Aurora.
No question!

Well, she's the best human singer. I think.

You know, almost everyone mentions her. And I never questioned or debated it with myself before or disagreed, or even thought about it. Until the last time I actually sat down to watch the movie. Now, I honestly don't think she's a very good singer- at all. She's marginally better than the singer for Belle in Beauty and the Beast, who is quite terrible. And I wasn't at all impressed with the singer of Jasmine in Aladdin either.

I honestly believe the old female singers are better. Much. Including the singer for Snow White, who wasn't even using her natural singing voice.

Well, I know she's not as great a singer as she used to be (she's really nasally these days) and I'm thinking she was coached extremely by Ashman in how she should deliver the song, but I don't honestly see how anyone could think she's horrible based on the original movie. I think it would be impossible for me to ever agree with that. Which is strange, considering I do agree with you on Paige O'Hara.

Anyway, as far as non-protagonist/central characters, which I was only thinking of in my earlier posts, I'd also put:

Pat Carrol for Ursula
Samuel Wright for Sebastian
Tony Jay for Frollo
Paul Kendel for Clopin
Jerry Orbach for Lumiere
Angela Lansbury for Mrs. Potts

I also like Jonathan Freeman, depending on the song (I really only like his voice as Jafar when he starts to go insane and maniacal near the end--his normal voice isn't quite so impressive).

It would be interesting to know or note where the women were used to singing. Were they stage singers? Opera? Unsigned performers who auditioned for the films? Back-up singers for other artists? Where they'd had most of their previous experience.

Does anyone remember who physically sang for the demented cook in The Little Mermaid? I would call him my favorite male singer because of how funny his voice is and how well he sings in spite of his insane and hilarious performance.

After that- I'd go with whoever sang the Prince Charming role in the original Snow White. He was very good.

I know that Jodi Benson and Paige O'Hara (Ariel and Belle) used to be on Broadway.

Susan Egen (The voice of Megara) was also on Broadway, playing the first Belle in Beauty and the Beast. :P

I saw Susan Egan (Megara) in Cabaret. She played Sally.

I have a studio recording of South Pacific with Paige O'Hara (Belle) as Nellie.

Jodi Benson(Ariel) is on the OBC recording of Crazy for You.

Lea Salonga( Jasmine's singing voice) I saw in Flower Drum Song. She played Mei Li. And she's on the OBC recording of Miss Saigon.
