What a wonderful idea. To save space, I'll just list my dream programming from 3PM on.

I honestly believe that instead of spending a ton of money producing new shows, that Disney could still produce new shows while mixing it in with vintage programming of the same calibur. This would double the amount of program time needed for half the cost!

Also, I like how The Disney Channel used to have themed nights. Tuesday night was always "American Legacy" night, Thursday night was "Bonus!" night airing lots of teen programming, and Sunday night was usually some sort of event like a serious documentary program, premiere of dramatic family film, etc. I would probably re-introduced themed nights. It gives kids an opportunity to know exactly when new episodes of shows will be on and also targets specific demographics with each theme.

For example this could be a typical weekday:

Monday: Adventure Day

3:00PM - Disney's Bill Nye the Science Guy (new episodes)
3:30PM - The Edison Twins
4:00PM - Wizards of Waverly Place (new episodes)
4:30PM - Flash Forward
5:00PM - Avonlea
6:00PM - DCOM The Thirteenth Year
7:30PM - Zorro
8:00PM - MOVIE Swiss Family Robinson
10:00PM - SPECIAL Swiss Family Robinson: "Adventure in the Making"
11:00PM - MOVIE Kidnapped

Disney could have a solid night of programming and they would only have to produce 2 half hour television shows.

I also agree that The Disney Channel should revive "The Magical World of Disney" and air it Sunday nights on The Disney Channel. It would certainly be an improvement over todays programming on The Disney Channel sunday nights....even if they just started back at the beginning and aired them all over again! But I think that they could do "World Television Premiere" events on The Magical World of Disney the way they used to.

For example, this could be a typical month's line-up for the anthology series:

The Magical World of Disney: Tom and Huck
The Magical World of Disney: Enchanted (World Television Premiere)
The Magical World of Disney: The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band
The Magical World of Disney: The Illustrious Blu Fairy: The Making of Pinocchio (newly produced documentary to coincide and cross promote the Platinum release of the film on Blu-ray and DVD. This special could also emphasize the benefits of the new technology with the Blu ray format and be a demonstration to the people at home. Walt would totally have done something like this)

What I wouldn't give to shake things up at Disney. The people making decisions about DVD releases and television programming seem to be so out of touch with Disney fans that they are "watering down" the Disney brand to a mear boy band. To quote Dream on Silly Dreamer, "You have the London Philharmonic at your disposal and you are trying to turn it into a boy band".

LISTEN UP DISNEY! Boy bands are out!

I think the only reason they got rid of "magical world of Disney" was because it was too much like "Wonderful World of Disney" And I think I actually DO remember seeing some Disney Channel in the late '90s. I dont know if we had it(might've), but it became a basic cable service sometime around 2001-02.

Bill Nye, WOOT! :pink: :pink: :pink:

Though the only way I saw those was on tape during classes and such. I wish they still aired it! That show was awesome! (And anyone notice all Disney did was stick their name all over the existing theme song for the DVD releases? :/)

*sigh* There was so much variety in the old programming lineups. I miss them so much! I used to get up and do Mousercise, watch Under the Umbrella Tree, Adventures in Wonderland, Pooh Corner and Dumbo's circus all the time. I'd be watching it everyday if it was even half as good as it was back then. I too remember the "Free previews" I think I only had it once when I was growing up other than those. When we had the previews around the holidays and stuff I'd always tape the cool shows off TV. (by the way, if anyone has anything at all they recorded off the old disney channel, and would be willing to trade or something, please PM me!! I'm an avid collector of Disney specials and recorded tv programs :) )

Yeah, I remember that show more vividly than most, if not all of the others. Especially the space one.

The Magical World of Disney was a continuation of the anthology series. It did switch to The Disney Channel in the early 1990s. It ended around 1996 or 1997. The Wonderful World of Disney returned the anthology series to the air in late 1997, except this was on network television (Disney now owned ABC). So what used to be a venue for classic Disney became a television show full of new movies (which weren't incredibly awful). The Magical World of Disney and The Wonderful World of Disney never aired at the same time.

