Well, they probably wont even need wheezy, he wasnt a main character in the last one, not even a main side kick character. he had what, 8 lines?
As for Slink, word has it Lou Romano (who voiced Linguini) has the role. I dont think anyone in the general public has heard his Jim Varney impression, so only time will tell how good he is. he's kind of a no name in voice work because he does more in the art department than anything.

Well...while at first I would agree with you....recasting Doc would be terrible...however I have pondered this too....
For example.....these movies
The Dark Knight: I.e The Joker as performed by Heath Ledger.....Now I imagine there WILL be a sequel to this film....perhaps they will wait a while given Heath Ledger's fate...but they didn't kill (the Joker) off just because Heath who acted as The Joker died.....But the truth is...the world does go on.....and sadly the show must go on...and sadly it will go on without the Joker...I mean I fully believe they will find someone to replace the role of The Joker because thats the thing in showbiz....It's a terrible moment but...The Show Must Go On...
Same thing with Paul/Doc....I mean the show Must go on....even if the actor died after making it or before making it...now perhaps the story will get re-hashed a bit or maybe they will find someone that does a good (and darn good impression of Paul Newman....or even George Carlin as Filmore....) as s'prince suggested...who did the voice over in the Video game(s) of Cars or Cars Maternational....I mean In Kingdom hearts II they had someone else voice Jack Sparrow, Barbossa, Will, and Elizabeth... and they were and still are alive....

The first
Cars Toon premieres tonight on Toon Disney at 6:56 p.m. (all times ET / PT). And then another short debuts tomorrow night on Toon Disney at 6:57 p.m. ET / PT). And then another short debuts on Wednesday at 6:57 p.m. ET / PT on Toon Disney.
Here's an article with
spoilers:
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... isney.aspx
The article mentions:
By the way, these three "Cars Toons" shorts are it ... at least for a while, anyway.
For those of you who don't get Toon Disney, all three of these "Cars Toons" will be shown through the day this coming Saturday, November 1st on the Disney Channel. And then -- starting on Tuesday, December 23rd -- they will be shown on ABC Family as part of that network's annual "25 Days of Christmas" programming event.

BUMP!
I finally saw all three of the Mater shorts on Disney Channel.
While I think they are cute, they kind of annoy me. I know these were made for promotional purposes, but they mess with continuity for the sake of a lame running joke.
I find it cute when Mater tells Lightning as his days as a rescue hero, a matador and a stunt man. Its funny and I think we look deep into Mater as a character. But everything is fine until they include Lightning into the stories, saying "You was there too!".
OK, I am going into uber geek mode here...
In the first movie Mater didn't know who Lightning was. He didn't know anything about the Piston cup, the racing world or even cars from outside Radiator Springs.
I assume that Mater's stories take place when he was young (he still has his hood). So before he places Lightning into the story it makes sense for him to brag about the hero days of his youth.
I know none of these shorts will be part of the canon and are meant to be cute, short and funny. But I feel as if they could have done more with it. First, they could have used any of the other characters as the victim of Mater's stories. Second, there are a lot of characters that could get some quick shorts, like Fillmore, Sarge and Red (I know their voice actors have died, but they can do silent shorts). Finally, since these are made to promote Cars 2 they could try to keep it canon.
Meh, I am rambling. Maybe the rest of the shorts will be better.

I think they're more ambiguous than you make them! Lightning acts as if "eh, I wasn't there" ... so Mater saying "you were there, too!" doesn't really offer proof that he's telling anything more than a tall tale.
I think that they are set up to be ambiguous - if you choose to believe by some strange twist of known reality that the stories are true than you can do that, only it messes with the canon. If you choose to accept the stories as nothing more than tall tales, then they are. I believe it's like Big Fish. The stories aren't as elaborate as they are told, but when they are over and characters from the stories are there they don't prove the story in its entirety but rather offer proof that there's some truth to the story only on a lesser scale.
And that wouldn't mess with the canon at all.

www.animated-news.com says:
PixarPlanet, via BoxOfficeMojo, reports that Pixar’s upcoming sequel Cars 2 will be released on June 24, 2011. Cars 2 follows Mater and McQueen as they find themselves in a new world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe.

I think one of the biggest downfalls with the first film was it's length. It could have easily been 20 to 30 minutes shorter and more than likely a better film.
There was very little story to be told in Cars and it definitely didn't need 2 hours worth of film to tell it in. I think if they make Cars 2 somewhere around 1'30 - 1'40 it will work better. Don't get me wrong... There is nothing wrong with long films... Just as long as there is story to fill the time.

So when does the original CARS premiere on DISNEY? Its premiered on ABC Family now, and I think its time for it to premiere on Disney Channel.

why would you want it to? the Disney channel logo is far more obnoctious than the ABC family one.
the best one to air it on would be NBC though, assuming they aired it in widescreen and in HD. I hate whenever they show movies in their wrong aspect ratio. and disney channel never does it right.
As for the mater shorts, I couldnt care less if it screws with the canon, but they just arent funny. I enjoyed most of the toy story treats (a similair series of shorts as Im sure you guys are aware) and they couldnt care less about real continuity. all that matters are the gags. but they have to be funny, with great comedic timing. I see none of that in these cars shorts. these shorts have yet to make me smirk, as much as I want to.

