Good idea. I did want to correct myself tho. I went back and looked at the openings of both episodes 1 and 2 and the video is all the same....the only difference is the audio in episode 1. Sorry about my incorrect post.

So the missing audio is more widespread...some people above said they weren't missing the "Zorros" in episode one.

Well, I went to my "Zorro Television Companion" book by Gerry Dooley and found the answer for this.
It said in the first episode's theme song there was a brief instrumental break which was eliminated in subsequent episodes.
So, we are being presented the song in the first episode as it was originally broadcast.
Your welcome,
Skippy

Thanks, Skippy - so how does that explain the people in this thread who aren't hearing the missing Zorros? It isn't an orchestral break. They aren't there. Either many of us have discs with missing lyrics, or some people have complete versions, or (3rd option) we're all talking around each other and nobody is comprehending what the other is talking about.

Rudy Matt, I think your third option is probably most accurate. I suspect that all discs are printed with the missing lyrics. The difference from the other episodes is quite subtle, and those who suggest they don't hear a difference probably aren't noticing the missing lyrics...again, it's a subtle difference, but definitely there.
I don't think anyone has stated with certainty that the song exists on their version of episode one as it does on all the others. Only a small few have stated that they don't notice a difference. Those two statements are not exactly the same thing.
I'll have to go back and listen again to see if skippy's suggestion of an instrumental break in the first episode seems reasonable. It seems reasonable from what I remember hearing, however.

I just emailed the author of "Guy Williams, the man behind the Mask" to see if she could help with any of this confusion.

I just received my Zorro's (fantastic sets by the way!) and checked in on the first episode and the audio is definitely different.
I hadn't read Skippy's post yet, but I straight away thought this wasn't an error on the dvd. The "Zorro" on the first episode sounds very different from the second "Zorro" on the second episode.
I am pretty sure it's something they decided to change after the first episode, so we probably have the original version.

The song changes again and the credits change around the 16th episode again.
According to my book, this is how they were aired.

Thanks for the further confirmation on this issue. I'm going to have to pick up a copy of that book!
I had an inkling all along that it was not a defect in the disc, but instead a matter of how it originally aired.

P.S. - I am on disc 5 for both sets and absolutely on cloud nine in terms of the wonderful job the company has done with the restoration!

It really is a nice companion to read one show synopsis and notes while watching each episode.
I found it a bit pricey and agonized over ordering it, but I'm glad I did.

So what to make of those statements by people on Page 1 of this thread who said the lyrics were there?

I dunno, maybe they are unfamiliar with the song.

The song can be heard as well on the bonus featurette on disc 6. It's the version with the single "Zorro" as in the first episode.

Maybe they're the ones with the error.
