Remember how we heard about movies like Hunchback and The Rescuers going Platinum? I'm thinking this is why.
Diamond Edition = Blu Ray... err... Blu Ray Combo Pack
Platinum Edition = DVD
It wouldn't surprise me to soon see Platinum Editions as 1 Disc DVD + Digital Copy if this is the case.
Sad.

I personally think its a great change. Most platinums nowadays can be fit in one disc anyway, and I'd rather that than have to change disc every times. Plus the platinum line was never really that prestigious where I live (I think we started at The Jungle Book - everything before it were "special editions").
My only problem is I really dislike Hunchback and don't want to see it on the same league as Sleeping Beauty

If they ONLY release the Blu-Ray, with a bonus DVD of the movie, they almost force people to buy the BR, and then they can say "Whee, our Blu-Ray sales are really climbing!"
Plus, if a consumer bought the combo pack, they might get tired of just watching the normal DVD, and want to see some of those fancy new special features, so they'd eventually have to go out and buy a Blu-Ray player.
That's a great idea !
So long DVD.
Actually, I think that is sort of the direction they are trying to head, without actually forcing people to buy the Blu-ray.
The DVD releases are quickly getting weaker and weaker, while the Blu-ray releases are staying strong and getting more attention.
I'd be willing to bet that if this Blu-ray combo pack of Snow White sells well before the DVD release date, that we will be seeing a lot less of DVD in the future !
All of the animated classics have been released on DVD...
It's time to move on.

No. Not at all. It's a bad idea.

First off I am a Blu-ray owner, But I hate this kind of mentality. DVD is still a perfectly fine home video format. Sure Blu-ray is the future and it’s somewhat better than DVD but that doesn’t mean we can just shaft DVD. Do you throw away all of your clothes just because you can buy some better ones. Remember not everything is being released on Blu-ray and Blu-ray players still play DVDs which means were still going to bee seeing DVD for a while. Also incase you people haven’t noticed were in the middle of economic recession and I don’t think its fair for Disney to be pushing a extremely costly format on us. I just hate if when Blu-ray fan boys like JDCB1986 undermine DVD with comments like the one above.
ohhh and yukitora I believe every animated feature should be treated the same even the ones you dislike.

wow. this is rlly sad news. i mean like i rlly lked the platinum edtions.

and now theyve gon and compltley scrwed it up by makin it diamond. frstly ppl will thnk that its called a diamond editoin due to the fact that the dwrfs wrok in a mine!!! but thn when fantisia and beauty and tb beast (i love that movie

)come out, thyll get confuzed! secondlie, a dvd whn turned round loks mre platinem than diamond. i mean, like, u dnt put a dvd on your fiancee's finga! the fact that the twighlight dvd (edward cullen

) usez the same dvd cover format as the platinums (aka main characters, then title, then more charactefs) sayz that platinum was better than diamond. disney rlly need to know theyre ratyer dull. as someone witha phd in english litterature and langwij, i think that disney can be so unculturable as of lateley.
As usual, I'm joshin' with y'all. d-: And I have to say that I don't have a PhD, nor do I give a damn about what Disney calls their animated films on DVD/Blu-Ray any more (well, unless they decide to rename the actual films with stupid titles i.e. Pinocchio becomes A Miracle in Italy or Cinderella becomes You Look So Gorgeous).

Ok, to get slightly off-topic here . . . the should call them
black diamond editions and use the old VHS covers for the case art.
Or would people say that was racist if
The Princess and the Frog ever got released as one?

Disney just loves the fancy titles. I would be happy with a very well bonus feature packed Little Mermaid blu-ray release. One that is par with the Platinum Edition of Snow White.
They could call it whatever the hell they wanted, I could care less about the title. I just want BONUS FEATURES!!!

Or better yet, the Platinum of Aladdin. By far the best bonus features of any of them.

So we've seen Masterpiece, Gold, Platinum. What'you think they'll name the next collection? There's still crystal, bronze, silver, sterling silver($100 each), and Mastalonzeroltinum.

Are you sure you're a Blu-Ray owner? Because any Blu-Ray owner can tell you, Blu-Ray plays all of your old DVDs, so you only need to double dip if you want to. No one is asking anyone to throw away all their discs.
And somehwat better than DVD?
I ask again...are you sure you're a Blu-Ray owner? Cause your post sounds just like anti-Blu seminar caller misinformation.

Try reading their entire post next time. They did say Blu-ray players can play DVDs. Besides, they can still be a Blu-ray owner and dislike how Disney is pushing it on everyone at what they said is an inappropriate time for reasons they already said. They are being a rational Blu-ray owner and they were criticizing the behaviors and beliefs of irrational ones. They were right. It's a bad mentality. It's not unusual for a Blu-ray owner to actually be rational.

Why stop there? Couldn't we just as easily have linoleum, Velcro, or medium-density fiberboard editions?
The possibilities are endless. They can keep repackaging materials with only tiny changes and sell them to an eager public willing to buy them again and again.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I don't think that these 'Diamond' editions will be that much different from the way they do the Platinum Editions. They just feel like they can't release 2 different editions of a movie with different transfers and different bonus features with the same name.
And even if you don't like the words 'Diamond Edition', I've heard much worse. Ferris Bueller was released as the Bueller Bueller Edition and The Wedding Singer was released as The Super Cool Edition. How dumb does that sound.

my guesses for these diamond editions:
1: All Platinum Editions when re-released will be known as Diamond Editions
2. The crown jewels of crown jewels of disney titles are getting this diamond treatment and the others will still be known as platinum titles aka all newly introduced platinum titles...(sleeping beauty, pinocchio, fantasia...etc.)
3. All Platinum titles from now on will be known as Diamond Editions
4. Maybe the "Platinum" line has been extended to 20 or so and then the top 10 selling Platinum titles are now becoming Diamond?

I suppose it was only natural to come up with a new line-title for the latest format. I wonder if they'll stick with "Diamond" until the next format war.
