It's a very similar concept to the Kinder Egg, which is not legally available in the US.
But why aren't Kinder Eggs legally available in the US?

It's the exact same issue: the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1938. Kinder Eggs are made of chocolate and contain toys that have already been deemed a choking hazard to small children. Apparently people are concerned that children will attempt to eat the toys inside.
There is a black market for them though, you can sometimes find them in shops that carry imported chocolates.

If you think that food act is silly, consider how much Halloween has changed over the past 2 decades.
I work in a high school, and it's illegal for us as teachers to bring in candy or any other foods to give to the class. It is also not allowed for students to share food.
I remember both the candy bars and the Wonder Balls and miss them as well.

Oh, how I love Kinder Eggs. As far as I can remember, the Wonder Balls with the toys in them were only on the market for a very short time before being pulled. And the ones with Sweet Tarts inside were just sort of weird.

With all this candy egg talk I'm suddenly in the mood for a Cadbury Creme Egg.

I know I'm bumping from a long time ago...sorry
I was thinking the other day and I remember ice cream cups from when Pocahontas and THoND was in Theatres. My dad must have bought me so many of them. I found some of the commercials for those interested.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPKTtGlD7tU - Hunchback
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FATsCG4-QMI - Pocahomtas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxVuU7eHq3w - Hercules
I don't remember them for Mulan or beyond. I do remember really enjoying them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDs6eS_Ngtw - Hercules Chocolate Bar commercial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf0MHL0 ... qL&index=6 - Pocahontas Chocolate Bar (I ate a lot of these)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC-79Xx ... b7OeYRqvqL - Nestle Magic Ball 1997
I have such nostalgia for these. I'm still gutted Disney ended their Happy Meal deal. I know why they did but I would have loved some PatF/Tangled/Frozen toys.
I loved the Disney food of the 90's. It was the best.
Kinder eggs in the Uk are doing Marvel/Disney Princess eggs and I'm collecting the Princesses. I just need Jasmine. They are pretty detailed for such small figures.

This may be a bit of a sin on here, but I used to love the fact they made Harry Potter chocolate !
Like the chocolate frogs, Bertie Botts every flavour beans etc…now those were amazing !

We have a British store over in my downtown, and they sell Kinder Eggs. I'll try to go there and see if they have the princesses in there.

Don't get the three packs. Only one has a princess egg.
The single eggs always have a princess.
Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Rapunzel are the princesses you can find.
Happy hunting!

I remember these. I also remember they had yogurt released for Pocahontas and I think Hunchback. I also remember Nestle released mini chocolate bars around Halloween. The bars featured the Old Hag, Cruella, Jafar and Hades on them. They must have came out in 1997 to promote Hercules. But they released them for another 3 years or so because I remember looking all over for them when they must have discontinued them. I was so bummed haha. I still have a wrapper saved from the villain candies. I miss the 90's lol.

I don't think the law protecting young children from choking on the tiny toys is silly at all. I think it's an important law. But the one about teachers giving food and kids sharing food is silly.

Unfortunately, the obesity epidemic we have going on in the states has parents freaking out, and that coupled with the rise of food allergies has many schools afraid of getting sued (many now have a strict peanut butter ban, for example). It's unfortunate (and a bit ridiculous in my eyes), but the trend has happened in order to protect the schools and the children, while allowing parents more control over what their children eat.
My third grade teacher used to pass out Smarties candy for good grades.

Or fancy striped paper clips! Whichever we preferred, lol.

I don't get how someone can choke on a Kinder Egg, though, since the toy isn't right in it- you have to go through a plastic little egg inside first. If you're afraid of a younger kid just eating it all up, then just don't give them one.

They have changed them a little, because my oldest brother wanted to collect the Star Wars toys when they did them over here, they just have the small now, instead of having the toy be made and set into tiny little pieces.
But I vaguely remember the Hercules chocolate bars and loved them to death <3

I bought six Kinder eggs yesterday (extreme) so I completed the Princess set. I'm so sick of Kinder Chocolate.
I thought I'd post some more nostalgia. More Disney food tie-ins.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBGmIKLRDLs - Nestle Pocahontas. Apparently Juice helps you celebrate Pocahontas.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P89KbyeuWxs - Burger King and Hunchback.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHyhtfVkcH4 - Pizza Hut and Beauty and The Beast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abP7ITUu0VE - Hills Bros Coffee also wants to make you celebrate the excitement of Pocahontas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwgyE9a34Aw - McDonald's and Hercules.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6xz_hHulQ0 - Burger King and Pocahontas Finger puppets.
Pocahontas and John Smith look terrifying in their disembodied form.
Enjoy! I love these commercials. It makes me want to go back to the 90's.

this makes me feel old.

I was in my early 20's when all this stuff came out and collected the wrappers. I still have the wrappers for the Lion King, Pocahontas & Hercules bars. They were Nestle milk chocolate bars & were made with these nice molds that had pictures of the characters on the bar. I also collected the Wonderballs for a while until I got sick of the chocolate. Still have some of the WB boxes.
Also once bought a Jurassic Park:Lost World hologram bag of Hershey white chocolate bars.

No eggs at the shop right now. :/ Maybe next time.
