Will there be a National Treasure 3 and if not why? If so why are they taking so long to make it....

I want to know what was on page 47

I have this feeling we'll never know. :(

In spite of the poor reviews, I kind of enjoyed the franchise. Both movies are entertaining.

I think the reviews were more mixed than poor. I only saw the first one. It's silly, yeah, but it's a decent popcorn movie.

I have to say, the National Treasure movies are so dumb, but they are mindlessly enjoyable and lovable. So yeah, the poor reviews caused the reason why Disney didn't want to do the third.

I wish that somehow they could just let us know what their plans for the third movie is/was because I'm dying to know what was on page 47 as I'm sure many others are.

Surely poor reviews never stopped Disney from making sequels . . . how else do you explain Mighty Ducks 2 and 3 and those endless "Buddies" films?

Though I don't think Mr. Cage would settle for direct-to-video

I thought it was confirmed that National Treasure 3 is happening? A Yahoo! article that came out in November still listed it. http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-tal ... 23292.html

National Treasure 3? I'm still waiting for a Goonies 2!

Yeah, I do want NT3. I too want to know what's on Page 47.

On a side note for those of you that like treasure hunting movies, apparently the 3rd Robert Langdon movie is in the works and Dan Brown is releasing the 4th book in the series sometime this year.

Perhaps it will happen now that I read that. Hopefully this still means Disney is going ahead with it.

I would watch it! And poor reviews have never stopped Disney when it comes to making a profit. Many of their sequels and horribly bad animal movies are evidence of that;)

I hope we get one, the first two were really fun movies.

Sad to hear that. I agree with him, that the third one could do great and it's a shame Disney doesn't believe in it. I will always hope this franchise will continue, but sadly, if it will, it will probably be a remake, not a third movie.

Bob Iger talked about the possibility of a third National Treasure.
Q: At the 2016 shareholder meeting, I asked you about the possibility of a third movie in the National Treasure franchise. Three years later, I'm still hoping. Should I give up hope?

Bob Iger: I know that Jerry Bruckheimer who produced National Treasure 1 & 2 would like to make a third movie and I know that discussions about that film have gone on probably since 2016 with our studio but I know that they have not greenlit such a film. They've talked about a number of different possibilities both on the creative side and from a timing perspective and I just don't have anything to announce. Though I did speak with Mr. Bruckheimer not long ago about it and I know his passion for that franchise remains pretty strong. We love those first two films too but we're not quite there yet.

It's finally happening!
Bremner's schedule is heating up as he is also writing National Treasure 3 for Disney, among other projects. That project is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who is also the producer behind Bad Boys for Life.

Wow, I didn't believe it could actually happen so many years after the first two films were released.

Collider got Jerry Bruckheimer to open up his book of secrets and give a new update on the National Treasure franchise, which we learned not only includes National Treasure 3, but a Disney+ TV series now in development. During a recent interview with the mega-producer for his new Starz series Hightown, our own Steve Weintraub got the details on the series, which will feature a new, younger cast.

“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

As for director Jon Turtletaub‘s National Treasure 3, which attached Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner back in January, that film is still in the scripting process. According to Bruckheimer, the Disney+ series is actually further along in development.

“The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”
