Does anyone have a widescreen release of Off Beat? I seem to remember reading that some disc out there had a 2.35:1 transfer of the film....I don't even know if that is the real ratio, but I just have this in my head that it is out there........I saw the disc on amazon.uk.co, and assumed that must be it......huh.....are there any special features on the disc?

No, just the movie in fullscreen.

I noticed that somebody said earlier in this thread that there was a widescreen version of Blackbeard's Ghost available somewhere? Listen, I don't care if I have to order it from Antarctis - ANYTHING would be better than the R1 release! So, does anyone have specs on region, good on-line store, etc? Sure would appreciate it.

I'm not sure if the PAL release is the improved picture/ratio, but I do know that it got a television airing in the UK with this amazing picture. I think there is a thread in the archives that has comparison shots, etc. I'm sure you could find your answers there.

No it´s fullscreen.

I don't know if this topic was meant to be limited exclusively to DVD releases, but if you count iTunes releases in the U.S., a number of Disney films that have fullscreen DVD releases are available in widescreen through the download site. Here are the ones I found:

George of the Jungle
High School Musical 2
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Snow Dogs
The Country Bears

Also, any movie in widescreen on iTunes is anamorphic, so if you have an Apple TV in your home and widescreen TV, the iTunes version might be more favorable for films like Hercules and Mighty Joe Young if you aren't concerned about losing bonus features and the 5.1 surround audio.

Is it widescreen on PAL? I don't think so. That might actually be the first widescreen release of the film! Nice finds

Now how do I get transfers of those on DVD so I can watch them on my TV and not my computer......lol.

You pretty much can't.

Which is why I avoid iTunes video at all costs... unless someone comes out with a decrypter or converter (TuneByte doesn't count!), they're useless to me.

I'm sure I can find a widescreen version somewhere... unless it's like Pokémon: The First Movie and even then the Japanese "raw" version was widescreen... You might have to settle for foreign language credits in that case

DVD.co.uk (where I get my R2s from) is saying it's 4:3... was it open matte or pan-and-scan? I find it odd that movies like that would be pan-and-scan when European DVDs are almost widescreen in that case...

As far as I know, there is no way to break the drm protection on the movies purchased through iTunes so that you could burn them to a DVD. It would be nice if they would let you do it through the application, seeing as you can burn music you purchased through iTunes onto a CD, it is only fair that you should be able to burn movies and TV shows the same way.

You could use a DVD recorder combined with Apple TV... anyone here willing to try that if I send some videos along with my iTunes account info?

So I just got in the PAL DVD of "The Moon-Spinners". It looks fantastic! However, after vriefly inspecting the box it looks like it runs for appx. 114 minutes, while the NTSC version runs for appx. 119 minutes. I popped in both DVDs and sure enough the PAL DVD runs for 1 hour and 54 minutes, while the NTSC DVD runs for 1 hour and 58 minutes. Does anyone know if this film was edited in the UK? Why the separate run times?

I suppose the thing I'm most frustrated with is that here I finally have a beautiful widescreen print of this film and now it might be edited! Any help clearing up this mess would be greatly appreciated:)

Yeah that's why I mentioned that stuff via email about slowing it down.

Luckily Disney speeds its stuff up... with some TV shows, and some cheaper studios, it's just improperly telecined to 25fps (like that awesome-looking Song of the South on BBC) that's basically impossible to fix... speedup is irritating but at least fixable.

With Homeward Bound, it was released widescreen on a laserdisc (I think I posted a link above)... Was that open-matte though? Or are all the DVDs pan-and-scan?

A Goofy Movie was released widescreen in (at least) R2. Sadly, it isn't anamorphic.
