sotiris2006 wrote:Escapay, how come we need to provide a description of the avatar we're nominating and not for the signature too?
In the past, Avatar of the Year and Signature of the Year was a nomination that encompassed all the avatars and/or signatures a nominee used within the year. Members would simply nominate "Joe Bob's Avatar" or "Kelly Angela's Signature" and when the actual nominations came out, it would simply show the most recent avatar/signature for that nominee. Since then, the nomination highlights a specific avatar and signature, even though there's no "provide a description..." blurb for Signature of the year. I should probably amend it to include that blurb. But yes, if possible, also submit a brief description of which signature you're nominating.

ETA: I've edited the first post to include the "provide a brief description" bit now.
sotiris2006 wrote:Also, regarding the Fantasia DVD & Blu-ray thread, which was created on the 31st of May 2009 and continues to be active, will it be considered eligible for a nomination?
No, I'm sorry.
sotiris2006 wrote:I know that you've said the 'Of the Year' means from 6/1/09 - 9/30/10 but it seems unfair for it to be excluded by a few hours when it was one of the most prominent threads of the year...
Even if it's just a few hours, it still falls out of the eligibility period, and I can't make any exceptions.
sotiris2006 wrote:One more thing, is the review for BatB: Diamond Edition which was posted on the 1st of October 2010, eligible or not?
It's not eligible for this year's Awards, but it will be eligible for next year (when the eligibility period is 10/1/2010 to the day before the nomination process begins next year).

Were I to make exceptions for the Fantasia thread and the Beauty and the Beast review, then that would open the floodgates with requests to make exceptions for various other things, such as threads and/or games that were created before the eligibility period, inactive for awhile, then revived and very active during the eligibility process. I can't just include everything, even if they were more active in an eligibility period than in their original creation date. I hope everyone understands that.

Thank you for all the clarifications. :)

Could I ask one more thing? :D I apologise if I'm being annoying

Regarding the avatar and signature of the year, does the same time-frame of eligibility apply? For example, if the avatar or signature I wish to nominate was used by the user before or after that time-frame, then it is not eligible, right? It is hard to keep track when exactly users change their signatures or avatars as very few actually post them in the "Explain you siggy or avatar" threads. Even if there are records in those threads, users may have changed their siggy/avatar long before they actually posted on those threads and the record of the change was made. What happens then?

Also, if a user has been using the same siggy/avatar for years and they're still currently using it, could I still nominate them?

No worries.

Right. It has to be an avatar/signature that was introduced within the eligibility period.

It is a bit hard to keep track of that since the only real record is when someone posts in the "Explain your..." thread. That's usually why most of the nominations in past Awards were for recent avatars/signatures, since they were fresh on the voters' minds and were introduced during the eligibility period. Even if an avatar/signature was used before its introduction in the "Explain your..." thread, the introduction (if made within the eligibility period) is the only proof it was used within the eligibility period, so it's allowed.
sotiris2006 wrote:Also, if a user has been using the same siggy/avatar for years and they're still currently using it, could I still nominate them?
If it's the same avatar/siggy and it hasn't been changed since before the eligibility period, it's not able to be nominated. But if it's a variation that was introduced during the eligibility period and is still in use today, it can be nominated as its introduction was in the eligibility period.

Example:

Joe Bob creates an "Ace of Spades" avatar in 2008. A month ago, he takes his Ace of Spades avatar and updates it to the Ace of Spades: Special Edition. The Special Edition avatar is eligible, but not the original Ace of Spades.

The same can be said for signatures. If Joe Bob has an Ace of Spades signature that he updates during the eligibility period to Ace of Spades: Special Edition, then the Special Edition is eligible.

This Joe Bob character you keep referencing seems truly amazing, Al. Maybe we should nominate him for every category? Is Joe Bob real? Is this real life? I can't wait to meet him. He sounds so fun to be with. I'm sure he's excited that you're using him for all of your examples, Al.

I'll totally be sending in my nominations soon.

Joe Bob is my de facto example person. like how "Happy, the Dancing Elf of Phrooflington" and "Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom" are example movie titles.

But do I get to meet him? That's all I want to do, Al. I want to meet Joe Bob and see if he lives up to all of this prestige that you're saying about him. I want to see if he is as spectacular as you say. I NEED TO KNOW!!

Still workin' on those noms, by the way.

Since my middle name is Robert, I am officially Joe Bob! :p

Okay, my middle name isn't really Robert, I just thought I'd get some quick laughs (you can guess what it is though...it begins with P, which I suppose looks like an R ;)).

Same, same. I've been kinda busy at the moment. Okay, no, I'll confess. I simply haven't sent them in yet mainly because of being lazy. Expect them to come in at 11:58 pm Eastern time on the 8th October . ;)

One last question: what does "best forum idea" mean? I'm a bit confused about this category.

No, you can't meet him. He's a very private person and doesn't like all the attention that I bring to him by constantly referencing him.

Think of him as the J.D. Salinger of fictional internet characters. ;)

I bet your middle name is Pobert. Then you'd be Joe Pob. Close enough.
Goliath wrote:One last question: what does "best forum idea" mean? I'm a bit confused about this category.
It essentially means great ideas regarding the forum. Here's a few nominees from past UD Forum Awards:

Let's Go Retro! - Forum Banner Celebrates Summer Movies of 1989 (Luke)
Merging All Threads with a Similar/Same Topic Into a Single Thread (blackcauldron85)
Creating/Adding the new forums (Luke)
Assigning "Ideal Jobs" to UD Members (2099net)
Creating and Posting the "UD Forum Guidelines & Helpful Links" (The UD Moderators)
The Creation of a Theme Parks Forum (Multiple members)
The Deletion of Registered Spammer Accounts on the Forum (Luke)
The Forum's Toy Story Banner (Luke)
Maintaining a Thread to Keep Track of Missing UD Members (Luke, Timon/Pumbaa fan)

The UD Secret Santa always gets nominated too, but I didn't bother listing it. Essentially they're ideas that help make the forum a better community or ideas that made the forum more memorable in a way (the retro banner) or actions by the UD moderating team that benefited the forum.

Hope that helps!

Sadly, my middle name is not Pobert (as cool as it may sound). And I've defied expectations by sending in my votes ahead of the time I predicted for myself. And for those who haven't yet voted...ah, you know, nod nod, wink wink. ;)

Escapay, for the Poll/Game of the year, is that for the overall game (example- Hurt or Heal), or for an edition of that game (example- Hurt or Heal- Disney Heroines)?

An edition, Scarred. The overall idea for Hurt or Heal came about in 2008, so just nominating it overall wouldn't make it eligible.

Also, thanks so much to everyone who's submitted nominations! I've received all of them, including the ones mentioned here who said they submitted. I've made sure to e-mail back to confirm that I received the nominations, if you haven't received an e-mail from me, let me know.

There's still one day left for those of you who haven't yet submitted nominations. I could use a few tiebreakers in certain categories, so even if you don't make nominations for everything, whatever you do send still counts!

Yeah, I was just using that as an example. Thanks for clearing this up! :)
