I'm kinda tired of the Power Rangers franchise....I mean come on it's the same plot every season (17 seasons) and I'll admit that I enjoy the "Team Up" epsiodes but enough's enough.

cool thanks! i didn't know they were still creating new music. just went to the site and i tunes to preview the music - and i must say that my past tweeny bopper self is happy that i'm listening to their music again.

oh, and i agree that Power Ranges needs to stop. The only "decent" seasons are the ones w/ the original cast, and maybe the subsequent season w/ Rocky, Adam, and Aisha...other than that, it got old really fast

The only good "Power Rangers" season was "Power Rangers In Space".

Anyway, regarding spin-offs I like and stuff, I always felt "Melrose Place" was cooler than "90210" though I saw more of "90210" than "Melrose Place". And ruddy SoapNet removed their MP broadcasts, so I can't watch it there anymore (though I did watch it on Style when they broadcast it in 2003/2004). I haven't gotten around to collecting any seasons on DVD beyond Season 1 (cause that was on sale for like, $15.99 or something), but I plan to once the whole series is out (they're about to release Season 5, Volume 1, I believe).

"Doctor Who" has two spin-offs, "Torchwood" and "The Sarah Jane Adventures". Both are as awesome as its parent show.

"Star Trek" has had plenty of spin-offs, all with their good and bad points. My favourite is a tie between "The Next Generation" and "Voyager", depending on the season (for example, I'll take Season 4 of "Voyager" over Season 2 of "The Next Generation" any day of the week, but Seasons 4 and 5 of "The Next Generation" trumps every season of "Voyager").

Well, there's that other form of spin-off happening nowadays, direct-to-video. This is what happened with Garfield, for example, with awful CGI releases. And the Chipmunks have a new album out.

As for some important revivals that come to mind for me, I was very disappointed in the attempt at reviving Kolchak the Night Stalker. All wrong, in my opinion, and just an attempt to copy X-Files but with no chemistry or engaging stories. Then, there's Dark Shadows, another obsession of mine. I LOVED the '90's revamp. It was so wrong the way they canceled it, and on a cliffhanger! And too bad the 2005 one never got picked up.

Now, what do folks here think of the Clone Wars animated series and the latest take on Batman?

And, personally, I was thinking they should revisit the Powerpuff Girls at a later stage in their lives with a new show!

I could be wrong, but in the case of "Good Morning Miss Bliss" and "The Torkelsons: Almost Home", weren't those closer to "reimaginings" for the sake of keeping those shows alive? Like when they changed Batman the Animated series up a bit or when Charles In Charge got a new family? I mean, rather than actual spin-offs, weren't they just reworkings and name changes because the shows were floundering? Another show from the '80's comes to mind that was taken over by Sandy Duncan, but I forget what it was called (even though I liked it at the time... was it The Hogans?).

Not counting reimaginings as the same thing, I wonder which show had the most spin-offs? Maybe Happy Days? (Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi? Is that how Chachi is spelled?).

Well "The Torkelsons: Almost Home" is a legitimate spin-off as they simply reduced the number of kids (IIRC, the excuse was they wanted to live with the father who suddenly came back, and so the mom and other 3 kids went off to go elsewhere...).

But I really don't consider "Saved by the Bell" to be a spin-off of "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" and agree that it's more a "reimagining". It simply retained certain characters (Zack, Screech, Lisa, Mr. Belding) and sets, but redid their origins. "Miss Bliss" took place in a junior high (not named Bayside) in the very real Indianapolis, whereas "Saved by the Bell" is a high school (named Bayside) in fictional Palisades, California. Plus, IIRC, in "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" Zack gets concerned when his father starts dating "Miss Bliss", whereas in "Saved by the Bell" his parents are still married. Still, it's nice to think that the stories were some of the "early adventures" for Zack, Screech, and Lisa, even if the setting, history, and other situations are different.

Also, the show you're thinking about s2m is "Valerie". It started off as a sitcom centred around Valerie Harper (best known as Rhoda on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Rhoda"), but she left after the second season (creative differences with the producers), and they killed off her character and introduced the husband's sister (Sandy Duncan's character) at the start of the third season. It was then titled "Valerie's Family: The Hogans" and eventually "The Hogan Family". I haven't seen the show in years. I think the last time I saw it on TV was on PAX (before it became ION).

Finally, I, uh...liked the new "Night Stalker". I agree it could have been better, but I liked it for what it was: a new take on a classic TV character. Also love "Dark Shadows". Burton & Depp better hurry up with their movie version, if only so Warner can finally release House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows (Director's Cut, hopefully) on DVD as the tie-in. And let the DVD include the 2004 pilot too!

