One of my favorite witches just got baptized...Tabitha Lenox on the final episode of PASSIONS!

Hey carolinakid you didn't E-mail me back yet, but I have a question. I don't watch the show, but weren't Charity and Miguel supposed to be true love, releasing the powers of good when they came together, but then Charity left town and...so what, now they aren't true love anymore?

Actually, in many movies, shows, and books, some people write witches as being born with magic, too. Like a witch family, they give birth to witches or warlocks. Though they do need to learn how to use the magic their born with, and perhaps the same could be said of fairies.

Well, in answer of the question asked by the original poster, my favorite is Maleficent. Excellent design, colors, voice, magical doings, magical object, and magic effects.

But she's a fairy, so if I have to choose a technically real witch, my pick is Ursula. Once again great design, especially her swirly shell jewelry, which is also a great magical object as is her cool-looking cauldron, and what she does, and her magical effects (oh, those green hands!).

Yes, in many modern day books, movies, and tv shows witches can be born with magic. But that is a more modern spin. Just as vampires were never sensitive to light till Nosferatu. Bram Stoker's Dracula, who was more based on the original Slavik vampires (as well as the obvious Vlad The Impaler) could walk in broad daylight without so much as a tan line, let alone burst into flames. But technically, from the time period Sleeping Beauty was written, witches were people who invoked power from nature/gods/goddesses, they weren't born with it. Believe me, I've done my research on the history of witches. Born a witch is not something you really see from centuries ago. Back then it was believed to become a witch, one had to sell their soul to the devil.
And the movie and as well as the fairy tale all say Maleficent is a fairy. Not sure which author I read it from, but how they described the evil fairy, was that she lost her wings when she became evil. Actually, read a few stories like that.

Also, Yzma IMO is a witch. She uses magical potions. In the sequel or maybe it was the series, I think she is said to have been serving the royal family for centuries.

So, where does Alex Russo (Wizards of Waverly Place) fit into the Disney Witches?

She calls herself a wizard, but she can technically be a witch, especially if they do the wizard fight and she gets to keep her powers.

Hmm, my first choice is definitely Winnie . . . er, Winnifred from "Hocus Pocus". Best Halloween movie ever.

Animated-wise, I have to choose Ursula, only because she's just that awesome. I mean, she actually is quite wicked . . . (almost like Maleficent, but we've already agreed that she is . . . unfortunately . . . a fairy), but slightly better.

We like the big, bad girls. (Kinda like the well-endowed witch sister from "The Black Cauldron" . . . what's her name again?)

Thanks for that! (Darn, and that's one of my favorite Disney films too . . . sigh.)

They were rather necessary for the main plot of the movie, yet all they did was add some rather . . . interesting entertainment.

My favorite witch is The Evil Queen/Hag. After her Ursula definately. Also Jadis the White Witch from Narnia. The Sanderson Sisters as well. Maleficent is alright but I think she's overrated. In the end I love all the Disney Witches.

When I started this thread I was hoping for more Villain/Witch photographs to be posted - so PLEASE let's have more piccies of those great Witchy ladies!

Why do we need to waste bandwith by posting them? You could easily Google them yourself and look at all the "witchy ladies" you want.

Okay, well, when Disney made the movie, if she had been a witch, they could have made her a witch born with magic. Disney doesn't always get things...accurate. But anyway...that info about Maleficent being a fairy who lost her wings when she became evil...please, please explain more, where you heard that, and was it specifically for the Disney film?!

Many other illustrations and film versions of Sleeping Beauty give the fairy wings. She was also originally just a fairy who was slighted, and she was really old. Not full-on evil like the Disney version. I guess her age plays a part in that you should respect your elders (she didn't get invited), and they also tend to not listen to people beneath them, and not listen to reason, and not understand (she didn't know why she didn't get invited), and over-react.

Does anyone know what new tie in books there will be on Sleeping Beauty?
I am hoping for a beautiful Art of Sleeping Beauty with Eyvind Earle's masterpieces reproduced beautifully plus Mark Davis' Maleficent sketches etc!

Oh, Siren I found this Youtube video of Disney's Education For Death, a cartoon to urge America against the Nazi's, and they have a short segment about The Sleeping Beauty. In the segment, they say the princess is under the spell of a wicked witch, not a fairy. But I bet she's a fairy for the full-length movie. Please, tell me, did they say she really lost her wings when going evil for the Disney version? Interestigly, when the good fairies become human they lose their wings but can still work their wands, and Cinderella's fairy godmother doesn't have wings, but works a wand.

Deco King, only two or three tie-in books seem to be made for this release. I will give you some links, some have pictures.

The first is this Limited Collector's Edition Read-Aloud Storybook with a pull-out poster. Notice how it has art from the cover of the 50th Anniversary DVD and Blu-ray. But be warned, it probably will only re-use illustrations from previous Sleeping Beauty books. I've seen them re-issue Read-Aloud storybooks with the same illustrations, just different covers. I would look for a copy in the store to look at in person before I buy it. Also, I wouldn't buy it from Amazon because curiously it says it came out a long time ago, when it's just coming out now for the Platinum Edition, leading me to believe it's the same old book with a new cover and poster, anyway. The next is Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Storybook and Charm. It's supposed to come out September 1st, but I saw it in stores already. It has a new cover with Aurora in pink with a cape and lots of jewels on her, some new look they're giving her to make it more exciting, and it comes with a pink rose charm necklace and a sheet of stickers. The illustrations it has I have seen before in many books, including the first Read-Aloud Storybook. Here's the link:

HERE'S something you would like, but it's only available in the United Kingdom. It is a Gift Set with the DVD and a book. Now, we don't know what's in the book, but we can guess from past gift sets that it has sketches and art...that will probably also be seen on the DVD and Blu-ray. There might not even be any text.
