Disney should only put the 3D castle on their new releases movies not on re-releases.

Agreed. Though, if they really feel the need to use the new CG logo, then do what Universal does. The new logo first, and then the original logo after it.

It depends. On Nightmare Before Christmas, they didn't. On Toy Story, where the logo fanfare segued into the movie score, the music wasn't there.
I also like to say that they won't replace the logo on every movie. So far, if I remember correctly, they only did it on movies that got a special theatrical re-release. All of the examples above have been re-released in 3D, so that's why they have the new logos. Movies that didn't have a logo will probably get the new ones as well. If that doesn't happen it'll have the old logo.

I'm pretty sure they gave 101 Dalmatians a theatrical re-release in the 90s and the Platinum Edition had the new CGI logo. Yet, Pinocchio didn't get the new logo, so who knows what Disney's strategy is?

They removed the blue castle music from Beauty and the Beast in favor of the Steamboat Willie whistle. I mentioned in The Lion King thread how hypocritical it was to remove the modern classics' original logos but they go out of their way to reincorporate the RKO logos in the classics. How annoying.

Well...I meant when there was special music over the intros, not just the "wish upon a star" music, which Beauty and the Beast only had, it didn't have any special music. So do they remove the special music? I guess Toy Story did! And the castle was all special too, ugh...

I dislike what Disney did with the logos in these movies:
-The Nightmare Before Christmas. Seeing that Touchstone logo brings me all sorts of nostalgia; especially when you hear the eerie music playing as the blue glides across the bottom of the screen; it's not the same seeing a still "Walt Disney Pictures Presents". There has to be motion. Plus, it's blatantly hypocritical. Oh now you think this movie deserves your name brand because it's made you lots of money and received lots of acclaim as a cult classic? Eh, Disney? Didn't think that way back in '93, did ya?
-Toy Story. *sigh + facepalm*
-Beauty and the Beast. It's really is disappointing that they think just because it was a Disney movie made in the past two decades, they have the right to change the logo we've come to love over so many years.

The only Disney movie I've seen unchanged on blu-ray is James and the Giant Peach. I was surprised to see that untouched. Why can't you do that for all the other re-releases Disney? I mean I love the integration of the 3D castle in Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Race to Witch Mountain, but stop putting them into movies that did not use that opening. Are you gonna desecrate those openings too, when you make your next pretty logo?

i didnt even realise nightmare was a disney movie until i joined this forum.

i didnt even realise nightmare was a disney movie until i joined this forum.

That may in part be becuase originally it wasn't. It was a Touchtone film originally. Disney back in 1993 was afraid parents would not be happy to have the film under the "Disney" banner. Then, after some time and the reality that it's popularity grew, Disney decided to place the "Disney" banner on it finally, thus making it a Disney film in modern times.

On the "More Silly Symphonies" Treasures set, some of the cartoons had the replacement title cards (used for re-distribution) instead of their original title cards (from their initial distribution). In addition, the cartoons were misframed and angled slightly. A replacement program was set up for people who wanted to trade in their faulty discs for a fixed one.

I actually miss those logos. I liked the current logo when it first came out, but now Disney are using them in every movie. It's boring. Why can't they have more creative logos?

In additon take a look at Donald vol 1 and Goofy WDT sets for similar consideration there afwul lots of replacement cards there that are screaming for the set to be re-rerelesed so we can see the original titles of those shorts. (skip that idiot limited run thing though)

But to explain my 30's comment David Gerstein animation historiand mentoned on his blog that he have seen reissue prints of shorts that were orginally distrbuted by Columbia Picture carrying United Artist Pictures logos. and We have similar example on short that should cary United Artist Picture logo but instead carry RKO picture logo short called Funny Little Bunnies that was included on the First Silly Symphonies WDT (Wave 1). So Reissuing/replacing was happening way before Disney had it's own Distributing arm. But keep in mind Disney might not any licence to reuse the name of Columbia/United Artist Pictures/RKO after the deal distribution had ended.

Yes, thank you for that, but like I said, on home video we should get to see the original theatrical versions, with the original logos. And that is what we are complaining about.
