Lol @ Demi & Beaker...awww!!!

I so can't wait for the next one! I loooooved the first one (especially the part with Miley singing G.N.O. [One of my favorite Miley songs btw] with the Electric Mayhem) and this one looks even better! It has Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, and I think they're both great. Not to mention it looks like it'll have more Muppets (like Fozzie, Beaker, and SCOOTER! MOTHER-FRIGGING SCOOTER!)

Sorry for bumping a very old thread, but I just saw the two Studio DC specials and wanted to bring my two cents into it.

While cute the specials fails in so many ways. Here's why...

The Muppets have always been about the weird, creative, surreal, wacky and hilarious interactions with humans. The Muppet Show became a staple thanks to its great guests and the many things they did with them. But the key here is that these stars would enter the Muppet world and it would be about THEM getting used to the world, not the other way around. Yes, while the Muppets would celebrate the actors/actress singer through homage skits and song and dance numbers it was more about the situations these major stars would get into thanks to the wackiness of the Muppets, not how these Muppets glorify and molded their acts in order to fit the star.

In other words, when humans entered the Muppet world its all about them interacting with them and enjoying the hijinks that ensued. Even when the Muppets stepped into OUR world we found myself making sense of their existence. One great example of this is the scene in "The Muppet Movie" with Kermit, Miss Piggy and Steve Martin. The whole scene was a subtle jab at the fact that Steve was interacting with puppets and thus needed to accommodate the wine glasses because they didn't have working arms. Its because of moments like this that made watching the Muppet shows and movies a delight. The guest star would sometimes turn into a Muppet, whether because they enjoyed it or because of circumstance.

Studio DC doesn't have this magic. Yes, there are major stars interacting with the Muppets, but its all cold, lifeless and tame. Worst of all, its like the Muppets are molding themselves to fit the stars, not the other way around. They GLORIFY these stars with little to no comedic effect.

For example, in these specials Miss Piggy tries hard to either be a Cheetah Girl or a Jonas Brother. Miss Piggy would NEVER try to be part of a band. She is too big of a star in her mind to try and fit in with others. The REAL Miss Piggy would have sent those lame acts packing with her talent and charisma, even if it meant destroying the whole scene (something that happened in "Muppets Tonight" with Michelle Pfeifer). I see her trying to be a Cheetah Girl and it kills me because its her glorifying their act, not trying to surpass it.

Not to mention that the interaction between them is lifeless. Yes, we ALL know that the Muppets are really puppets and the interaction might seem awkward. But the reason why we love them, as well as the guest stars, is because they put so much heart into the performance. These tween stars are too young to understand that and rather than seeing Gonzo, Kermit, Fozzy etc. they see puppets, and thus their moments seem awkward, off and lacking heart.

So this is why I think Studio DC is not the grand Muppet special it should have been. The whole thing is a scheme to further glorify these tween stars that is making Disney so much money and a POOR way of using the Muppets license.

If they truly want their tween audience to enjoy the Muppets with use of their own stars, first cut the whole "glorifying" act. It doesn't matter if the Jonas Bros. are making little girls scream like crazy, its all about the Muppets. The Muppets have interacted with legendary, amazing and even wonderful performers and they never let them over stage them.

Second, teach these kids to forget that they are acting with puppets and treat them as real, living, breathing characters and play along with the along. Don't just stare and talk meekly or follow a script!

Finally...ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUPPETS! Miss Piggy should never be a Jonas Brother, she should be an act that destroys them. The Muppets should be mocking High School Musical, not paying homage to it and finally, they own the place. The actors follow them, not the other way around.

I agree. I mean, I'm a huge Disney Channel fan, so I enjoy seeing the DC stars and the Muppets interact, but the Muppets are better than this. For some reason, Disney just can't figure out a great way to utilize the Muppets.

This friday, Radio Disney is announcing that they’ll be debuting the Christmas duet "I Believe" by Tiffany Thornton and Kermit the Frog. However, the real broadcast premiere will take place during Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday where Tiffany and Kermit will be performing the song live.

I disagree. They've found LOTS of great ways to utilize the Muppets. Take a look at the new original videos that they continue to put up on Disney.com, the viral videos that they've made for YouTube, lots of great new merchandise, increased exposure in the theme parks, the Muppet Show season DVD box sets, their appearances at the D23 Expo (take note of all the awesome things they have planned for the Muppets that were announced there) and the fact they're playing key roles in the new "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" ad campaign, among other things.