The complete classic series (1966-1971) is on DVD now, though I certainly don't have the $$$ to buy them all, though I wish I could.

Yes, I want the classic Dark Shadows series DVDs too, but I haven't even dared to start trying! Was very happy to get the '90's version at Target bundled with Dark Angel season 1 for only 19.99 last year though! Even if it IS matted into widescreen. *grumble* It's still better than my VHS recordings were. Yeah, I look forward to the Depp/Burton version, and I hope it is more than one film and doesn't make Barnabas just a villain like in House of Dark Shadows. I so want those two movies on DVD too, and don't you think the names should have been reversed? That is, if I remember correctly which is which.

Yeah, the matting annoys me too. Of course, the actual transfer isn't that great either (some day-for-night shots didn't get filtered to look like night, IIRC). AND it's missing the deleted scenes that MPI re-inserted on the VHS releases. The fact that it's extras-less (no commentaries, no documentaries...) is also annoying for me too.

House of Dark Shadows is the condensed version of the Barnabus story, ending in his death. I don't think there are any deleted scenes for it, though there certainly is for Night of Dark Shadows, as the mess of a story that ended up in theatres was cut down by about 35 minutes (the studio gave Dan Curtis a mere 24 hours to cut down the film). I remember reading articles when they rediscovered the pre-release version somewhere in archives, and have been working on restoring the film to the original length. One of the problems, IIRC, was that the dialogue soundtrack was lost (I think) and those portions would have to be redubbed in.

Never thought of Mmbop bein the theme song for the 90s *chuckles* I always had Spice Girls define the 90s *chuckles* As for Power Rangers, I didn't have a fav. season, but I recall being a fan of Tommy's Ranger (Green/White) for some odd reason I thought Tommy was the best Power Ranger. I agree bout the new CGI Garfield dvds too, his look was dead on yet the characters seemed stiff. I like Garfield's 2D form and his live action form.

I think I'm used to my favorite TV show DVD releases being extra-less, and I did notice that about the day-for-night shots, but I didn't know they had added deleted scenes to the VHS releases. That ticks me off! I have never seen those, so I didn't know. I had gotten by for years with my recordings from the original airings.

Yes, I always thought it would have made more sense to name the Barnabas film Night of Dark Shadows and the Quentin film House of Dark Shadows. Oh well. I have Night recorded off of TCM or AMC, but missed the airing of House, and it seems like it's been a long time since they've shown them. I wish Depp and Burton would at least make two movies, one on Barnabas and a sequel focusing on Quentin as a werewolf (but including Barnabas as a good/reformed vampire). At least, that was one of my dreams before it was announced Depp and Burton were going to do Dark Shadows. In fact, I wanted to do trilogies, one for Barnabas and one for Quentin.

I agree with Scaps about Power Rangers in Space (somewhat, I agree that it's really good but I'm not sure about best).

The new seasons suck because suprise suprise it's being done by Disney, so of course they'll suck look at the rest of their shows.

I always wondered when Disney took over Power Rangers from Fox. I could see this if the upcomin "Aaron Stone" series wouldn't be a hit with pre teen boys.

Couple days ago I was watchin W.D.T: Annette and I noticed some simlarites to shows like That's So Raven and Hannah Montana.


Annette/Hannah Montana: Both leads are from the country side and have trouble fittin in town at the begining of the seasons. Also there's a female competion between the leads and their rivals over an issue/person. Laura Rogan (Annette) and Joannie Palumbo (Hannah Montana) come off alil bit likeable villains

Annette/ So Raven: There's an "annoyin" character that has a crush on the lead, Steady, Rico and Stanely fill these positons. Course Steady Ware (Annette) steers clears of this postion and comes off a tad rude with the girls till ep. 4-5 (I think)

All 3 shows are creative in their own rights. Course if Annette was updated for today's televison it'd probaly follow the lines of That's So Raven or Family Matters

Warner Bros. is planning to bring "Tom and Jerry" to life as CG characters that run around in live-action settings, says Variety.

The studio-based Dan Lin, currently producing the upcoming Sherlock Holmes and executive producer on Terminator Salvation, will adapt the classic Hanna-Barbera property as an origin story that reveals how Tom and Jerry first meet and form their rivalry before getting lost in Chicago and reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home.

Eric Gravning is penning the script.

Warners owns the rights to Hanna-Barbera's slate of popular animated properties and has several of them in development for bigscreen adaptation. Those include Robert Rodriguez's version of The Jetsons and producer Donald De Line's Yogi Bear.

"Tom and Jerry" originated as a series of 114 animated shorts, produced by MGM's toon studio between 1940 and 1960, and won seven Academy Awards. New toons were produced after that, and Warner Bros. released Tom and Jerry: The Movie in 1992 as a feature-length toon.
