Hmmm...here are a few thoughts:

- Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins.

- Admiral Boom and his first mate, also in MP (c'mon...those two are getting it on for sure!)

- The caterpillar iN Alice in Wonderland (1951)

- What about Gaston and Lefou? THose loooong hunting trips to the woods...maybe he wanted Belle so badly cause he didnt want people to suspect (some of the manliest guys in the world are gay).

- And c'mon...Lumiere is at least bi!

@Disney Jedi- is homosexuality in films considered something that needs to be censored? I've never heard that before.

Are you meaning in terms of homosexuality being portrayed in a kids movie or the fact it got in at all. See this is where the forum can get ugly cause people say things without justification. Saying homosexuality has to be censored could be taken very badly so if you could be more specific I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Well, no. I'm not saying it needs to be censored. I'm just surprised that Disney managed to get that whole Djali & Hugo thing past the radar, let alone going over the kids' heads.

ITT, Disney Characters that act "fabulous" or "flamboyant" = GAY.

I'd love to know what the hell the "gay agenda" is. As a bisexual, I guess I'm left out of the loop

I don't think Disney characters are that gay. Of course, based on what I see on House of Mouse, Pete dressed in a ballet costume and kisses Mortimer Mouse on the mistletoe, then I should say Pete is gay! He should play Roger DeBris from The Producers. Keep it gay..Keep it gay.......Keep it gaaaaaaay!

Now that I've finished my rant, here are some Disney characters who I think of as gay or bisexual.

-Flower:I'd say he's bisexual
-Most of the characters in Alice In Wonderland
-Prince John and Sir Hiss: I get strong vibes from the tickling foot with tongue thing
-Tod and Copper: The Fox & The Hound is the closest that Disney has ever come to covering homosexuality. Tod is quite possibly bisexual (It would explain his interest in boring Vixey) and Copper is almost certainly gay. It feels like a love triangle when Chief gets involved
-Francis from Oliver & Company: He reminded me of Stephen Fry
-Cogsworth and Lumiere: I would say that the latter is bisexual due to his relationship with Babette, but the former seems very much gay.
-Scar: He strikes me as gay. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him being bisexual, but as a DTV sequel, Simba's Pride can't be used as evindence
-Zazu
-Hugo: Pretty much established
-Hermes from Hercules

Gotta put my two cents in and say Nigel from The Wild

Like I said last time this came up, I think a lot of people are confusing unmasculine and sensitive with gay. The two CAN coexist, and that is the stereotype, but a male can also be these things and NOT be gay. It is stereotyping to assume a male is gay just because they are "soft" and sensitive (like Ferdinand and Reluctant Dragon). Just as it would be stereotyping to assume someone is hetero just because they fit the hetero stereotypes. IMO, it is better to consider someone's orientation as "undefined" or "unknown" until you actually know what gender they are interested in, if any. That's what I try to do, anyway. I don't assume anything about people just because it may fit stereotypes.

In short, a character can be assumed to be "straight" if they are interested in members of the opposite sex, "gay" if they are interested in members of the same sex, and "bi" if they are interested in both. Without this key information, you just don't know.

PS. This post is not intended to offend anyone or to start a long debate that last day after day or page after page!

Also, I wish I'd remembered Wiggins. He's definitely gay. I think possibly Pleakley, though maybe he just enjoys being in drag.

Sexual orientation is the last thing I look for in a Disney movie character right after if they're right or left handed (or pawed, hooved or whatever other appendages they use).

I agree whole-heartedly.

Who cares whether they are gay or straight or whatever. That's not what was intended when the movies were made and we should feel guilty for even bringing a subject like this up regarding Disney animated or live-action films. It just shows that some people have too much time on their hands!!!

Absolutely agreed! I do the same as you: I never make assumptions like that based on people's behavior and/or interests. I just don't seem to even notice them. I'm always the last person to find out somebody is gay. In college, there was a guy who owned all the records of the Pussycat Dolls. Okay, according to everybody else this should have clued me... I don't know, I don't lookt at it that way. I only found out Howard Ashman was gay a little less than a year ago, when I read something somewhere about his "life-partner". Okay, I had just always assumed this was a grown man who just happened to like musicals and Disney and who just happened to get HIV. Maybe I'm naive that way, but I honestly don't think in stereotypes like that. Maybe it's because I don't fit the 'stereotypically heterosexual/ultra-manly mold' either.

But come on... Hermes is as gay as can be!

Complaining about useless threads on an internet message board is like going to Burger King and complain they don't have anything healthy to eat. It strikes me as very odd to complain about this thread and this thread only, when literally every other aspect of Disney is being discussed to pieces. You're telling me *all* other threads interest you and you read them all, except for this one?! If you're a homophobe, just come out and say it and be proud of it, like milojthatch. But don't hide yourself behind the "wasted time" excuse.
