I'm definitely going to be buying this as I don't own it yet - either on DVD or VHS. I was glad I learned about this re-release before I bought the Gold Collection DVD. I was days too late discovering the 101 Dalmatians II re-release, which made me angry. Same with Lilo & Stitch. This time, though, I lucked out!

I've never seen Pete's Dragon but I have always loved the Helen Reddy song A Candle On The Water so I may well buy this movie . I wonder if Helen Reddy will have recorded a commentary as I know that she had fallen out with Disney after the movie was made as apparently she refused to take part in any post movie publicity!

I might purchase this as a gift, but I won't double dip for myself as it doesn't include an interview with Mickey Rooney. And I'd want a digital copy for my iPod.

(Yes, I actually *use* the digital copies I have. On my recent trip to Disney World, on the plane trip back home, my niece watched part of 'Bolt' on the plane via my iPod).

For the high profile release
Pete's Dragon/ Bedknobs and Broomsticks
or
Pete's Dragon/So Dear To My Heart (I've never seen this film, so I'd buy it in a heartbeat)
We can scratch Mary Poppins cause she just recently got a re-release. As for the Song Of The South, I can see Disney actualy consider releasin it but not as a summer dvd, maybe it'd show up round the release of Princess/Frog's theather run. Since it'd make more sense as a market stragety.

I was thinking the high profile release was gonna be HM the movie. unless that already has a release date?

Look at some of the earlier posts on this discussion.

Guys... I'm not sure any of the older movies qualify as a "high profile release", unless they get two disc sets, but that doesn't seem very likely.

My guess is given the stupid name, "High Flying Edition", that the release it will coincide with is "Up".

Sorry for the post skip post.. (Almost as bad as a double post)
But I don't know if that's really plausible, either. The movie comes out almost in June, it would be a little bit premature to release it two months later.
Still, I'm stumped. I can't think of any new release (besides Hannah Montana) that could go alongside this movie. I want to say it's a 2-disc release we haven't even thought of...

I was looking forward to a Blu-ray but I never picked up the last one so this will be a definately buy. Hope they fix the aspect ratio too.

I'm excited for this, I haven't seen this movie since the first VHS was released. I was hoping for a Blu-Ray release, but this DVD will have to do. I haven't seen this film in years, and to be honest I remember nothing about it. So I'm looking forward to this release.
I think the "High Profile Release" is going to be
Bedknobs and Broomsticks . If you go to it's page on Disney.com, it says "Special Edition Coming Soon". Take a look:

I really hate it when they give DVD rereleases stupid names instead of just "Special Edition". I will not get this as I have never seen it.

I will get this when it comes out since I don't have it on dvd. I don't remember a whole lot about this movie though it has been a good 12 years since I have last seen this movie.

Actually, the HD battle involved a hell of a lot more bloodshed. Trolls and war propaganda were everywhere.
Anyway, I haven't seen this film. All this talk makes me wanna buy it, though.

First off I'm glad to hear that there is going to be a release after all. Second I hate the "High Flying Edition" banner. Third this release could use some more special features. Fourth can't wait for Bedknobs And Broomsticks.

It could coincide with the debut of DisneyNature's Earth on DVD and probable blu ray....other than that I can't think of one..besides as mentioned Hannah Montanna
I do hope it's bedknobs and broomsticks....that would/will be cool whenever it comes out...although I hope if its a 2-disc its not a digital copy that makes it a two disc...

though I do redeem them for Itunes via my Laptop computer.....they are handy....though like I said they could still have room for bonus features on the disc as well since WB somehow figured how to put bonus features and the application for the digital disc copy on the same disc ....so that way the 2nd disc isn't used either as a frisbee for my dog or a paper weight......or a saucer for my drinks...
Hey someone should make a thread on thread on how many differ possible ways you could use your digital disc once you downloaded them and they are useless

Well, this is one rerelease I will be double-dipping for, even if it is not Blu, as I did for Lilo and Stitch. I didn't double dip for some others because their rereleases weren't much better than the previous releases (though if I ever find them cheap enough I might), so I figured I'd hold out for blu on them. Still, it would be nice for us Blu buyers if this was also getting a Blu release because we want this better edition but hate knowing that we will buy it yet again when it is released on Blu... so I think that's where the annoyance comes from, though people don't need to get all out angry about it.
Anywho, what I'm surprised about is that so many think Bedknobs and Broomsticks or So Dear to My Heart would be High Profile releases. I don't see how they would be higher profile than Pete's Dragon, which is why I doubt they are the one being spoken of. I suspect high profile would be something new, something from PIXAR (when does Monsters Inc. get rereleased with its blu-ray?), or an animated classic.
As for selling my Gold Collection DVD or giving it to my sister (that'd be more likely I guess), I won't unless this new one has all the extras of the old one, or at least the extras I care most about. Wouldn't want to lose, say, that great featurette hosted by the Loch Ness monster!

I hope it's Bedknobs and Broomsticks as well. I have so many childhood memories of watching it and I would love a new special edition of it.

I'm really excited for this! I've only seen the movie once when I was younger, but I remember really liking it. Hopefully the new release will be something worthwhile.

You don't like to visit Disney movies you've never seen? It's such a wonderful movie- I think a bunch of us here would recommend it! The music is amazing, and the story is really nice, and there are some great characters!
