And I like it when people get riled up over some vague scrap of information with no provable legitimacy to it.
Especially when the original topic is nearly a year old.

What a joke. It started out as a prestigious line of 10 best-selling titles, then extended to 14 titles and now even "The Rescuers" is being considered a PE?! And I'm not even talking about other titles rumored as PEs in the last few years.
The line-up should have stayed 10 films. When they added 4 more films, then it became stupid.
And I know the line is supposedly over but it's just annoying. Nothing prestigious about that lineup anymore.
That was a rather mean-spirited post...

How so? I'm a fan of
The Rescuers, but I don't see anything mean-spirited about it. It's not like he trashed the film... and even if he did, who cares? I do it with other films all of the time.

Maybe I chose the wrong word, but I wasn't the only one who thought the post was a little much:

I don't think my post was mean spirited but I do think people here are over-sensitive.
Anyway, what annoys me is that the platinum line was supposed to be made up of the 10 best selling titles. Now, whatever I think about "The Rescuers" is irrelevant because it IS clearly not of their best-selling films, yet Disney would do anything to advertise it under any bombastic title to get more copies sold. And if so, they should just avoid distinguishing between platinum/diamond films and the "regular" ones.

Everyone in general, or just the people who weren't overly thrilled at your reply?

Um... how noble of you, I'm sure. I think there's a huge difference between calling something a "Platinum" / "Diamond" Edition and something stupid like "Most Wanted" or "Mystery in the Mist" Edition (as though more than one movie could be part of this Mystery in the Mist collection they suggest they've got going with that cockamamie title), the same as I gather you do.
But, seriously- getting all bunched up over a simple number... who's
really over-sensitive here? Pinocchio damn well deserves the same lavish title and presentation Snow White and Bambi got, as do Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, and Dumbo. And The Rescuers at least deserves recognition over the lousy re-release editions that Robin Hood, The Aristocats, and Fox and the Hound got.

News of
The Rescuers being a platinum? One of the many consequences of Tangela becoming a member on DVD Aficionado...
rodis wrote:Of-course it is. Everything is "Platinum Edition" at Disney nowadays.
And, erm, the majority of films are treated more like dirt than they ever have been?

Erm, okay...that was nice.
Again, the very idea of
The Rescuers becoming a platinum/diamond was probably made by a fanboy with too much time on his hands and a DVD Aficionado account. It's not real, and it had/has about as much chance of being true as little elves existing at the bottom of our garden. And as for the four films that were added to the platinum line (even though only three came out), aren't
Peter Pan, Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty and
Pinocchio some of the best Disney films? Like, some of the obvious classics? It's not as though they went and made
Cinderella II or
The Black Cauldron platinums. And wouldn't it have been better to get wound up back in 2003 when Disney expanded the line, as opposed to now when it's technically dead and gone? Talk about passive aggressiveness.

Ignoring whatever feud is going on here...
I really hope that The Rescuers gets a anthology-like edition which features both films that are given fair and equitable treatment in a nice collector's set. I dont want these films released separately or slapped in a crammed two-movie disc like the Saludos Amigos/Three Cabelleros DVD.

What if people only want to buy one of the movies? With a set, you leave them no choice. You force them to buy a movie they don't want for a higher price.

Well I didnt really like Fantasia 2000 but I'm willing to buy it if it's gonna be included with Fantasia.
If The Rescuer films are released seperately they wont be treated the same. That I am sure of. Plus I dont see why one person would get one of The Rescuers films but not the other.

I don't care what they call a re-issue of The Rescuers. I just want it to be a well-done restoration in the 1.75:1 theatrical ratio, well-made collection of supplements (commentary, 30-45min documentary, still gallery, trailer, and the "Evolution of a Sequence: The Pirate Cave" found on the Frank & Ollie DVD), and no more bullsh!t games or that crappy Toon Disney "featurette" about villains.

lol, are you a shoemaker?
I was thinking about putting fairies instead of elves in that post, but then I remembered the original
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, where a fairy dies every time somebody says that they don't believe in fairies. As indifferent as I am to the Disney Fairies franchise, I wouldn't want pixie blood on my hands.

Not sure if this is worth bringing the topic back to the top of the list, but I thought I'd share since it was funny...
Last night I had a dream that I was at a store and saw a promotional set-up announcing that "The Rescuers 2 Movie Collection" was coming to Blu-ray/DVD. For whatever reason, I grabbed the display off the shelf and went running with it! I think I was excited to go tell my sister or something, who, oddly enough, doesn't have an interest in Disney.
Anyway, it'd be nice to see this film on Blu-ray eventually, and I wouldn't mind if it came paired with Down Under, especially if that was the only way we'd get the latter on Blu-ray.

"... and they actually had time to do decent animation, unlike BatB."
100% correct. Plus, Joanna and Marahute are wonderful Disney characters.

Now if Disney had announced Robin Hood for Diamond Edition status the mean-spiritedness would have been justifiable.
EDIT: Gaaahh! Don't you feel stupid when you reply to something on the first page without realising there's a second page of posts you've yet to read through!?