I miss watching House of Mouse. That was a neat series of toons, with plenty of references/links to some of the original, classic cartoons from '30s - '50s. Hey since we are in wishing mode: 1) create a new series of House of Mouse ; 2) how about the DVD release of the first series Disney; and 3) never show "That's so Raven again"!!

Well, maybe we will get two out of three.

Huh, I guess my memory's been fooling me. I remember Mulan was on "Wonderful" in 2000, and I remember some airings from the "magical" era of the program. Either way, I guess Disney was better back then, even though I was too young to remember most of it until this topic.

You can set your DVR to record it on Toon Disney (or at least you could before it became Disney XD[for lack of an original name])

This may sound totally stupid, but I just realized that Disney "XD" is sort of a play on 733T speak. As opposed to the semi colon and parentheses making up a smiley face, it is an x and a d making up a super smiley face (i.e. wincing and grinning).

XD

Am I reading way to much into this, or did I just stumble on something that everyone already knew.......

I've seen that before on other forums that don't use smileys. I think it's supposed to be a laughing smiley.

I really miss the variety of their programming. There were so many awesome specials and movies, some which became beloved classics.

When I was watching Toon Disn- er, Disney XD last weekend, my roommate asked if it stood for "eXtreme Disney". I had always thought it was the XD emoticon too, but "eXtreme Disney" is interesting, even if it's only like a backronym.

Yeah, XD is an emoticon. I use it quite often. But it's funny, there was a "Pokémon XD" several years ago, Disney XD is not the first thing to use the name.

As well as those old-schoolers/Linux fanboys who think "XP" is a face and not an operating system

Regardless I liked Toon Disney. I'm glad they're showing vintage stuff like Even Stevens again but mad at them getting rid of good cartoons like Recess and showing an unneeded amount of <strike>waste-of time shows</strike>Zack and Cody and Phineas and Ferb...

Actually, Disney XD stands for eXtreme Digital. They were only using the name for the media on their website a year ago.

As for the Tonn Disney 'toons. I agree with you. I'd like to see more Buzz Lightyear and Timon and Pumbaa than stuff I could already find on Disney Channel 5 times a day.

To be honest, I prefer todays schedules than the ones back then.

I grew up with nickelodeon cartoons rather than disney (although I did watch The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Aladdin series, The Little Mermaid series) and I don't that much for those films listed.

I know what the XD stands for... I'm just pointing out they're not the first product to use that abbreviation.

And you know what's funny? I have analog cable but yet I'm getting an "extreme digital" channel

I almost forgot about the Buzz Lightyear series... that show was awesome too! I have the "pilot" on DVD - the one when they actually used Tim Allen's voice as Buzz. (And I believe, they split it up into three episodes and redubbed Buzz for the TV series)

I never actually started watching Disney channel (because it was never on my cable) until the summer of '06 (the summer I graduated) pretty much juuust before Hannah Montana became really popular.

So anyway, I personally like all those shows; Hannah Montana, Suite Life, Phil of the Future, That's So Raven, Wizards of Waverly Place. Honestly, I don't know what everyone has against them. :P

I have nothing against Wizards, its an okay show. Its just when the only shows they play for hours on end on the weekend is the same shows over and over. One week I believe they played the same episode TWICE of HM, and I'm not talking 6:00 PM and 10:30 PM, I'm talking 6:00 two days the same week.

I get annoyed because they moved Kim Possible and Replacements to insane hours of 1 AM and 1:30 AM. Disney: Who is awake at that hour?

They also air marathons of their annoying DCOM, but won't DISNEY movies that were made by Walt Disney Studios when Walt was ALIVE........

So you got the converter box, already? That makes you smarter than about 6 million ppl.

I had it on VHS, and forgot that they did that until I saw the review on ultimatedisney. I would watch the cartoon, if it were still on Disney channel at bedtime/midnight. Now I can't find it anywhere. What to do to watch something without the need for youtube?[/b]
