I saw the tour twice in Chicago. "Playing the Game" actually uses a lot of the same melody from "Temper Temper" and is still sung by Valentine and the other nursery toys. Feedback from the Broadway show was that the scene was too scary and didn't seem to have a point. Once it was over, they never referenced it again. With "Playing the Game," they added some dialog later in the show where Mary says "Keep playing the games, children."

I haven't seen the show yet but I actually liked "Temper, Temper." Oh well.

So the Temper, Temper song is more of a big-lipped alligator moment?

I have no idea what that means. But in the "Temper Temper" sequence, the children are put on trial and arrested for losing their temper. In "Playing the Game," it takes on a lighter tone about playing nicely and the theme is extended into the rest of the show as far as Jane and Michael's storyline is concerned.

How very Disney like!

Man, now I really wish I had taken the opportunity to see the show before they made that change.

Also "Temper, Temper" made the kiddies cry.

You'd probably understand what a big-lipped alligator moment is after watching the Nostalgia Critic's review on Ferngully: The Last Rainforest

Sorry this is a bit OT, but does anyone else LOVE the song "Anything Can Happen"? I think it's the best new song in the show. I'm glad they haven't cut that from any production of it thus far.

I've maybe listened to "Temper, Temper" once because I never felt like it advanced the plot or was even very interesting. Plus the children are my least favorite characters in the recording, so a song that is virtually only them or at least about them (Again, I've only heard it about once and I sort of skip over it in my mind as well) is of little to no interest to me.

It's my favorite as well. The way the show is, it would fall apart without that song. It's longer in the show and all of the sub-plots are completed within it, with the exception of the Banks' becoming a "normal" family, which happens during the final song. Basically, to remove it would require a lot of reworking of the resolution.

Also, the staging for the last part of "Anything Can Happen" is breathtaking. It was worth seeing the show again for that scene alone.

This sounds so cool! Van Dyke guested in the stage production of "Mary Poppins" during the Los Angeles stopover, playing bank manager Mr Dawes (his "cameo" role from the movie!). The character doesn't actually exist in the stage show but was added back for his special appearance.

How great for him to be able to reprise that role, and what an awesome surprise for the audience! I would have flipped out

I swear I remember reading somewhere about a special D-23 opportunity to see B'way MP then meet for a thirty min. Q and A with the cast and a very special guest, with a hint that was made it very obvious it was Van Dyke.

I didn't know Mr. Dawes wasn't in the play though. I wonder what his cameo consisted of.

Probably a re-tool of his big scene from the film.

With this and Whoopi Goldberg's surprise appearance in The Lion King, it seems Disney's trying to spice up their theatrical experiences. It makes me wonder if they'll do something similar for The Little Mermaid.

Whoopi Goldberg appeared in The Lion King on stage? As who?

From what I've heard, Whoopi made several guest appearances during a performance of "The Lion King" on Broadway. It was a strict one-night-only deal.
