I'm in the same boat as you. I find the film "classic" and all.... but rather boring. Actually, it doesn't hold my attention after awhile. I saw the stage musical and was BLOWN AWAY!

Someone's gonna smack me, but I prefer Ashley Brown over Julie Andrews any day

Okay, I gotta be honest,... I just came back from seeing the touring version of Mary Poppins a while ago. Had I not gotten the Parrot umbrella I'd wanted since I was a child, and had I not gotten to snuggle the whole time with a girl I totally adore, I would have been pretty disappointed on the whole for this $100 per ticket experience.
Bottom line, Broadway vs film, to me the Broadway version was really, REALLY BAD in comparison to the film. The scenes directly out of the film, which were few, were the only ones I really liked, along with Bert walking upside down. I certainly didn't like any of the new songs as much as songs that were left out. The statues coming to life was no way a good replacement for the penguins, no Merry-go Round scene? The shop where they were buying letters... No Uncle Albert.... I didn't care for it much, honestly. And my date, who has never seen the film, was pretty confused and underwhelmed by the whole thing, and I never for a minute was unclear of why. It all seemed kinda like a big mess to me when it came to storytelling, despite talented people obviously performing their bottoms off. The one INTERESTING thing was the inclusion of, basically, an evil nanny Mary Poppins had to defeat. Oh well.
For the record, I LOVED the other Disney Broadway touring show I have seen, which was Beauty and the Beast.
And, I was wondering, both of us want to see The Little Mermaid. Has that toured before? If so, is it not going to tour again? Does it even play on Broadway anymore?

The Little Mermaid closed on Broadway in August 2009 after a run of about 19 months.

Does that mean there won't be a tour?

The reworked musical may tour the USA in 2013 after its upcoming European tour.
