Not a good example. I hear Warner intentionally altered TDK's DVD picture quality to make the blu-ray look even better.

Now, to answer my own worries, Return of the King Extended Edition has two hours per disc, both Dolby and DTS audio, and four running commentaries and still has good picture. There's a better example for you.

Now, I've completely reassured myself that this might be a good release. All I really needed was the runtimes for the films.

That's because A Bug's Life was first authored in 1999, when DVD was still in its early years and MPEG compression wasn't as good as it is now. So fitting a 98-minute movie twice on a disc was sure to have compression issues.

For another Disney comparison, look at the two releases for Sleeping Beauty. The 2003 DVD had the widescreen and fullscreen version on one disc (150 minutes altogether), and the 2008 DVD had the widescreen version (75 minutes) and several bonus programs (Grand Canyon - 29 minutes, The Peter Tchaikovsky Story - 50 minutes, Emily Osment's Music Video - 3.3 minutes). Compression on the 2008 DVD is better than the 2003 DVD even though there's more video content on the disc. And that's not even taking into consideration the sneak peek trailers, the Disney Song Selection, the menu animation, etc.

So I'm sure Disney can easily have the two Goofy films (154 minutes) share a disc with the extras (a 48-minute "Disneyland" episode, a 22-minute "Goof Troop" episode, and other minor things) without compression being as major a problem as it was 10 years ago.

Well, 1.85:1 was the theatrical aspect ratio. The full negative aspect ratio is 1.66:1.

NO wonder many films are appearing that way.

The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray doesn't look that good either, so even if Warner did that (although I highly doubt it) they might as well made both into a good looking version of the film. The Blu-Ray would still look better

ROTK doesn't have the best looking picture. Compression really made the PQ suffer a bit.

I like this film, although i haven't seen it recently

Has anyone heard anything new about the 2-Pack or seen anymore ads?

Well, My expectations aren't particularly high for superhero movies. Most of them fall a little short of reference quality. But TDK still looks quite good to me, just not as good as most of the Disney blu-rays.

I haven't watched that in a few months. I'm watching two towers, so I'll get around to it. Both FOTR and TTT look rather soft, so I wouldn't be surprised.

The cover art is simply Goofy's head with "Goofy Movie Collection" and the ratings. I'm guessing that there's still no word on the US release of the double pack?

I may be wrong, but I have a bad feeling that Disney is simply repackaging the currently available dvds of both films because of two reasons: If Disney was releasing two new dvds of the films, then I'm sure they would've made an announcement under the "Coming Soon" section on disneydvd.com, which they haven't. Also, if two new dvds are on the way, then why hasn't Disney pulled both films off the market already? Like I said, I may be wrong, but I sure hope I am.

And the image of Goofy's face isn't even new. It's the same image from the old Goofy shorts.
