Unfortunately, my will power and the fact we only got 4 sets released here wasn't enough to keep my CC in the wallet.

Even as the owner of all of the sets, I'm tempted to sell my old ones on eBay and get this instead. It seems much more convenient and a real space saver. They had it on display at the D23 Expo. The only thing that holds me back is that it doesn't come with all the bonuses from the original releases, like the little posters or bonus things, like the button and Disneyland ticket book. So I am resisting. I wonder how long it will take for all 3,000 to sell, since D23 members are the types who would have been collecting these all along.

But D23 members also seem the type who will rebuy something many times. Maybe not quite Reyquila levels of mindless consumerism, but I imagine Disney isn't going to have too much trouble unloading these.

The Delux Set is convenient I guess... but I think the space the Tins take up is worth it. I mean.....its a very unique and high quality presentation AND like you said the original sets come with the bonus artwork etc. Also it looks like the delux sets discs are in sleeves? Well in my experience using sleeves for CDs.....CDs seem to get scratched and finger marked more using the sleeves then the jewel cases. Besides the fact all the volumes arent included....this set is very easy for me to pass up.

So out of curiosity, are there still copies left for sale on the site? It doesn't say one way or another but I'm willing to put the money for the set + D23 membership just for this box set alone. Yeah, I'm crazy.

Does anyone have a pic of the winter finale costumes worn by Annette Funicello and Tommy Sands in "Babes in Toyland"? I believe these were also on show at the D23 expo.

Well...since since tomorrow is Monday...my advice to you would be give the D23 a call or contact Disney Customer service and perhaps they would know the quantities left of the set... I would think it would say sold out when all the pre-orders taken are sold out but I could be wrong....

So My advice would be to call Disney Customer Service when they open to ask them for sure...

Do any other props and costumes survive from "Babes in Toyland"?

It's wonderful to see these pieces (does Annette know about them being on display?). So many classic costumes from other studios were sold/auctioned off years ago, never to be heard from again...

I'm sure there are many more props and costumes in the Disney archives from Babes in Toyland, but I have no idea what else they have. While Disney never did any big auctions the way MGM and Warner did, it's hard to know what has survived the years and the lack of an archive at the time the film was made.

When I met Dave Smith, he told me a story of when he first started archiving props and costumes. One thing he had been looking for that he absolutely couldn't find was the snowglobe that Julie Andrews held during "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. He assumed it had been destroyed or taken during production. A few years later, he was called into somebody's office at the studio and he noticed a snow globe on their shelf of the British Bank that Mr. Banks worked at. The person didn't even know that it was the snow globe from Mary Poppins, but they found it sitting on top of a trash can at the studio years earlier and rescued it because it was pretty. So there unless Disney releases a list of exactly what they have, we may never know what else survived from Babes in Toyland.

Oh my goodness! To think that precious piece of movie history almost ended up smashed in the garbage! I'm sure even Julie would love to have it sitting on her bookshelf...

I heard a similar story about the white gown which Audrey Hepburn wears in the Embassy Ball scene of 'My Fair Lady', one of the most desirable and requested costume pieces from that film. It was last seen lying on a pile of garbage awaiting collection...

That's a pretty swell idea. One would think that they would update the page stating that it's sold out but you would be surprised. Here's hoping between now and Thursday nothing changes; I desperately want this set.

In my experience, disneyshopping.com is incredible with updating their page the second anything is sold out. I wouldn't suggest waiting long periods of time to sign up and get it if you want it, but the fact that they still let you order it means they still have it.

Done. Originally I was told that even if I purchased the D23 membership, I wouldn't have the charter membership # to order for 7-10 business days unless I talked to them on Wednesday. OK, I went ahead and purchased the membership anyways and low and behold I have the membership # and I can order the box set.

It's mine. It's awesome! I can't wait until next month!!!
