Well looks like my pessimism was toatally unfounded. Looney Toons continue in 2009 with no duplication of previous shorts. Just a rebranding excercise.

The well placed industry source referred to in the article is Jerry Beck.

So not bad news at all. I am still bummed about no Tazmanian Devil cartoons.

If only Disney would follow Warner's example and do the same with the Treasures set (rebranding, but continuing to release vintage content in high-quality sets). Of course, I'd have preferred if Disney had first followed Warner's example of keeping vintage sets in print instead of producing a limited number of Treasures a year...

So Vol6 has a War disc and a bosko disc, not to mention a further 15 unanounced shorts as bonus.

Warner finally delivers the goods at last.

In my opinion they have delivered from the start. If you look at one to six at a set they have delivered from the start. It is a good mix across the board of characters and directors. Yeah, Taz and Foghorn are totally underrepresented but you have examples of just about everything.

I could care less about the rebranding as long as I get my 60-75 remastered shorts a year.

[irritated]COOL CAT![/irritated]

Does anyone know if this set contains an Inki and Minah Bird short? I don't care about Inki (Very un-PC) but I'd love to see the Minah Bird (It's shocking I have to rely on Tweety's High-Flying Adventure for my Minah Bird fix (and my Col. Rimfire fix, alas, no Cool Cat).

It's harder to sell a later volume than an earlier volume, because those who may be tempted to "jump in" feel as though they are missing something if they start on Vol 3, Vol 5 or vol whatever.

Considering the "fuss" that was made when Vol 1 was released with out the "classic" shorts many felt should have been on, how will Warners deal with the PR about another Vol 1 having even less of the memorable and recognisable shorts on?

And no Marvin the Martian cartoons. The only ones they released were on the first volume five years ago: Haredevil Hare and the classic, Duck Dodgers.

2/5 is better than zero out of five.

Well, there was one Taz cartoon that was featured on the first volume: "Devil May Hare".

Has anyone else got this release? Am I the only one a little disappointed by the discs? I know, some people will shout at me - this release has more shorts and its the shorts that are important etc, but I'm still a little underwhelmed by the supplements.

Firstly, I may be wrong, but we seem to have less commentaries than on other releases, even though there's more shorts. And most of these shorts are more suited to commentaries than some of the others. Wartime shorts. Black and White shorts. Highly regarded "one off" shorts.

Secondly, there's no "Behind the Tunes" featurettes. Again, there's lots of scope for short, informative documentaries here. The War Time shorts disc is practically screaming out for a featurette on the studio during the war. Like Disney, were Warner Bros basically taken over by the army? Did any of the animators or directors get drafted? What was the response to some of the propaganda shorts the studio released? Instead we get nothing, and it seems like an opportunity wasted.

The same could be said about the Black and White disc with Buddy and Bosko shorts along with other early days cartoons. Why no featurette on these overlooked but important characters? Or how about a look at the process of changing from black and white to colour? I'm sure something could have been discussed relevant to the contents of the disc.

Finally, the Friz Freleng at MGM shorts were disappointing. Some are available on the Warner Bros Marx Bros set (so hardly as rare as stated) and again, there was no context to the shorts. Why not have a featurette on MGM? Why not actually tell us who The Captain and the Kids were (they're based on a newspaper strip of the time)? Could we not have heard about other Warner animators/directors work at MGM – such as Tex Avery?

I know this set contains some stand out cartoons – I'm happy just for the reason we finally get a Sniffles cartoon (but alas, still no Cool Cat), but I'm a little disappointed by the package that was put together. It's almost as if, knowing sales decline as a series progresses, Warner Bros haven't put their usual effort into the set.

Well, last time I checked, I believe they did have bonuses on the war and Bosko and Buddy on the third volume of Looney Tunes Gold, which came out in 2005. It's called "Looney Tunes Go To War!", located on the fourth disc. And the bonus on Bosko and Buddy is on disc two of the same volume and is called "Bosko, Buddy and the Best of Black and White".

So they in fact have released bonuses on them already. Now, while I myself don't have the sixth volume (only the first), the thing about it that disappointed me were that A) The first disc was not pro-Bugs Bunny like usual (of course, the fifth volume was not about just Bugs, but also Daffy Duck), and B) no bridging sequences or recording sessions with Mel Blanc on "The Bugs Bunny Show", which were found on all other DVDs.
