I find it completely ridiculous that he now seems to be blaming Miley for her downfall (Which hasn't 100% even happened yet). This seems as if he's already throwing in the towel for his daughter's life. As much as I've never been a fan of Miley, I will say that my distaste for her has always been sourced from the feeling that Hannah Montana was a product of her father desperately clinging to fame after his one-hit-wonder career.
I think as long as the family stops talking about it, Miley's crash and burn probably wouldn't be as huge as Britney's or Lindsay's. As much as the Cyrus family may think she is, Miley isn't nearly as large as those girls.

I don't think we can blame Disney Channel shows for things like this...it's not like every Disney star's family falls apart. I mean, sure, if the Cyruses were a "normal" family and Miley wasn't catapulted into fame, then maybe many of their problems wouldn't have happened, but you can't blame Disney...it's not like Disney told Miley to do all of these scandalous things, or like Disney forced Billy Ray and Tish apart. It was a part of it, but Disney itself can't be to blame.

Okay, rant over.
Well said, Big Disney Fan!

I do feel bad for him.
How are any of us supposed to really know what really went on? But if he did do wrong, in any case, as long as he truly regrets anything he did, then he should get forgiveness and sympathy, and we should feel sad about any family getting ripped apart.
Disney did the Mickey Mouse Club and stars like Annette were happy and successful, and Christina Aguleira was good...for a while! And then Justin Timberlake...
You need children who can act and sing. What are you supposed to do with them to prevent them from becoming trainwrecks? Isn't anyone in showbusiness privy to having the pressure of Hollywood make them crash? And are we forgetting kids want to become stars, too?
And after all this, I don't even think Miley crashed. What has she done that is sooo bad, honestly?

But I will say this is a textbook case of why you should never put your children in show-business.
Yeah. I was ready to shout something along the lines of "lol, like, we all are!", as Sequel/Poody/Sotiris did (which, to clarify, isn't exactly snide, and I was attempted to post "me three"

). But I'm shocked at what an awful time the Cyruses are going through. Reading the actual GQ article in particular made me feel rather sad. This whole affair is frankly a morality tale, and I only hope this prompts Disney to stop creating these teen stars destined to spiral into chaos.
I felt the same way. When I saw the article title today, I laughed and said, "So
now he's sorry!" Then I read the article. The guy sounds genuinely depressed. The way Billy Ray turns out the lights all the time and lives alone and the picture of him on the counter with his cereal boxes...it's all so sad.

How could he not have seen what was coming?

Sometimes in life we all are blind to the things that happen in this life that should be the most obvious of all from ages as young as 5 to old as 99

I do feel bad for Billy Ray but how can he not have expected his life to change when he signed his daughter up for Hannah Montana? There are always going to be great perks and terrible losses for something like this. He gets a great pay check, his then family is set up for life and then their children will still be better off... He wasn't careful and this is what happened.
Now for Miley... She's just being 18! I only just finished high school and I was doing worse things than smoking "salvia", or taking provocative pictures. She doesn't deserve it. She was much too young at the time to really know what she wanted. Again the parents fault for letting her take control!
How has Miley shown greatness in adversity? She doesn't possess any qualities which render her role model worthy! Let her be! And Billy Ray, put your head back on your shoulders, dig deep, find your f*****g balls and be a dad!
The public have to stop expecting things from celebrities. Scratch that, people have to stop expecting things from anyone. No one is immune to to faults and flaws play a major part in anyones life.

This man needs to shut up. Seriously, first whoring out both your daughters, filling your pockets at their expense and then say you 'regret' it? What a hypocritical asshole.
I'm not blaming Miley or her little sister. I feel sorry for them. I don't have any sympathy for Billy Ray.
Basically. Initially I felt bad for him.. but he's been through all this before. He had that
one song that everyone liked and I'm sure he got a taste of the loss fame causes. Him and his wife are to blame for any problems Miley has had so far.. bad parenting at its finest.

I don't think that anyone knew how big the show (and Miley) would get!
And to put things in perspective, Hilary Duff and Raven never really had the trainwreck phase...and their shows were huge, too.
I think that it's good that Billy Ray realizes now that he needs to be a parent and not a friend to the kids...hopefully he can be a better parent to Miley's younger siblings now. It sucks that it took him so long to realize it, but live and learn...

Thank you. Disney made the offers, Billy Ray accepted them. Sure, it's something like making a deal with the Devil BUT they didn't go into Hannah Montana wanting a moderate success. They might not have been expecting everything that did happen, but would Cyrus have turned it down if he had known just how popular (and lucrative) the franchise would become? Prolly not.
Besides the bong incident has Miley really done anything that bad? I mean, what can you expect? She's been given all this power and money and whatever and probably has an ego the size of who knows what. Of course she's going to try and push boundaries.

Well.... didn't she also appear in Vanity Fair (or on the cover) wearing only a bedsheet?

in the words of Justin Timberlame, cry me a river!
Billy, I think you were the one that couldn't see that your singing career was a flop so you pushed your daughter Miley into show business.
BTW, does anyone know if it was Miley or Disney's idea for a 4th season of Hannah Montana? They should have ended it after three seasons.

I think it was Disney......and I think though if my memory is correct they turned it down but Disney offered loads of more

Disney Duster wrote:You need children who can act and sing.
Yeah, but Miley Cyrus and the other Disney Channel 'stars' can do neither. They can remember lines and sure, a computer can make anybody's singing sound acceptable...
Disney Duster wrote:What are you supposed to do with them to prevent them from becoming trainwrecks? Isn't anyone in showbusiness privy to having the pressure of Hollywood make them crash? And are we forgetting kids want to become stars, too?
How would a child know what's best for him/her? This notion that a child chooses to live such a life is extremely naieve, to me. It's remarkable how many of the celebrities who started out as a Disney child star, ends up in scandals or thinking they have to put out to shake the 'Disney image' (Christina Aguilera in Dirrrrty, anyone?). Now as a man, I would never tell a woman how to dress or behave, but I find it troublesome how all the former Disney stars seem to follow the same path downward.

Yeah... but what exactly was bad about that? I never understood the fake 'controversy' about that.

The deal with that was that thousands, if not millions, of little girls wanted to
be Miley. They idolised her. When you're that adored, you have to be really careful what you do. Parents were upset that their daughters' sixteen(?)-year-old idol was in a sexualized photo shoot. They didn't want their little girls thinking it was all right to dress and pose provocatively. The other thing is that Miley was a Disney star. She was supposed to be
really family friendly.

Yeah, but that was just a photo shoot she shot for somebody else. It's not really an example of her spiraling out of control.

I don't really think it was spiralling out of control, either. I was just pointing out what was bad about it.

Well, of all the things Miley has done (including the pole dancing), this was actually one thing that was not in any way 'bad' or 'provocative' or 'sexualized'. It was a very artsy series of photos. I don't know anybody who saw those pictures as 'sexually provocative'. They were a work of art. The only ones who sexualize them, have to be adult men who like young girls... I can't think of anybody else.

Yes, but like I said, none of us truly know what went on. I always thought this must've been the case:
Miley's little sister wanted attention, a way to not only get to be like her idolized big sister, but also step out of her shadow and make a splash. So she tried to make these sexy clothes, and since business people were all around their family, they probably made her too-sexualized fashion "dream" come true before her father could really stop her.
What father could honestly stomach seeing those clothes on his daughter, even for money? There's no evidence these Cyrus girls make their dad hot for them. I think daddy's little girl said she wanted to make pretty clothes, daddy said, "Sure", and by the time he saw what she was making, it was too late.
