In the article I posted, Tiana joined officially in the Disney Princess line on March 14, 2010.

So I’m sure Rapunzel will join in the line next spring, too. [Because all the books I posted featuring Rapunzel will be released next summer]

Ah, I see ! So that makes sense !

This is a little off topic, but .....

what do you guys see when you log onto www.disneyprincess.com ? Mine is just some crappy, very much UN-interactive site just listing activites you can do. Is that the same for everyone else ?

The person who made this board just wants to seem like a victim. And find an excuse to make it seem that Disney is racist and leaves out the poor black people.

Obviously Tiana is in every new merchandise, just get up and go to your nearest Disney store.

Now if you really want to complain then complain about Princess Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron not being included whatsoever.

Besides, i think Princess Tiana is ugly and she doesn't fit in. Not racist, just don't like it. I think that if they really wanted to throw in a Black princess they could of made a good story of a tribal princess. Not destroy a great story like the Frog Prince.

The same for me, but I’m not from the US either…

Maybe they are modifying it and including Rapunzel? That would make sense!

I already mentioned this earlier in the thread, but my understanding is that Disney would have to pay annual royalties to Amy Adams in order to keep Giselle merchandise going, as Giselle's "look" is so tied into Ms Adams' own likeness.

I'm in the US, and I see the same interactive site that's been up since Tiana was added last year: 2D-style princess characters lined up in Flash, similar to what you see in my current banner (in fact it's where I pulled the images for my banner when I made it last year).

* * *

I realize that Rapunzel is very new, but I'd like to see more of her with the other girls soon. Tiana was added pretty quickly if I recall correctly (at least to the official Disney Princess site). :) I'd also like to see characters like Eilonwy, Megara, Kida, and Giselle added to the lineup despite the "politics" of only including the more marketable characters, regardless of whether or not people consider them actual princesses (and yeah, I understand there were issues with Amy Adams' likeness which is why she isn't a part of the group). I get the gist of it all but I think they'd be better off selling their female characters as "heroines" rather than princesses. ;) I seriously think that adding the more obscure characters to the lineup (such as in doll sets and group shots for merchandise) would help boost awareness of their respective films.

And for the record, this is only my personal opinion but I think Tiana is a wonderful role model and has a great character design, despite any perceived weaknesses her film may have had. :)

Um...really? Really? :? She's practically a copy of the Ariel/Belle/Jasmine prototype with darker skin and hair, and more curves. How is she any uglier than they are? And, I'm wondering, do you think that Giselle, a mock-up of the "Disney Princess," and Rapunzel, a 3D character, also wouldn't fit in? Because that would make more sense.

Maybe for you, but not for me. It's all about opinions.
Anyway, I'm glad Giselle isn't included, and well I wasn't too happy about Tangled being CG, but it's a good movie...and I'm sure she wont look out of place, since she'll be cartoon animated.

And Tiana does not have any curves. If you want a Princess with curves then take a look at Jasmine, lol.

Why is everybody taking this stupid merchandising line so seriously? Honestly, if I were a fan of Princess and the Frog, I would be *glad* had she not been included in the enless stream of dolls/toys/lunch boxes/pyjamas/underwear/toothbrushes/thermomethers/tampons etc.

The Disney Princess Line is exactly why they had to change the name of their last film from 'Rapunzel' to 'Tangled' in the US. It's why Disney is regarded as childish and girlish (that, and the Disney Channel crap) --I hear this over and over again: Pixar is considered cool, hip and adult, while Disney gets you rolling eyes, barf sounds and giggles. They do "girly" or "children's" stuff.

The 1990's are over. Sequels, Disney Channel and most of all that hideous Princess Line has destroyed Disney's image. It's embarrassing nowadays to be an adult man and stand in line at the theater to order two tickets to *cough* Rapunzel *cough*.

A "tribal princess" would be appropriate for a black character? Like president Obama, the "loud tribesman" (quote Newt Gingrich)? But you're not racist? Of course you're not.

Call me whatever you like. Not here to argue with anyone. You don't know me and I don't know you. So don't talk, cause you're only trying to look good.

Africa has millions of tribal princesses, and a story of one would be quite unique and fitting... Not destroy a wonderful story just to throw in a black princess.

Glad we have someone here to judge us all. I'm sure we'd be lost without you.

For the record- I agree that Disney is not being racist in this instance (now again, as for all the years they avoided a black princess...). They don't care about anything that much.

Up until now this is what you've said:

1. The black princess is ugly

2. The black princess has no curves, like all the other princesses (so the black princess is different)

3. The black princess should be a tribal person (so a black princess should be a savage)

4. A wonderful story was destroyed because the princess was black

Maybe you're not a racist. Maybe you just say racist things all the time.

Personally, I like the princess line. IDK why, I just think it's kind of cool. For example, 2011 will be my third year in a row using the official Disney Princess wall calender. Here's my complaint, though. It just isn't consistent. So, OK, there are supposedly 10 Disney princess, right? Well, I never, ever see Pocahontas or Mulan on the merch. And here's the weird part: Jasmine used to be on everything. Now, I see items that look exactly the same as the old ones, but with Jasmine replaced by Tiana. Now, I love both of them, but it still annoys me. What, we have one token ethnic princess, we don't need another one? If we have two, it's OK, get rid of one to make room for the other? What? OK, so I get that, for example, with a calender, it makes sense to use only 6 of the princesses, so that each can have 2 pages. Alright, I'll buy that (even though I'd rather have 2 get two pages, or better yet, 2 group shots of 5 each, as opposed to this system). Still, if you have to cut somebody for Tiana, why Jasmine? Why not Aurora? She's pretty much useless, anyway...

I hope that didn't come across too, "How dare you?!" I was just honestly shocked anyone would find one of their characters ugly, especially a protagonist. Animated characters seem almost always aesthetically attractive--more perfect than real people. Even ugly characters are usually ugly in a "pretty" animated way. :D
