.. to say the least. Why tinker with past glories... Soon we will see more & more remakes if this one rakes in enough cash. I'd prefer original takes on new material

I wouldn't exactly call Pete's Dragon a glory...

I seem to remember this being mentioned before, along with a proposed DTV sequel of the original. To be honest, I doubt this would get very far. I know a remake of Bedknobs and Broomsticks was also tossed about at one point, but nothing came of it.

Oh for goodness sakes, what Disney executive plonker thinks this is a good idea?
Wonder if it is something to do with 'How to Train Your Dragon' being a big success ? Disney would like a new franchise maybe ...

I think it's a great idea to remake PETE'S DRAGON. The original is horribly outdated and the pacing is uneven.

I agree it is a classic film, but I have high hopes it could be done better -- especially with today's technology.

Not surprised it is being remade. They re-introduced the character at the Parks. Now I know why.

I haven't seen Pete's Dragon and I'm not going to offer an opinion of it, but I thought the general consensus was that it's not that great.

But, then again, I don't understand why "remake" is considered such an ugly word. I'm still waiting for Disney to get around to filming that Black Hole remake they announced a while back. That film is in desperate need of one.

We actually really need a remake of Pete's Dragon.

Said no one ever.

It' not like Disney never remade any of their own films before... Oh wait! they did.

True, but they're making all of the originals now pretty much with Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty. It's so sad that they have to rely on Marvel and Star Wars movies now for new films, instead of imagination. :(

Pete's Dragon only works as a musical, I don't/can't see it as anything else. Also Eliot's pretty iconic I'd say, his image is still seen around today and is featured in The Electric Light Parade at Disney World.

A remake of Pete's Dragon is totally unnecessary, however, Disney hasn't made a remake of any movie that has ever replaced the original. Remakes aren't always needed, but they don't seem to take anything away from the original in the public's mind. Even a huge success like Disney's/Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland doesn't diminish the reputation or popularity of the 1951 animated version. I'm not saying a remake of Pete's Dragon is a good thing, but it's not something to be feared. The biggest downside is that they should be putting their efforts and resources into something original, although, it could be said that remakes spark interest in the original version by a new generation or by anyone who hasn't seen it already. For that reason it could be considered positive in helping keep the past alive.

Oh, gosh no. One Pete's Dragon enough. I'm sure the remake would be an improvement, but almost anything would. Did the blu-ray sales do really well or something?

I bet Elliott will be a CG dragon that's all wacky and talks and makes Don Bluth want to shoot himself.
