Normally, Disney doesn't develop their princes all that well.
They took big steps with the Beast/Adam(???). I would only for sorry for him, because he was listed as a villain in Frank & Ollie's villains book.

Yeah. What was up with that? I mean I knew at first he was rotten to Belle, but that doesn't necessarily make him a villain.

Though I haven't come across that book in years, I seem to recall that everyone and anyone who even slightly misbehaved was classed as a villain by Frank and Ollie, such as the Cheshire Cat, Fagin from
Oliver and Company, and perhaps even Tinker Bell.

I know this was discussed in another thread before (I think with DDuster), but I think it's worth saying again: if Belle hadn’t come, Maurice would’ve died in Beast’s dungeon--and he almost died anyway. For that reason, Beast was definitely a villain when Belle met him, and his "Beast" side deserves to be in The Disney Villain. That’s what makes his story arc as great as it is, when he decides not to murder Gaston, that someone can come out of that.
@ Wonderlicious: I think you're right about that. Even in the
Mermaid section, they talk about Glut even though he only appears in one scene. Still, they put the largest focus on the main villain, such as the Queen of Hearts in the
Alice section. Beast gets more focus than Gaston does in the book, actually.

I know they also listed Brer Rabbit as a villain, along with Brer Fox and Brer Bear, even though the threesome were more or less following a Looney Tunes dynamic.

Brer Rabbit? Why include him as a villain? Gee, I'd hate to think how they would have classed Jack Skellington if they made a second book.
Anyway, back on topic. The prince I do feel somewhat sorry for is the Beast. Yeah he was a jerk in the beginning but once you think about it, he probably had no proper supervision. And of course even when he is being abusive to Belle, there are times when you see him considering if he did do the right thing. (Watch that scene after he sends Maurice away and he sees Belle crying.)

Er... why would anybody feel sorry for any of the princes? They're rich, handsome, powerful and best of all, they get to f*ck Disney princesses! Where's the bad part?

I can see what you mean, but what about the dragon fights, the enchantments, the battles at sea, etc.?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Did they get their happily ever after? If so then all that shit means zip.

Seeing as they all got their happy ending it's hard to know which one I would feel sorry for.
In terms of BEFORE they got their happy ending my vote would have to go to the Beast/ Prince Adam, he was only 11 years old when an old haggard woman came to his door and asked to stay in his house. The beginning makes sense at the start of the fairytale i.e, he's arrogant, etc. But then you think.... he was 11! You cant really judge someone's arrogance when they're 11, they've not properly grown yet. Then he becomes a beast for the next 10 years. Ouch.
I bet when he turned human again he would think again if a hag happened to turn up at his door again lol.
Second place would have to be Aladdin of COURSE. I get the impression he was thrown out at quite a young age and just had to learn to deal. He had to learn to adapt to living on the streets otherwise he'd starve.
After that I'm not sure, I don't feel any sympathy for the first 3 Princes because their only challenge was finding their dream girl, although Phillip had a big challenge. I suppose the next would maybe be Naveen. He was really pampered and spoilt but he had a real fall from grace in the movie, you got the sense he was a fun loving party boy but then got tricked and turned into a frog. I didn't really feel sorry for him, I mean he learnt responsiblity on the way so he deserved it.
Princess I feel most sorry for is Cinderella, followed by Rapunzel.

Speak for yourself. I liked the "vs." threads.
Me too, actually. I know this is off topic, but I just wanted to state my opinion.

Jackoleen, you're hilarious!
How about John Smith? (Yeah, yeah. He's not a prince, I know.) BUT he gets shot, has to take a yucky boat ride back to England, AND the princess ends up dumping him for someone else in a crappy sequel. That's pretty bad.

It's not bad to be off-topic when it's my opinion you're agreeing with. By the way, I wouldn't have minded if you had credited me for the quote.

^Goliath meant that you didn't mention it was him you were quoting. When you quoted him, it just said "Quote: . . ." instead of saying "Goliath wrote: . . ."
