I enjoy A Goofy Movie a lot more than some of the DAC's.

I like the movie quite a bit too, but I wasn't aware the movie was actually succesful. Gonna check that one out.

At least this shows Disney has not forgot about Mickey mouse and willing give him more spotlight. I mean when was last time Disney even promote or advertise the mouse? In the 90's he was like all over the place like my fart radiate all over the room.

I bet you kids this gen wouldn't even know who the fuck mickey mouse even is.

There's this from Bleeding Cool regarding future projects in the Hat Building:

... I did take a second to enquire about what [Disney veteran Burny] Mattinson will be working on next. And while it’s early days for his new project, it does sound like the perfect follow-up to Pooh.

He said:

I am working on just an idea of my own which is basically a Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea. We have to present it first to the bosses to get the green light. ...

As it happened, I talked to Mr. Mattinson a bit of a while ago (the audio for which will appear here next Monday and Tuesday) and we chit-chatted about projects that he's developed and worked on over the years that never made it to production. One of those projects -- in the 1980s -- was Mickey, Donald and Goofy in a version of The Three Musketeers. As Burny said when we spoke:

"That earlier version was a lot different than the direct-to-video version that came out a long time later. Ours was going to be more action-oriented, like the book."

It's a shame that Burny's version never got made. But then, I've long thought it sad that the Mouse, the Duck and the Goof haven't made it into anything longer than a featurette. They deserve a format that's longer. They deserve to have their own full-length franchise.

Who knows? Maybe Mr. Mattinson will make that happen. He's got Mickey-Donald-Goofy storyboards in his office that look spiffy.

major overstatement. He's still a huge logo and there's still MMC that gets its share of ads on DVDs.

Hmm, Disney has reacquired the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit but they have said they’re waiting for the appropriate time to reintroduce him as a major character… could he perhaps have a role in this film?

I think a Mickey feature could be a really good idea. It seems like Disney is getting "back to basics" as of late, and what better way than to go back to one of their earliest characters?

I wonder if they'd do more of a classic tale, like Mickey's Christmas Carol/The Prince and the Pauper, or attempt something more modern/cutting-edge, ala along the lines of the Epic Mickey storyline.

Well, Lasseter did say a while back that he wanted the company to re-visit and refurbish Disney's older franchises. After the new Pooh and Muppet movies are out, it seems only natural that Mickey and the gang would be next. I feel like this would be the perfect time to introduce Oswald, so I hope they take this moment and run with it.

Personally, I don't really want to see them used in an older tale. I think I'd like to see them used in a modern setting and dealing with a real-life situation of some kind, like how A Goofy Movie was made.

I agree it would be nice to see an adaptation of Epic Mickey, at least that would mean that Oswald would finally be included. Either way, I like the sound of this; these characters have stood the test of time for the best part of a century so I don't see why a good film couldn't be produced based on them.

Well, a Mickey movie is by no means a very original idea, and one can justly criticise Disney of being stuck in their saftey zone, and sadly allowing traditional animation seemingly just for B-pictures (such as this and Winnie the Pooh). Yet my nostalgic instincts can't help but make me feel slightly excited, whether the film were a general adventure story or a classic adaptation. Plus, we've never had a full-length Mickey movie outside of the DTV realm (I'm naturally not counting the likes of Fantasia and Fun and Fancy Free), so I suppose a better financed WDAS production wouldn't be all that unwelcome.

I gotta say it:

I don't know if this is really that "Disney" or what Walt would want because Mickey was only ever in shorts and one cameo in Fantasia, not a whole feature film about him and his friends.

I know about Mickey and the Beanstalk, but that never happened,and I know people say it was because of the war and budget, but perhaps Walt also decided it wasn't good to use Mickey and the gang for a whole feature, actually.

The war and budgets have been documented as reasons behind the shortening of the feature, but was it ever documented that Walt made the decision because "it wasn't good?" Why is this assumption even thrown into the equation? Do you have any basis for it beyond your presumption of knowing what Walt would have wanted?

Walt Disney told me that he thought "Tangled" lacked the Disney essence in that he wished it had more fart jokes.

But let's face facts, guys. If Walt ever even thought that Mickey shouldn't be in a full-length feature at one point, we should hold that opinion sacrosanct because even were he somehow alive, he would have never ever changed his mind ever because people don't do that. Not to mention that the sole reason the company has survive all these years is because before every decision, no matter how small, the question "What Would Walt Want?" (WWWW) was posed, and decisions made accordingly.

Walt Disney told me inside my head that he thinks he can kick my ass in MvC3. I laugh my ass off, and told him he going get rape. We started playing. My team was Deadpool, MODOK, Dr. fucking Doom.

Walt was Chun Li, Felicia and Magneto.

First, till it's been made official, it's just a fun idea and nothing more. I'd love to see a direct to video film finishing up "the Pirates of Dark Water" or see a new cartoon show with Scrooge or Darkwing Duck, but each has as much weight as this till it's made official.

Second, as for my feelings if this is official? So long as they keep the energy going from "Epic Mickey" and stop looking at the Mouse as a corporate nice guy and more as the action hero for the silver screen he original was, this could be great. What would really be good is if Oswald was a major part of this, like he was in "Epic Mickey." I support making Oswald relevant again. This could be Mickey's "Toy Story 3" for all any of us know?

If done right, this could be a major film for the Mouse and Disney. If not, then I hope they don't make it and find something else. There are TONS of myths and fables not yet touched that would make excellent Disney films if they are willing to look outside of European stories, as well as ideas based on other kids of stories that have nothing to do with fairy tales.
