Well Loomis im glad your friends and family get impressed easily
How many times have you read your favorite book or a book you liked? most likely more than once cause you liked it but you usually wait a while before reading it again. or another example if you buy the movie you're going to watch it over and over again why not have features that you can watch again and again or just have for historical reference or whatever. Just remember your DVDs will go for future Loomis generations to enjoy and nothing comes more than the actual casts talking about the movie and making of.... just picture Loomis Jr watching how they made movies back in the days.

yes, I take your point, and I guess I was only HALF serious about buying a DVD due to the cover, but...
...I AM a sucker for a nice looking DVD cover.
I guess, to me, if the producers of the disc are willing to put a bit of effort into every bit of the DVD production (including quality of the film, the extras and other supplements, as WELL as the package) I find the whole DVD experience more enjoyable.
But yes, it is not JUST the cover.

If I may butt in. As some of you may have noticed (just see my
International Packaging Thread, and the New DVD Thread in this very same forum) I don't mind getting multiple copies of discs. Especially if they are sufficiently different (I sold on my R1 single disc League of Extraordinary Gentleman, as it had nothing which isn't on my UK 2 disc set). I generally don't buy multiple copies of discs with similar packaging and features. Each purchase is made on an individual basis and packaging, supplements and general "coolness" come into it. I don't regret buying the American Xena releases even though I have all the (barebones) UK releases because S1 of R1 Xena is in the correct order (yes, Universal UK cocked up the UK release) and S2 and especially S3 have lots of supplements. Plus, I still like the UK packaging, so have decided to keep them rather then sell them on.
I would class myself as a DVD collector, and as such the physical DVDs mean just as much to me as the actual films. It may be a wacky way of looking at it and some people ask "What are you going to do with it?" and I reply "Look at it!".
After all, its the same appeal as collecting stamps (or to compare with a similar, even more expensively priced example) what's the difference between collecting multiple copies of DVDs and Disney snowglobes?
