While they look great, I'm 99% sure they are fake. Disney stopped the THX branding on their covers a while ago, it has nothing about Disney Movie Rewards, and it doesn't have the "Walt Disney Pictures" image on the back cover. And lastly, Disney doesn't usually release images like this that display both the front and back cover art. I think this was a very talented person having fun with Photo Shop.

I love looking at fan made art even if they aren't the real ones. :)

Anyhow, the dub was okay. Some lines I really love weren't executed well. Such as Sosuke seeing Ponyo for the first time in girl form, I love that he whispers "Ponyo?" rather than yell like the dub. Then his ending line "Whether she's a fish or a human, I will still like her" turned into a mess in the dub version. But other than that, LOVED Tina Fey and Liam Neeson!

It was great to finally see how beautiful the whole film is and not having to resort to a theater taping in Japan!

I might get CitS.

I found out too late I had bought a bootleg box set of the Ghibli films.

It was one of my first e-Bay purchases.

Didn't know that they didn't have a legitimate U.S. release that had 7 Ghibli films (Fireflies, Rosso, Kiki, Spirited, Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Mononoke) in one set.

So, if there's a new transfer or cool special features, I'll get it!

The bootleg looks really good transfer-wise, but I feel kind of dirty owning it, and found out it was a bootleg too late to return it. :P

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune regarding the bootleg, Neal.

As for the special editions, I agree with the plans for CitS, since there was a bonus feature you could only access (on the original Disney release) via a DVD-ROM drive.

It was a Japanese-only (no subtitles) featurette on the making of CitS. For this new version, Disney should put dubbing or subtitles on it and make it an accessible feature.

I'll look it up on my copy tonight and give you the instructions on how to find it on your copies tomorrow.

If they really wanted to make us American Ghibli fans happy, then Disney should release "Only Yesterday," IMHO. I mean, check my bleeping signature, for crying out loud!

 Sorry. When the subject of "Only Yesterday" comes up, I can get really passionate.

 I should've seen that. Nice find!

Since there is no dedicated Castle in the Sky discussion thread, I figured this is an appropriate spot to chime in with a few thoughts on the movie.

I consider CitS a five star movie. It has a great set of characters, excellent music, and some dazzling visuals in a wild roller coaster of a plot. Some of the scenes reminded me of various parts of Professor Layton, Final Fantasy, and Super Mario Galaxy.

It's hard for me to formulate my thoughts too much on this movie. I can say that it gets my highest recommendation for anyone, whether they are young, old, Western, Eastern, or anything in between.

I'm excited for all of Miyazaki's work on Blu

Hopefully they expand on the extras as the Japanese releases have more extras then you can imagine and we have barely any. As far as my favorites of his goes, I feel he got better with age, going up in quality all the way to Spirited Away, and then plateauing (the exact opposite of M. Night Shyamalan).

Kiki's Delivery Service: 2/5

Kiki's is not that different from any other coming-of-age story. It happens to feature a witch, but otherwise, it's the standard story of a young person finding themselves. There's nothing in the movie that I would call bad or objectionable, but there's also little I can point to that stands out as a great scene or character moment. Osono and the two old ladies from the pie-baking episode are my favorite supporting characters.

I'm extremely disappointed that Kiki's Delivery Service will not be re-released. I was most looking forward to this set. That's my favorite Ghibli film.
All I want to know is why? Can someone tell me?

Isn't Hocus Pocus scheduled for a new DVD next year? If so, maybe Kiki will be re-released with it!

I know. Wishful thinking. Disney likes releasing the Ghibli films at least three per a wave.

Thank goodness.
It looks like Kiki, along with the other three originally planned for release, will all be back on track to get new releases put out on shelves. :D

Very good news.

Ugh, why aren't there also blu-ray releases for My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service? Is it because they have not been released on blu-ray over in Japan, so it is unfair for us to get such treatment? :(

I guess. I mean, they'd probably have to remaster all three to get decent blu releases.

Probably. And for cost reasons, Disney might as well wait for Studio Ghibli to remaster their films in HD and then they can use those transfers on the U.S. releases. All they would have to remaster would be the English language intros and closing credits.

Good point! It also sounds better to wait because we all won't get unique restorations. Cause what I learned from restoring the old Disney films, there are a LOT of variations and can look like anything.

Well for some reason only Ponyo is getting the Blu Ray treatment. Which makes no sense to me if all four films are getting released at the same time. I think it's only a Region 1 Disney thing to market on Ponyo's release and success of Ponyo in the US by selling that on Blu Ray and not the others.

You gotta seriously wonder what the hell is going on in the head of those marketers who come up with these ridiculous messed up DVD release tactics?

The only Ghibli film that Disney has done there own transfer for is Mononoke and the only reason they did that one was because Studio Ghibli had not entered the DVD market yet. The reason Disney is only giving Ponyo a Blu ray release is because Studio Ghibli has not released any of the other films on Blu ray in Japan yet.

I think another reason Disney has not released Princess Mononoke in their Studio Ghibli collection because of how violent it is.

I will still get Ponyo and KiKi's Delivery Service on DVD when they come out (I bought the old DVD of Castle in the Sky a while back).

Just uploaded the trailer for Ponyo in HD. I always felt this home video trailer was a million times better then the theatrical one (except the logo in this trailer, don't like it). The music really moves you and the lack of narrator and terrible movie sound bites ups the quality. Maybe if they made this the theatrical trailer it would've attracted more movie goers.
