Well said, and great advice, too.

Was it in good condition?

I'd pick Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In my opinion it's a better movie then Tarzan. I don't own the 2-disc Collectors Edition of Tarzan but I do have Snow White, so I can't compare the special features. Snow White's cover art is definitely better though!

I guess it depends on the reason for buying it. I used to only buy movies if I actually saw it, loved it, etc. But now I'm trying to expand my horizons, and start collecting some of the films that I've only seen once, but liked anyway.

In this case, while Snow White is still a classic, like Disneykid said, it's being re-released again next year, and if you're getting a movie to add to your collection, the two-disc release of Tarzan is a must-have according to what Escapay told me.

So like I said, I guess it does depend on your intentions. You're still so lucky, by the way. lol

The Tarzan: Collector's Edition is indeed a must-have and quite awesome for a two-disc, especially one from 2000 (when most studios didn't release two-disc DVDs yet!). Compared to later Disney sets (Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Tron, and the Vault Disney Collections, for example) it may not seem like a lot of material. There is a commentary (which I haven't heard in awhile, but it is quite good), but the second disc's features altogether are only about an hour and 40-odd minutes, and only about 35 minutes are traditional "talking heads" featurettes. But it's both very diverse and very well-organized with great material such as the original song demos (something I wish would be included in all Disney DVDs), multi-angle featurettes (which seem to be rarer and rarer on Disney DVDs), and individual featurettes on character design ("Creating [insert name]", which Platinums sure could use instead of just one all-purpose featurette about animation or voice actors.). Also, it's got quite a a lot of great stills and text frames.

Plus, it's got three trailers! THREE!!!!11

Definiteliy would've got Tarzan, simply because I already have Snow White and the Collector's Editions of TENG and A:TLE were both great (unfortunately, I missed the T:CE, but I will have it one day! aka when I have money).

If I were considering the movies by themselves, I still would've got Tarzan as Snow White is a complete dull (and, considering it's the first film they made, it's guaranteed great releases in the near and/or far-off future). The post-TLK films don't have that same promise and I'd take advantage of any good releases they receive.

I can't be postitive about Snow White's because I couldn't very well rip the plastic off and go through to look for disc scratches and inserts, but the amaray case looked to be in alright condition and the coverart was clean.

Tarzan was in great condition. Coverart was spotless, the discs were completely scratch-free, and the insert was even still there. The amaray case was a tad dirty, but I cleaned it. It did have the problem of the little "bubbles" on the plastic that holds the coverart, though (y'know, when the plastic isn't really smooth; it has creases and little bubbles where the plastic bulges out. I hate that!). I think Snow White's case had that too. It wasn't too big of a deal, though. I just switched the case with one of my lesser-watched Treasure sets. All is well.

They were used, both at $24, I believe.

Overall, I'm happy with my decision, and while it appears the general consensus seems to be about evenly divided between the choices, I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one who would've chosen what I did. The DVD was well-worth it, too.

I'll probably be keeping my 2005 disc too, for the easier accessibility (minor stuff, like being able to change audio tracks via the "audio" button instead of having to go all the way back to the menu), and the 5.1 track if I'm ever in the mood for a non-theatrical-version presentation. Video quality between the two seems to be identical, and Aaron's UD review seems to agree with me on that. Anyone's free to correct me on that one, though, since I find it strange that not a single improvement could be made to the transfer in the five year gap between the releases (even if both WERE transferred straight from the computer.) Not that I could find any area in need of improvement; it was just a passing thought.

But anyway, yeah, I'm glad I was able to pick it up while I could. I'm happy with my choice, but I can pretty much guarantee I won't be rebuying Tarzan for a LONG time, not even for Blu-Ray. Two DVDs with flawless audio/video is enough for me.

So anyway, I drove back to MovieStop yesterday, and as I expected, Snow White was long gone. Well, either that, or very well-hidden (I don't think so, though. I looked everywhere and I know ALL the hiding tricks.). Eh, no big deal. I wasn't gonna get it anyway. I just really want to wait for the release next year to compare. Who knows? Maybe Disney actually will just leave every last extra from the 2001 release on there, organize them into EasyFind menus, add Fastplay, and send it to stores. And if they don't, no big deal. As I and many others have already said, more and more used copies will start showing up. I have no doubts that I'll be seeing many more copies in there within the near future. My MovieStop must be located around a bunch of animation fans, since it's like a goldmine of rare, used DVDs in there. They have a bunch of the old Limited Issue discs, the Peter Pan special edition, some rare treasures (but not many), and just a lot of cool out-of-print stuff.

So yeah, not only did I use my coupon, but I got a sweet Tarzan Collector's Edition that's been on my want list for quite a long time. Not a bad weekend.

I would die to find that Tarzan release, but that's only because I already own Snow White. If i didn't i would've had to go with Snow White because like some have said, that DVD is the best I think we are ever going to see of a DVD release. I think Disney packed it with special features to the point I'm left even thinking some of it is useless (but in the good way, not the sill childish game way). It's a Disney historian's wet dream.

Then again, the Tarzan 2-disc is probably the same. Not too long ago I found the Atlantis and Dinosaur 2-disc special editions for $13 each at Best Buy and I freaked out. lukely for me i had a credit card on me. It was a good thing because the next time i went back (a week later) both were gone and I havn't seen them since.

I've gotten too many fakes to really trust ebay again.

speaking of, if anyone knows a good place where i might be able to find Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas I'd be very happy.

Haha, there were actually some of those at my MovieStop. Heehee, I'm lucky.

Can't think of a good place if you don't trust E-bay, though. I'm not much on an online shopper.

Ugh you are SO lucky! I don't even think there is a MovieStop anywhere close to me! Is there a way to find out? Because GameStop used to have a great selection, but over the past year, it's been rare to find anything good there.

Yeah. They're not very well known, though. Apparently there are only 45 stores across the entire country. It's way bigger than a GameStop, though. At least, mine is. It's pretty huge.

Oh, and DisneyFreak5282, I'm not sure how you could find out if one's near you. They don't even have a website. Hmmm, I guess you could browse the phonebook, maybe? I dunno.

I sincerely think that this of all the disney films has been the most elusive for me. Seriously if anyone knows of a good place in the philly area, i'd be very grateful. My inner collector's instinct in kicking in.

Isn't funny how it works that way though, it's allways the one you need that everybody else seems to find so easily, lol