Regarding the death of voice actors - I could go both ways with it.
In Harry Potter, they recast Dumbledore - but then again that needed to be done to finish the storyline. With Cars - those storylines could be ended with a new script. Because of that, it makes me lean towards retiring their characters out of respect for the original voice actors.
And by the way, I never understood people's dislike for this movie. To me it lives up to the Pixar reputation on every regard, and in my opinion it is well-worthy of a sequel (thought I tend to dislike sequels in general, except for the Pirates series).

The Hawaiian-shirted Lasseter also showed art work and storyboards from the upcoming movie, due to rollout around the world in the summer of 2011.

Here's more on that cars 2 presentation:
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=25795
At this morning's Disney presentation in London's Leicester Square, John Lasseter gave us some fresh new details about the plot of the upcoming Cars 2, due in summer 2011, including the news that a large section of the plot will focus on Larry the Cable Guy's Mater.
The story sees Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), his pit team and new pit boss Mater head around the world for the Race of Champions, to take place in five different countries and involve the champions of different disciplines like Formula One and rally driving. First up is a race in Tokyo, starting at Mount Fuji and heading downtown; then there's a German race through the Black Forest; then "Porto Corsa" in Italy, which is based partly on the Monte Carlo Grand Prix; then a 24-hour race around Paris (so somewhat like Le Mans then) and finally a thrilling climax in London, approaching Buckingham Palace (where the guards appear to be Land Rovers).
But all this racing is not the only focus. Mater, who we know from the series of cartoon shorts Mater's Tall Tales (more on that in our blog in a minute) is prone to exaggeration, gets involved in a "Hitchcockian" case of mistaken identity, saves the life of a British secret agent called Finn McMissile (who looks a heck of a lot like an Aston Martin) and becomes embroiled in a huge spy thriller. Only no-one believes him. That too comes to a head at Buckingham Palace.
Along the way there are towtruck-abroad pictures to be taken at the Oktoberfest in Germany (where Mater wears "Materhosen") and harassing the aforementioned Palace Guards.
Cars 2 is being directed by Ratatouille producer Brad Lewis in his Pixar-directing debut. We're told that all the familiar voices will be returning, but we weren't told who would be voicing Finn McMissile. Still, if the studio aren't in talks with one of the former Bonds, we'd be amazed.
You know, for everyone who complains about DTVs, have you ever read anything more commercial? Travels around the world? Well, that will boost all non-US interest. Competing in different disciplines? Well, that will ensure lots of different merchandise spin-offs won't it? And the tone seems totally different from the "slow down, appreciate what's around you" moral of the original. In fact, like most of the derided DTVs, it seems like a sequel in name only - not thematically. And of course, the sequel seems to focus on one of the supporting characters from the original, rather than the "star". It appears the "master storytellers" may be influenced by the need for profit after all.

Have I heard of anything more commercial? How about a sequel to Toy Story in which all the characters go into a toy store and cruise around with Barbie? You look at that on paper without seeing the final product, you might make some harsh, snap judgements. You see it in context, and it is another thing entirely.
After 10 films, I'd think PIXAR has more than earned our trust.

Actually, the reason they're in the toy store is to 'save' Woody, but this just seems like a travelogue. 'Go to this country and do some racing, then go to another and do the same' and throw in a 'hilarious' subplot in for Mater. But the first one was crap, so I'm not holding my breath or anything. It might be better for Pixar to fall on their ass just once. Makes them realize they're not omnipotent.

Well, the plot is interesting. I'm having some thoughts on the sequel (like what about Fillmore and Doc), but with the folks at Pixar, you'd be surprised what they have in store.

I loved
Cars, the travelogue idea seems like a great set-up for some serious eye-candy and more visual jokes. And is it just me, or does it seem that blue staters don't like
Cars while red staters bag on
Wall*E?
And by the by, I don't think Pixar needs a flop. Flops didn't do Walt Disney any good in either the long or short run, I don't want Pixar to become more conservative with their ambitions - if anything, I want them to be more confident so they can keep pushing the envelope with the medium.

Spoilers!!!!!
Pixar piles on the international intrigue with “Cars 2”
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... ars-2.aspx
I already was excited for this movie, but this article made me even more excited. I know that a lot of people don't like
Cars, and that baffles me, because it's still my second favorite-slash-practically-tied-for-first-place Pixar film (
Wall-e is its competition)...I just love the whole world of it, and as I've said before, I'm so not a car person. The plot sounds amazing. But the article mentions the "CarToons" from Disney Channel...and I don't think that one needs to necessarily have watched those to know what's going on, in terms of not having to know of every adventure Mater went on in those, but does one have to have a sense of knowing kind of what the "CarToons" are all about in order to fully enjoy
Cars 2?

Up:rising with Story Artist Enrico Casarosa!
http://animatedviews.com/2009/up-rising ... -casarosa/
AV: Now, I understand you’ve been working on Cars 2? How is that coming along?
EC: Well as always there’s more I can’t tell you than what I can and I’ve actually moved to a new project in development, of which unfortunately of course I can tell you even less! But yes, Cars 2 is gonna be a lot of fun! There’s a lot of great new characters. And there’s something really interesting about showing the rest of world through the Cars prism.
Everything I saw in art looks amazing! You have these different cities around the globe seen through that very special philosophy of design. It’s an international action movie we are talking about here, so there will be many countries who’ll get to see a “car-ified” version of their nation! That should be really neat.
